I finally hit the 30# mark! I was sleeved on 2/14. Lost 25 in February and only 5 this month! Ugh! Don't know what's going on but at least I will never see that 30 again! Only 100 more to go!

Yes it's me, lol! After I got sleeved, I wanted to do something drastic on the outside too - Goodbye foot and a half of hair! Have never had it this short before. And I got it dyed too.

I was sleeved 2/20 I'm down 18lbs they weight is coming off slow but that's OK cause I'm melting in inches I dropped 2 dress sizes 18-14. I started working out also could be why weight loss is slow I'm replacing fat with muscle. I already gave a bag of clothes away I will never see size 18 again!

Had my two week follow up today!!! I'm down 12 lbs since surgery and down 26lbs total! I'm a low BMI'er, so I'm ecstatic about my loss.
I've been given the green light for soft foods, and words cannot express how thankful I am!!! I was sooooo over he liquids only.

My bad. It's blackened tilapia and it looks delicious. We also got the salmon, in a different flavor.
So:
Breakfast: 1 egg scrambled with a pinch of shredded fiesta cheese
Lunch: 1 reduced fat Colby Jack cheesestick, 2 tbsp SF pudding
Snack: Protein shake (skim milk + unjury vanilla = not very excited Firelle)
Supper: Up to 3oz tilapia, ?
Late night snack: Giant bowl of cookie dough ice cream (just kidding)
I'm still loving how NOT hungry I am!!!!!!
I saw in the Kraft Food&Family magazine that there are new flavors of string cheese sticks: pizza, Tomato Basil, BBQ, and Cracked Black Pepper. Anyone tried these yet? I want to pick up the pizza and Tomato Basil!

I picked up some Jim Beam Blackened Salmon from the frozen fish section at Walmart that I'm excited to try.
Breakfast today was one egg scrambled with a bit of cheese. Delicious, took me nearly half an hour to eat it, and I'm stuffed. Love this!

I was able to have thinned Cream of Wheat from day 3 on. I make it with Water, but add extra milk to it to make it runny. This was on my list of allowed Full Liquids. It's a better choice than having your blood sugar bottom out!

I think I'm losing all my weight in my ass, because it sure hurts after sitting on the couch for awhile. What the heck! Maybe I pulled a muscle.

firelle reacted to Webchickadee in Does everyone have their Ghrelin hormone removed?
Nothing wrong with your question dear. Nor with the answer moregoodtimes gave...........moving right along......
Grehlin is a peptide hormone, as you mentioned. So it circulates throughout the body (just like insulin - also a hormone). So Grehlin itself cannot be removed.
There is however an area of the stomach in the Greater Curvature (the fundus) where the P/D1 cells produce Grehlin. As this part of the stomach is removed in the vertical sleeve gastrectomy (VSG) procedure, there is a significant reduction in Grehlin production in the body (though it is still also produced in the epsilon cells of the pancreas). The less Grehlin in your system, the less hunger you feel.
The pharmacological mechanism is complex and I won't go into detail. However, it is important to note that Grehlin works in partnership with another hormone (Leptin) that induces satiation (a feeling of fullness and hunger satisfaction). Before you eat, increased Grehlin levels make you hungry and after you eat, increased Leptin levels let you know you're full (in addition to stomach stretch receptors).
In this equation, if you reduce the amount of Grehlin, but leave the amount of Leptin constant, your body will feel full faster (biochemically), in addition to the mechanical signal of fullness from the smaller stomach.
There is however no longer a stretch receptor area in the stomach (also removed in VSG procedure), and it takes time for the brain to register signals from stomach to tell it to stop eating. That is why VSG patients (especially in the beginning of solid food phase) can easily overeat. 1-2 additional bites past capacity happen frequently unless the patient is weighing their portions. The brain can't keep up with the mouth!
It is also important to note that Grehlin has other much more important and useful functions for the body! The ability to learn and adapt to change are influenced by Grehlin availability. It also has a role in glucose metabolism and cell transcription/migration. Some other studies point to Grehlin's role in protecting against stress-induced depression and sleep duration and quality.
So you don't want Grehlin removed completely!
Of course no amount of physical change to this complex interwoven system can fight the evils of head-hunger! That is a learned response that we must each battle through in the beginning and good routines, will-power and in many cases supportive psychotherapy are key to ongoing success!

So here I am eating 2oz of a two-day old prepared plain Cream of Wheat packet (because that's how long it's taking to eat one packet) and 4oz of skim milk, while my husband brought himself home some supper and is currently eating what seems like the entire freaking Taco Bell menu. I made him go into the computer room to eat, but I can HEAR the crunching and SMELL the taco meat. I so want to crunch on something right now.
On the TMI plus side, I finally went #2 today, the 4th day after surgery. It took an HOUR and I lost 1.2lbs. Afterwards, I was literally weak and shaky and felt like childbirth would have been easier. If I ever have a surgical procedure again, I will invest in a truckload of stool softener.

My surgery went great today! Surgeon said it was a terrific surgery lol. I don't even remember being given the anesthesia or anything. One moment, the anesthetist and his assistants were in the room asking if I was ready, and the next moment I was in recovery. Recovery sucked because of the pain, I couldn't sleep. But all was well once I got back to my room. Walked the halls 3 times, finally peed, doing good!

4oz Protein Shake
2oz cream of chicken Soup

Haven't felt hungry yet. My husband is eating buffalo chicken bites and it smells good, and I'd love to have some, but it's not making me actually hungry at all!
