I actually started yesterday. I had started the program a couple of years ago and made it all the way to the 20 min run. I ran 20 min once and then couldn't do it the next time. I got so depressed about it that I quit. I'm not doing that again!
I was sleeved on 12/6/12 and my goal is to have my 100 lbs gone in a year and then run a half marathon 6 months after that. That should be the spring or summer time and perfect weather.
Goid luck everyone and I'll keep checking back in.

LisaT678 reacted to abetterme4.2 in Running speed question.
In my experience and in training for 1/2 marathons, I actually went to a trainer and a running coach.
The running coach had me train doing HIIT. (High intensity interval training) jog, run, jog, run. It's no joke. You'll be sweating more than running a steady pace. But, you'll build speed. Before long, you'll be able to run a faster pace, for longer duration. I started at 2 min. Intervals for each then built on that, weekly.
There are several others on these boards who run and have great advice, as well.
    Good luck!

You are so welcome! It helps me from going stir crazy laying on my back.22-23 hours a day! Just got back from the doc and had my right drain tube removed. It was completely painless! In fact, it was like a relief. It feels great not to have it in. Doc said not to use the maxi pads over the incision anymore. The steri strips are still on it and if they begin to peel I'm to replace the peeled part with medical paper tape. He also said my binders were not tight enough. They should be extremely tight but with no pain. I also had to buy a piece of 1" foam from Michaels craft store. Doc said to cut it about 4" wide and long enough to go from right under the breast all the way down to the crotch. Lay it there and then put the binders on. It helps make the tummy flatter and reduces the swelling by adding cushion that the binders can push down on. So day 8 is going great so far! Oh, out of all my meds so today is the first day with no pain help except for Max strength Tylenol but I really don't have any pain just somewhat uncomfortable at times. I will definately be able to go back to work om Jan. 21st!

Oliver's Mom- you're awesome! Keep us posted on how a class goes! I just use an app on my phone.
I did week three, night two last night and felt pretty good about it. I tacked on my extra 90 seconds of run at the end so I run a bit in the cool down cycle and walked past the 32 minute mark to cool down.
There's an electric run planned in San Francisco the end of April. Depending on how this goes, I might try that out if I can get friends to go too.

I finished the first week before coming down with pneumonia. Haven't been able to run in a few weeks. I suspect that I will have to start over. I'm shooting for a 10k sometime this spring with the kids.

Congratulations and welcome to VST! You will find it very helpful and uplifting to be here. I was sleeved Dec. 6, 2012 and I am still a newbie here but I have gained some knowledge and found comfort from the people here. I live in a small town where there is no access to support groups so this is my support. It has been very helpful. Good luck on your journey and remember, don't get discouraged - get busy and enjoy life!

LisaT678 reacted to Johanna1955 in how did your EGD go?
I have always been scared to death to have an EGD or colonoscopy. I decided a month ago to put my big girl panties on and have both. They are not required by my surgeon but I decided I didn't want to go to surgery only to find out I had something wrong. The IV was no big deal. They used a local to numb me first with all 4 sticks and I hardly felt anything. I went into the endo suite on the stretcher, the anesthesiologist said "goodnight" I woke up in recovery. No pain, no discomfort, nothing, zip, nada. So so glad I did it!!!! Doctor said everything looked great and I'll see you in ten years. He also said, "hey I wouldn't have a gastric bypass but the gastric sleeve is a no-brainer"

LisaT678 reacted to TakeCareGirl in Pistachio Cinnamon Chicken Salad
I saw this on the Skinny Taste blog and thought it was worth a try. It was really delicious - though I think the 1.5 cups of Greek yogurt was overkill for 16 ounces of chicken. I might try just a cup next time and that saves some carbs. Made as is in the recipe, MFP calculated the nutrition per serving (for 8 total servings ) at 116 calories, 7 carbs, 4 grams fat, 14 grams protein!
    salad.html?m=1" rel="external nofollow">Pistachio Cinnamon chicken Salad
16 oz cooked shredded boneless, skinless chicken breasts
    1 1/2 cups Fat-Free Greek plain yogurt
    ½ cup pistachios, finely chopped
    1 tsp ground cinnamon
    1 tsp fresh lime juice
4 fresh basil leaves, finely chopped
    1 stalk celery, finely chopped
    1/4 tsp sea salt
    1/4 tsp freshly ground pepper
    2 scallions, finely chopped
Shred cooked chicken breast using a fork; place in a large mixing bowl.
Add remaining ingredients; gently toss to combine. Transfer to serving bowls. Serve chilled or at room temperature. Sprinkle with additional scallions.

LisaT678 reacted to VJSlim in Surgiversary! 120 lbs lost! Pic update...
    Surgiversary! Yay!!
Yup I made it to my one year mark with some pretty remarkable (for me) results!
I started my pre-op diet by mid Dec 2011 and was sleeved on Jan 11, 2012. So Jan 11, 2013 marked my first surgiversary. I have lost a total of 120 lbs WOO HOO!!! (and those lbs are gonna stay away, if I have any say in that matter LOL!)
    Here are the details:
Starting weight Dec 2011 124 kgs or 272 lbs BMI = over 53.
Surgery weight Jan 11, 2012 119 kgs or 261 lbs
    Current weight Jan 12, 2012 69 kgs or 152 lbs BMI = 29.5!
When I started, my BMI was just over 53. Now my BMI is 29.7! I'm so happy that I'm 'technically' no longer 'obese' and that I'm only 'overweight'.
This last year had been so freakingly awesome! When I first started lurking in this forum before seriously considering surgery, I never really appreciated what the others meant when they said it is a rollercoaster ride. I fully appreciate it now; It is totally true! I've had some amazing SVs and NSVs, and I've had some pretty s#itty days fighting head-hunger, fatigue, and most of all, self doubts. But this forum and you wonderful friends have helped me stay on track. I come here whenever I need inspirationand motivation. You guys are the best!
And my surgeon! OMG! I seriously believe that God tailor made a surgeon for me! He is the best person who personifies the word 'tough love'. He is very encouraging, amazingly funny, but will say it as he sees it. I trust him with my life! He and his staff have my eternal gratitude!
I have not had the courage to post any of my pics on the board till today. But I made a promise to myself that I'll do it after my surgiversary. I admit that the pics on VST were a major factor when I decided to have the surgery and they gave me a great confidence boost whenever I felt down. So in my own small way I want to give hope to others here. My family, friends and colleagues say I look smaller - but I just dont see it. In my head, I still see the huge me. So I kinda rely on pics to see the journey I have been through. I'm nowhere near goal - I have 20+ lbs to lose, but now I'm confident in my new body, and dont feel embarassed to stand in front of a camera LOL.

Hey love, just calm down and breath. This fear and second guessing your decision is normal right before surgery. I am one month out, and I had NO problems. I never used my pain pump in the hospital, didn't have gas pains I couldn't handle, and haven't had any problems since. No vomiting, nausea, sliming, BM problems...nothing. Everyone handles surgery differently, and it's not an easy thing, but every day it gets better and easier. Just remember why you chose to have the surgery and keep your focus on the end result, and I'm sure you will do great. Good luck!
