plane tickets
Yes, I always check with the booking agencies, but often certain airlines aren't listed with them or it's a PITA to make changes. I booked directly with Aeroflot on my last international flight and got a ridiculously low fare..

plane tickets
also try through JetBlue directly. I got non stop from boston for a very good price.

Gastric Sleeve with Dr. Louisiana Valenzuela & Dr. Ismael Cabrera
I just spoke with Christy again today and sent my deposit. She's super helpful but not at all overbearing or pushy. Bigepc and peppe, can't wait to read your recap of you experiences.

Horror Story
This is a very sad story indeed. Seriously sounds like malpractice. I disagree with the whole "someone I love had a very bad experience therefore this is a bad surgery to have" mentality. My grandmother died of complications following knee replacement surgery, but I would never advise that people would be better of in wheelchairs rather than getting knee replacement surgery. It just doesn't make any sense.

tmi alert!
Period during your surgery will only hinder your own comfort and convenience. Just let them know when you get there and they'll make sure you have the appropriate "accessories"

Pre-op shakeups
I like chocolate Protein powder mixed with coffee and a quarter cup of milk and some vanilla extract. Also I like to do one scoop chocolate Protein Powder, 1 cup milk, a handful of ice and a teaspoon of instant coffee and blend it. tastes like a yummy frozen coffee drink I also like some powdered ginger mixed with strawberry protein powder and milk.. gives it a nice "zing" The time will FLY by.

I Hate It When People Misuse "literally"!
The incorrect use of "literally", "ironic or better yet ironical" "less vs fewer" "decimate vs obliterate" "irregardless" and the phrases "for all intensive purposes", "nip it in the butt", "tow the line" "reap havoc" makes me fee like:

Pre-op diet - stalled
I'm on a long preop too... not liquids, but high protein 800 calories a day... I lost 25 pounds really fast.. then gained a little back.... then lost a couple of pounds and again for the past several weeks I've been stuck. It's been 7 weeks. I lost 25 pounds in the first two weeks. WOO HOO... in the next 5 weeks I only lost 3.. THREE... I know it's not my fault.. I know it has to break eventually.. I mean how long can a 300 pound body LIVE on 800 calories a day and not lose weight? (apparently longer more than 5 weeks) I guess this isn't helping you any, but know that you're not alone. Also, if you're doing several days of clears you should lose several pounds on that alone.... right?

Denied. Service Not Covered.
Mexico baby... $4500 covers all surgery expenses, ground transportation, two nights in the hospital, and three nights in the hotel. The doctors are super experienced and all is arranged through American companies.

High Bmi
No way is asking a patient to lose 100 pounds for "liver shrinking" purposes.. I won't argue that the liver shrink is important, but the most I've ever heard of is a doctor requiring an 8 week pre-op diet in someone with a very severely fatty liver.... and the liver shrink isn't done with a BMI cut off.

New lifestyle- Vegan!
I'm definitely looking to eat more Dr.fuhrman style in the long run as a lifestyle choice, but for now and I think until several months after surgery, I'm eating a lot of meat. I'm just preop and I'm already getting sick of it.

One YEAR Post Op! It's been forever since on this site....
Congratulations. I'm pre-sleeve and an avid green juicer and am hoping it will be a good fit for the sleeve (I'm actually enjoying a mean green right now!) I'd love to hear more about how juicing fits into your sleeved diet, the composition of your juices, etc. I look forward to your update.

Gym or Zumbe ?
I vote for Zumba at the gym! I find the live classes so much more fun than just doing a tape at home.

confused with Tijuana drs. cabrera garcia; fernando garcia; dr kelly help
I think they're likely both telling the truth. Kelly just started working with MBC. Cecilia is likely just out of the loop.

Really High BMI
As more data comes in on the sleeve, it's replacing RNY even in higher bmi patients since it seems to have the same success rates over the long term as RNY. The good thing about the sleeve in a high BMI patient is that it still leaves the option for the Duadenal switch which is more powerful than the RNY.

Really High BMI
Some doctors will not do it because they don't want to assume the higher risk involved with working on a larger patient and often the surgery is more difficult.

walking..isnt it hard already?
Point and flex your toes ( I mean really get into it so you can feel it in your calf muscles) as often as you can remember to do it. Every time you think of it do it 10 times.... This will help prevent the blood clots, but walking is best and will also help with gas. Also you don't have to walk for an extended period of time.. you just need to do short walks frequently.

Frustrated with people who just don't get it!
He may just not understand that "all the trimmings" is just not the healthiest option for you. My boyfriend is really trying to be supportive.. He'd never bring me chips or sweets to eat.. but he always offers me rice or things that he views as healthy. He just can't wrap his head around the fact that I can live on so little (I'm preop, but sustaining on 800 calories a day)

lunchables. ...
Here's my opinion of lunchables: Way expensive for low-quality food... throw a piece of meat into a zip lock bag with a cheese stick and save a bunch of money.

Going to Mexico alone
also remember to check some smaller budget airlines individually. I wound up getting the best price and flight by booking directly through Jet Blue.

Wonder Slim Products
The one that tickled my fancy contain: protein powder, oats, PB2, milk.. you mix it all up and then roll it into balls and freeze.... I'm not currently eating any grains so I haven't tried yet.. but when I get to that stage post-op I'm going to start experimenting.. If you google around online there are a lot of suggestions!

Wonder Slim Products
I looked into it and decided against it.. I've looked into some yummy ways to make protein bars using protein powder instead. my concern is that the bars and products just seem too much like the foods that got me into this trouble in the first place. for me, I can't start a healthy new lifestyle when I feel like I'm eating candy bars every day for nutrition... so I'll make protein bars at home so I can control the ingredients and sweetness.
