Susan, you have just as many people who have been here for some time who are leaving because they find the hugs and rosy support to be dangerous and frustrating. As a forum, I guess you have to chose who you want to be here for, or let the forum do so naturally. On another site I participate in there is a common complaint that they just can't take this site for long because it's so frustrating.
I am all for supporting people are needing to TALK about their issues, but I will be one of those people who is hated I guess because I am not going to be quiet and let another reader think it's not a big deal to eat popcorn week two. People should be afraid to post that they broke their doctors rules. They should be so danged afraid that they DON'T BREAK THEM! Such is life...you have to decide what demographic you're after I guess.

I reward myself all the time so I don't need to purchase anything. Losing the weight is enough reward. :)

I make my selection then tell them that I most likely will take the remainder home. If they ask I tell them I had weight loss surgery and I really can't eat much. It's amazing that this could sometimes turn into a teachable moment, I've had a few ask me for additional information on the surgery along with my surgeons name.

Some people need the pat on the back others need the kick in the pants. Perhaps everyone posting should add a disclaimer as to what type of response they want. Everyone posting for feedback isn't going to like every answer, that's just the way it is on a public forum.

Common sense and intelligence are two different things. You can still be a rocket scientist and lack common sense. Or you could be Sarah Palin and lack both...

Their body does not need popcorn any more than my body does. That's a nice cop-out but the docs aren't prescribing so little food that you are going to die. No one "needs" a cookie to survive. You do have foods you are allowed which can sustain your life quite well.

I have absolutely no regrets and feel great. Think about your life if you didn't have the surgery, that should give you a reality jolt.

I've only been here for a couple of weeks but I am stunned by the number of posts where people ask if it's ok to ignore their post surgical dietary instructions because they really want to eat something they know they shouldn't.
Is it really worth the chance of having complications to satisfy a craving? Do you want to be cut open again to deal with a leak, infection or some other complication? Are people really lacking that much basic common sense? It honestly boggles my mind to read so many posts like that.

None of us are qualified to make an Internet diagnosis. When in doubt call your surgeon or PCP and provide them with the information you posted. If neither are available they should have someone filling in for them or they will direct you to the nearest ER. This may sound harsh, but many time "medical opinions" from non qualified persons can be a big detriment, be smart and call your surgeon or physician.

Insensitive and judgmental?? Why? Because she expressed her opinion? Those who post their concerns when they know they've mismanaged their recovery should expect honest responses. Those who feel the original posters of such messages were foolish in their choices have an equal right to post their honest thoughts as those who want to post sincere support and words of understanding and empathy. No one opinion is more or less valid than the other. If support for foolish mistakes is what any of you want or need, and you want that with no possibility naysayers can respond, may I suggest you private message the litany of posters on these boards who regularly offer that kind of sympathetic response. There is a time and place for both to coexist peacefully.

Geminidrive got a reaction from Paigers in Call your doctor!
I hope everyone who is released from the hospital is given appropriate discharge instructions, however it seems like some may have disregarded these important instructions. With anything, we need to be informed and take action, when necessary. So with that said, I would like to remind those recent surgical patients that when you leave the hospital, call your doctor if any of the following occurs:
**Signs of infection, including fever and chills
**Redness, swelling, increasing pain, excessive bleeding, or discharge from the incision sites
**Pain that you cannot control with the medicines you have been given
    **Blood in the stool
**Pain, burning, urgency, or frequency of urination, or persistent bleeding in the urine
    **Persistent nausea and/or vomiting
**Pain and/or swelling in your feet, calves, or legs
**Cough, shortness of breath, or chest pain
    **Any other concerning symptoms
In case of an emergency, CALL 911
Be smart! This could save your life or prevent you from having major complications.

I say this in the nicest way possible, get some therapy!
It'll help you! And more importantly your long term success with weight loss.
Hang in there... The weight WILL come off but to keep it off get some mental help. I wish I had done that but now I'm starting all over again.
Btw I admire your husband for his service!

I think you answered your own question. "My doc said its normal but it seems strange to me." Stop stressing, if your doc says its normal, continue to follow his instructions. If after 1-2 months and no weigh loss, consult with him and your nutritionist.

Stop weighing yourself everyday. Daily scale watching is enough to make you crazy. Weigh yourself regularly, maybe every 10-14 days. Weight loss will happen.
