Not fat enough? This is for Low BMI'ers

Its not just those who have a lower bmi who gets this. My bmi is 46. Today someone I barely know came.into my office to say he heard I was having surgery Friday. He said that was ridiculous and all I needed was more willpower. I told him i must have been born without any and where can I buy some? Then I asked him to leave as I was busy.

    Insurance Question

I had this happen also. It was because although my primary surgeon gave a recommendation she didn't do a medical clearance. You would think they would kind of go together. I got the same letter from my insurance cigna. I called them and so did the surgeons office to clarify what was missing. Went back to my primary where they did blood tests. Chest Xray and ekg and did a medical clearance. my surgeons office resubmitted and i had approval in Four days.

    Gas x strips

Look in the antacid aisle. Since they are strips that dissolve in the mouth, they can be used in the hospital. I paid about 3.50 for a box.

Detox drink for pre op diet?

Its the sugar and starches that shrinks the liver. One drink wont make a difference. Just stay away from anything that has sugar or starch. Most cheeses are ok.

SURGERY MARCH 19...SLIM FAST 321 DIET

I like them too, but was told they have to many carbs. So i use the atkins shakes, which are even better.

    March sleevers anyone?

Hello everyone! I recieved approval from Cigna Friday and my surgery date is March 8th. Even though not required, i am starting a presurgery diet tomorrow (just to reduce any risks). I am very excited!

Reached goal weight in 6 months less a day!

Thanks for the tips. I am always amazed when i read a post where some one has chosen surgery (not an easy option) and then eats things that are not helpful, and can actually harm. Why do that? I will never understand!
  11. I finally received approval from Cigna today. Surgery is two weeks from today. I am wondering what are the must do things to prepare for surgery and the few days after?
  12. Becuase my Primary Dr didnt specifically stae i was cleared medically for the surgery (only that she recommended it due to my medical history) the insurance denied. Now that i have the medical clearance, they are doing a peer review tomorrow. Both sides tell me that I should be approved. My question: if you have been through this, how long did the approval come after the peer review? I am on a timeline, due to my work schedule. If we cant do it by the first week of march, i will have to wait to the end of april.

Dear husband & his thoughtful gift

Wish i could say the same! I am about two weeks pre op and my husband bought me a teeny little box of three chocolates-which i was very happy with. Then he pulled out the largest box oi have ever seen. When i hold it in front of me you cant see me! What was he thinking? I want to throw it away!

    Why can't we donate blood?

Slimdingdani is right. The bypass usually means patients are having to watch thier iron levels very closely. I dont believe that is the care with the sleeve.

    Why can't we donate blood?

It may be that we cant donate just before and for a while after surgery. Make sense since if there are complication we wouldnt want our blood volume to be lower. I have never know it to be said that you cant forever. I do not know why that would be.

An honest question. Why are we here?

Love this. I work two fulltime jobs. Its not so much how i eat, but what and when i eat. There is no time for exercise or cooking. So many people tell me why dont you just diet. If I could, and keep it off, i would have done it years ago.
  18. Hello everyone. I have been looking at several posts. I've noticed several people mentioning having tests such as GI and chest xrays. Is this standard or only if there are underlying conditions? Other than being obese, and arthritis, I am healthy (not even high cholesterol). My primary doc never mentioned these tests (although i did have the standard blood tests). I am having my surgery with Nortons weight management center here in Louisville. As part of their program, there is a $300 fee (non insurance billable). This fee covers all mental health evals, nutritionalist counseling, surgeon consults, support groups, and of course, they do all our insurance submissions. This fee also covers a lifetime of follow up care. My insurance pays for all but 1600 of the actual surgery. Monday I go for a two hour appt with the mental health pro and nutritionalist. Afterwards I meet with the nurse navigator to ensure all my paperwork is in order. Then i will be scheduled a surgeon consult, and at that time my surgery will be scheduled and my papers submitted to insurance. I am hoping to get schedule for the end of feb (i work two fulltime jobs and that is the best time for me to be off). Both my jobs are easy (yes I am blessed). One i am actually ok to sleep at. Has anyone gone back to work within a week? I have vacation time, but my schdule can be hectic the longer I am gone. So really the two quesitons I have right now are about the pre surgery testing, and the time off from work. Any help?

    Pre Surgery tests

I have a desk job during the day and four nights a week i stay with a lady. I dont have to do any care for her, its just a safety measure since she is 94. I can alswys do partial days if it gets too much.

    OMG......Approved and Nervous

Im from Louisville! Congrat on your acceptance! Would love to hear how it goes. Do you have a surgery date? I have CIGNA, and have been told they approve quickly (at least through the plan my company has). I can wait for my papers to be submitted!

    Hair loss concern......

By the time hair loss occurs, it is usually to late to prevent it (although you can prevent future hair loss). Hair loss comes about 4 to 5 months after surgery. This is partly because of the shock of the surgery itself. Did you every go through a spell where you noticed more lost hairs than normal? Probably you were ill or very stressed 4 to 5 months previously. Lack of protein also contributes to hair loss. As we all now, this is an issue with WLS. The best thing to prevent hair loss is to keep up the protein-right from surgery, and use some good stress prevention techniques!
