lilricanliz got a reaction from frosty in Finally the next step
There are different things that spark a person's interest in having weight loss surgery. I can honestly say there were different instances that began my journey, but I can't exactly remember which one. What I can remember is finally saying to myself that I I need to do something about this weight I'm carrying around. I was initially interested in the lap band and began that process around 2010. I did everything I was supposed to until a meeting with the psych doc pushed everything back. It wasn't because I was crazy, it had to do with the fact I was on medication for anxiety and she felt I was a risk. I decided after going through all the appointments, that I would lose the weight on my own. I didn't need surgery. Well then life and reality set in when I wasn't losing the weight and things took a turn for the worse. I started having weight related sciatica , arthritis, and I was pre diabetic all at age 23. So in April of 2012 I restarted my journey despite the set backs and in Nov 12 I was ready to take the leap. During this time I had been told about the sleeve instead of the lap band. I wasn't hesitant, but after researching it I decided that this was the surgery for me. In 15 days I will be a sleeved. I am ready for this. I am not nervous. I am excited for this next step, but not overly excited. I judged myself before for wanting to do this, but I have made my peace with it and believe that this is the best thing I could do for myself. What I hope to get out if this surgery is to reinvent my body. I'm starting from scratch and ready to begin the next phase of my journey.

Thanks. It is a blessing and a curse i suppose being able to tolerate those foods so early on. To be honest thought the difference between pre and post sleeve is that I don't "crave" it. I only eat foods like that if they're readily available to me like yesterday. Not only that , I ate so much less than what I would have pre sleeve. It's back to Protein protein and more protein today!!!!

I'm not here to lecture, but just because it can take, doesn't mean it should. You're early out and while I fully encourage a moderate approach to diet in the latter part of the loss phase and in maintenance, be careful not to build up bad habits right now that are hard to shake later. You're so early out that you can eat just about anything and see a drop on the scale, but in a few months it won't be so simple. Lecture aside, you're lucky you could handle that type of food...or perhaps unlucky. Because being able to tolerate the junky stuff means the biggest burden of choosing healthier options lies on your willpower alone. If you're within your daily calorie limits for the day and making mostly good choices you should be fine.
Fibrous veggies and any types of greens or lettuce are notorious for causing issues for a long while post op. Some people never experience this but many do. I still cannot eat iceberg, it causes discomfort and digestive problems every time. I can eat any other greens and any other vegetable I'd like, though. It just took about nine months to get there.
And why do I feel like I'm stalking BTB around the forums today? Seriously, every time I go to post somewhere, he was there first.

You'll feel the restriction when you're on solids. I was able to eat 1/2 of cottage cheese at 2 weeks. And felt like a failure. Had a standard size chef salad today for dinner. I ate... About 1/3. Use to be able to do 2 of these plus a sandwich and a drink.
    Hang in there

So class starts today. I will be there for 4 houts and need something to bring to eat that doesn't need to be cooked/ heated. Any ideas? I was thinking meal bars but have never tried them. Are there any tasty low cal, low sugar ones out there?

I am 5"5' 1/2 and my original goal was 170 but I'm changing it to 160. The reason I choose 160 was I never looked "right" as a skinny chick. I love my curves, having boobs and an ass. I think it would make me unhappier being too skinny than being thick. I love being right in the middle. I am squeezing into a size 18 pre op and post op I'm almost nicely fitting into a size 18/3x/2x with almost 20lbs lost 2 weeks post op. i'll be happy with a size 11 and wearing large shirts. My main goal is to be healthy and out of way for diabetes high blood pressure and all those not so nice co morbidities. Looking good to me is just a nice little perk I'm going to enjoy !!!!

Girl I completely understand as I am 4 days post op too. Bloated tired, can't drink on New Years, and just ugh. But the truth is even if we wanted our old tummy back , we can't. I feel like that this is only a temporary set back and once we make it through this hurtle, we're gonna laugh. No matter how much preparing you do it's not gonna sink until you do it. Hope you feel better girl and feel free to message me if you need to talk.

Same exact experience for me! My parent's took the family out when I was 7-10 days post-op and I didn't want to miss the gathering. I had the broth of my chicken noodle Soup (less than a cup). Wow, was I full or what. Then I smiled and laughed because before the sleeve, I would have ate a bowl of the tortilla soup, dinner entree and drank at least 3 cups of Pepsi. Never felt so good leaving a restaurant

I know exactly what you mean. I am 16 days out and for the first week I was miserable and wanted my old tummy back. It does get easier everyday. Some days are good and some arentnso good. Its like.a.funeral of sorts. In the past when I was sad or emotional I would eat myself silly. Now I cant so I have do deal with those emotions. For the first week and a.half I would laynin bed at.nightnand.just sob. My husband was beside himself worrying about me and I was so full of regret but too embarased to say so. Emotionally I have stabalized and are.feeling.better each day. Still have moments of what did I do???? But they are fewer and fewer as time goes on. Having people notice the weight loss already helps too. Hang in there. Allow yourself to cry when younneed to. Don't be afraid to call ur Dr if ur pain meed aren't helping. Best of luck to u! This is a great site with lots of supportive people so definitely take advantage of that!
