New year - new mini-challenge: April 1, 2013 - April Fool's Day! Hey, we're no fools - working our sleeves to the best we can and making goals that inspire us. Encouraging and congrating one anothers accomplishments, taking advise (good and bad!) ... it's a very good thing!
    Today's weight in (1/1/13) - 209
    Goal for 4/1/13 - 179
    Total loss -30 pounds.
(Lowest weight since had children was 178 - my daughters, 18 & 19, have never seen me under 200 lbs. This will be a very cool year for me, no doubt! My youngest daughter graduates from HS, it will be nice to enjoy the festivities without feeling ashamed of my appearance like I was last year at my eldest daughter's HS graduation.)
    Good luck everyone!

ChrystyK reacted to *susan* in are there any sleevers here who have had leaks from cheating on their post op diets?
Oh goodness, yes, people do cheat. Does that mean it is okay to do so? Absolutely not. Your doctor doesn't put you on the post-op diet to torture you, it is done for good, solid medical reasons. You just had 3/4 of your stomach removed. It is being held together by a staple line and needs time to heal. Basically, the more solid your food, the harder your stomach has to work to digest it. It doesn't have to work very hard to digest liquids, thus it doesn't put excessive pressure, pulling, etc. on your new staple line and that gives it the time that is needed to heal. That is the reason for the post-op diet and the slow progression to the various stages of eating. If you don't follow your doctors guidelines, you are basically playing Russian Roulette with your life. There is no guarantee you will get a leak, but there is no guarantee you won't either. Leaks can be life-threatening.
I understand how difficult the post-op diet can be, and I am not going to lecture or condemn you for what choices you make with your body. It is your body, you own it and nobody can force you to follow your doctors orders or not. However, my advice is to follow your doctors and nutritionists guidelines to a tee, they are only looking out for your best interest. And like them, I also want to see you succeed and live a long, healthy and happy life.

Girl I completely understand as I am 4 days post op too. Bloated tired, can't drink on New Years, and just ugh. But the truth is even if we wanted our old tummy back , we can't. I feel like that this is only a temporary set back and once we make it through this hurtle, we're gonna laugh. No matter how much preparing you do it's not gonna sink until you do it. Hope you feel better girl and feel free to message me if you need to talk.

WHOA!!! You are 4days post op. Step away from the Protein. You shouldn't even be thinking about protein yet. This early out your focus should be hydration. Once you meet the minimum daily Water intake then add protein.
You can trust, every day will get a bit better, and in a couple weeks this won't even qualify as a bad memory. Keep your chin up. Soon your biggest battle will be staying off the scale.

ChrystyK reacted to lucky8mb1 in Regret even after initial "omg, what have I done?"
I went through this right up to the surgery. Right as I was about to get my Versed before being wheeled into the OR, I said I needed to use the bathroom. I remember staring in the mirror and saying to myself, "What the bleep are you doing to yourself?" I remember asking my husband up to the night before surgery, "Am I making a mistake? Am I jumping the gun? Can I do this on my own? I know how to lose weight." This was all true. I know how to lose weight and I can do a pretty damn good job of it. The question is....do I know how to keep it off? The answer is a resounding NO. I can't. I gain every pound I lose, plus some. I remember in college when I hit my high weight of 185. I was devastated. Lost some weight, then gained it back - all the way to my new high weight of 244. Freaked out about that. Lost weight, gained it all back to 262. Freaked out again. Lost weight, gained it all back up to 298. I saw the pattern and it wasn't pretty. I'm only 34 years old. At this rate, I'd be 400lbs before 40.
I realized that I needed help. Not a magic solution, but a tool to help me. I know how to eat well. I know how to exercise. I just need help with Portion Control and being a bit smarter about my priorities in food selection. The sleeve help keeps me on track for those things.
I think right now we're still in shock about what we did. My husband has said multiple times that he can't believe I did it. Not because he didn't think I would or could - but because it is a major major step. I don't believe I did it either. However, as time goes by and I start to take baby steps into my new post-sleeve life, I realize that it isn't so bad. My old habits were doing me no favors, and I can still live my life - with a few adaptations. Pretty soon, the old way of life will be a distant memory and very much a thing of the past - which means there will be nothing to miss.
You're going to be ok. Once things are more "normal" and less restricted, I think you're going to settle in just fine.

I'm only asking you this because I went to through this as well.
How many times have you tried to lose weight only to loose and then probably gain it back plus some?
I think we are all here bc we couldn't keep the weight off. The biggest thing is hate is that I can't have a coke from McDonald's! I do miss eating big meals but I'm slowly learning that I don't need all that food we used to eat to survive.
My thought process is slowly changing the further I go.

I had my surgery on August 22nd, so I am a little over 4 months post op. This summer at 5'3 my consultation weight in July was 231 lbs and I am now 155 lbs - putting me down 76 pounds! YAY!
I try to post monthly and this time when I was coming up with a picture to post I was just looking at pictures of my boyfriend and I from the summer. I think about how I felt this summer in pictures (insecure and uncomfortable) and how I feel now (confident and energetic) and I'm just very grateful. I've really appreciated his support throughout this process and looking at the pictures just made me feel grateful that I've had such a great support system, not just in him but in my entire family and my friends. I feel like it has helped me immensely. This surgery has just showed me that I really am lucky to have such great people in my life!
I hope everyone had a great holiday! I always enjoy seeing people's pictures, so I will post some below!
Picture 1: Sister's graduation party in July
Picture 2: Friend's wedding in July
    Picture 3: Christmas Eve Party
Picture 4: Christmas Morning! (No way would I have ever let him pick me up like that over the summer lol!)

Wow. That's the first time I've heard that before. I hope you feel better soon. Try really hard not to use your stomach muscles for a few days. sleep on a recliner or w lots of pillows. If you are laying down, to get up have someone help you from behind. The less 'sit up' type of strain you put on your tummy, the better you should feel. And try not to bend to pick things up either. Good luck!

Trying to stay positive and not think to much, as this is an anniversary date of a house fire and lost a beloved Great Dane, several years ago. "That which does not destroy you, defines you."
