taylokat got a reaction from nursekimberly89 in Super Nurses With Sleeves (Support Group)
I work in the recovery room and we've had a few nurses come in for the surgery. All info is confidential and all the nurses seem to get lots of support when they come back to work. Me, personally, I went to a different hospital because the nurses I work with are surprisingly very judgmental. Nice to the patients face then rolls their eyes behind their back.

Fat free foods tend to have lots of sugar, so I would go with the sugar free version.

I look at things this way. I have spent most of my life taking care of others, children, husband(s), Moms & Dads, co-workers, bosses....... We all can relate. I am finally at a point in my life I am living for myself and my wonderful husband. I refuse any more negativity in my life since I lost my sister to ALS 4 years ago. Life is too precious to waste a second of it letting anyone get me down. The rest of my life is mine.

I am not telling anyone in my family. They would be judgmental, critical, gossipy, backstabbing, and the root reason would be because they are jealous of other peoples success. The old adage "misery loves company" could very well be my bio-family's motto. They don't like anyone in the family to succeed because it highlights their crappy decisions.
Having the surgery is my lifestyle choice to be healthy and positive. Why would I allow their poisonous negativity into my happy space?
I have decided to tell them nothing until they ask, at which time I will say that I've made big eating changes including cutting out the bad stuff and focusing on Portion Control. It's not a lie. It is just omitting some of the facts.
And as others have said...it's nobody's business but my own.

My husband decided he didn't want an audience to his surgery and that also meant my sleeving. It was very easy to pull this off and I agree with your posts above, no one else's business. It works great for us!!!!

There are lots of people with different views on this topic. For me, negativity and nosiness from others was my reason for keeping it private between my husband and two grown kids. No one else, not at work, friends, other relatives, strangers, etc. knows about my surgery. I am a private person and my healthcare is no one else's business, but that is just me.

Mine keeps asking me questions like " is that on your food list?" Or " did you eat all of that?" Or "don't you think you're eating that a bit fast?"!!!! He's driving me nuts!! He's also always asking me who I'm talking to online when I'm reading posts on here. He says I'm always laughing or smiling when Im reading the posts and it can't be that funny. I seriously told him last night that he's welcome to create a profile on here and read the posts and learn about what I'm going through. Until then I'm fine without his input about my food! Jeez! I'm measuring and losing weight and inches and alot of them I might add. I think he's so bored with his online games that he expects me to amuse him when he's done. Sorry, I have my own hobbies now and one of them is reading all the sarcastic responses here

So just to play devil's advocate for a minute, let's say we did take the "easy way out". What's wrong with that? I don't think it's easy getting surgery and making a commitment for life, but let's say it is. Isn't the end game losing weight and keeping it off?
Is someone giving out awards for doing things the hard way? Because if so, they owe me a few hundred I'd like to claim for always having to learn things the hard way.
My ex-husband encouraged me to take pain meds during childbirth. I didn't take them but he was right when he said there are no awards for suffering through childbirth with maximum pain. Either way, you'll still have a baby at the end of it. It's the same here. No awards for losing weight one way or another.
My husband told me to stop looking at this as failure and start looking at is as troubleshooting success. Finally, finally after fricking YEARS of trying, we've found something that seems to work for us. How is that not success?
And I do think the tool helps me, so I agree with the earlier posts that we're better off than people who are trying this without a sleeve. I could never eat this little food without hunger pangs without my sleeve. So yes, we are better off than those who don't have a sleeve.
But that's why we chose it. Because 90% of people who lose weight without a sleeve gain it back. While some people gain back some of the weight after a sleeve, the number is less than 50% of weight regained for less than 50% of those sleeved.
    I'll take those odds.

Many times I order an appetizer and I tell the waiter I want it for my main meal. They've never questioned it. You are right when you say fancier restaurants serve smaller portions but if I order a full regular meal I definitely take it home and if my teenager doesn't scarf it down, I eat it for the next 2 days!

You can keep your big snow! :-) We've been on the mild side for the last two days so our snow and ice is gone. Tomorrow is supposed to be near 60°! In 9 hours we pick up my son at the airport. I'm excited to see him - the last time he saw me I weighed over 200lbs. I'm at 135lbs now! He won't recognize me! :-)

Yep.....I cried in the mall today. I bought size 10 SKINNY jeans. I still have muscular calves but never ever could I have worn them before , let alone in a size 10!! Pre op I would think it would be a rather large miracle to get to a size 10. (Pre op i was in a 22.) And I was able to buy knee high boots to wear with them!! A look that i have always envied on others. Today was a good day.
    Happy Holidays Everyone!

I think you need to use whey isolate Protein. There are many varieties and There are many producers of it on the market. It does make sense to me that there would be a rating of Protein powders. From listening to others on this forum, I use the unjury and Syntrax nectar Proteins. Unjury was also recommended by my program. Unjury seems a bit more expensive. They do advertise that it is medical quality and has no ingredients from China.( a big problem with some supplements). I enjoy the taste, all flavors, and have had no issues since surgery, so I will continue to use it.
I like the Syntrax Nectars Fuzzy Navel. It tastes great and mixes well with Water, so it is the consistency of juice

You haven't blown it! Quite a few vets have regained weight and successfully taken it off again. Look for posts by Georgia, oregondaisy, feedyoureye, and others here. There is no expiration date on the sleeve and it will work for you if you work your program. I am sure some of the vets will chime in and give you specific suggestions. You have taken the biggest step by reaching out for support!

Oh my gosh, the 31st is just right around the corner! I'm sure you've been doing this, but if you are anxious like I was, you can start getting food prepped at home and divided into 2 oz. cups, start packing your hospital bag (don't forget gas-x strips and chapstick), and clean your house meticulously! That's at least what I did because I like a really clean house and not having laundry to do, which was SO NICE to come home from the hospital to a house like that! Good luck on your journey, you will do great! I just got off the treadmill and feel great and it's only been a week! Once those first 3 days are over, you'll be back to feeling normal.

I went back on Post op day 10 and had no issues at work. I made sure I sipped Water all day. I was on full liquids so I had plain Greek yogurt for lunch and threw half if it out when nobody was looking (Nobody at works knows of my surgery). I made sure when I got home I put my feet up and relaxed. I let the family order dinner for the first week because I had no desire or energy to cook for them!
