hepktty got a reaction from AdeptDreamer in postponing happiness. ..
I am almost 3weeks out and I can already see a huge difference. I wonder why I waited so long to agree to this. For two years my doc recommended surgery but I was stubborn and wanted to do it on my own. I lost 63 lbs. But then was diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Since my surgery dec27 I have not had one flare up! And I see friends who had bypass having all these issues with food and dumping. I have not experienced one problem with keeping anything down. This has been the best decision of my life. I just shake my head sometimes as to why I didn't do this sooner.

    Hi Gypsy,
Could be a lil bit of both.... i have chosen not to tell anyone. My husband/daughter/boss are the only ppl that know. I sent a pic to my sisters last nite and immediately one of my sisters said youre loosing weight arent you... My response was yes im trying. Truly some ppl are so judgmental and jealous the dont know how to handle change but they also dont know the private pain that the other person suffers being overweight... Best of luck with surgery. I am down 20lbs. I had my surgery Dec 28th

I made the Soup again tonight but due to the spiciness I cut back to a half packet of seasoning and added a can of broth. Much better for me!

    Two slices whole wheat bread
One egg , half cup skim milk, nutmeg, salt and pepper, dijon mustard
Mix bread, beat egg with milk and spices, let soak bread in mixture
Cut half red onion, a whole red apple (skin on) and slices of smoked turkey into bread mixture.
Add sprinkle of reduced fat shredded cheddar on top.
It should be baked in a bread pan coated with spray olive oil.
I could only eat two spoons but it was awesome.
The original recipe calls for ham, so to each his own.

I was tired for the first few weeks. I remember week 3 was the worst for me because that was also the week I went back to work. It got better, but it took a couple of weeks. Your body needs to rest. It will get better!

I love this one! I don't like mayo at all but the sour cream masks the flavor really well.
chicken salad 2 can white chicken meat drained and shredded 3 thinly sliced green onions 1/8 teasp poultry seasoning 2- 1 portion Mayonaise and sour cream start with 2/3 mayo and 1/3 sour cream 3/4 to 1 cup craisins (dried cranberries) 3/4 to 1 cup sliced almonds or pecans or walnuts or pecans dash of garlic powder salt and pepper to taste Mix and refrigerate - great with croissants (but also great by itself) can use apples or grapes instead of the craisins. can even use pineapple chunks.

I'm not shy about admitting I had surgery. In fact when I went to lunch with my fella he ordered something I could have part of and our waitress was totally understanding. In fact when he told her I had surgery she said her mom had the sleeve about a year ago. It was fine. And btw he had my permission to talk about it openly. He's super proud of me so how could I say no? Lol.

I go out to eat a lot.
I've known others that have had the surgery that get bent out of shape if someone brings them Water. They feel they need to make a big fuss over it. I've seen people be rude to the waiters if they are asked didn't you like your meal? It's a question, it's up to the waitstaff to make sure the customer enjoyed their meal, so it's a normal question. I have been asked, I said oh the meal is great, I had a late lunch or late Breakfast. I don't take the question personally, actually I feel that's kind of them to ask, and they are doing their job. Waitstaff are definitely not mind-readers but they also don't need my entire life story or my personal weight history.
The waiters or waitresses bring me Water, I let them. I don't get offended or huffy and tell them to take it away. One of the things I learned the most about myself pre-op and post-op is I AM IN CONTROL, the decision to eat, drink or whatever is up to me, nobody else. If I know I'm going to want to take food home with me, I'll ask for a box with dinner. I don't expect discounts, I don't expect them to give me 1/2 plates. I get what I want to eat and if I don't eat it and don't take it home, it doesn't matter to me. I'm not wealthy, but I learned, just because it's on my plate doesn't mean I need to eat it all. I learned self-control. I learned portion size when I cook myself. I learned just because someone else can eat an entire of plate of food, doesn't mean I can or I have to. I don't need to punish myself by eating everything on the plate, because that's all it is really, punishment by overeating.
Others I have known that have had surgery that have been rude to wait staff since surgery, were the same people I knew that found ways to complain about waitstaff pre-surgery and were always difficult customers lol.

I am 3 wks out today and some days my hunger is worse than others. I still crave things I use to eat, like pizza, but I know I just can't have it. It's different from regular dieting, before I would break down and eat 2-3 slices. I know thats impossible now so I just get over it.

I am five days out. I'm not hungry at all. Do I want to eat? Yes. Just like I wanted to eat before the surgery. But I'm not hungry.

So I had my surgery! I hope all is well with everyone else who had it. And yes I did have some moments where I thought "turn and run" but what kept me going was thinking of my five yr old. I bought here a bike for her bday and the whole time kept thinking "who is gonna help her when the training wheels come off?" That was one of many. I am so glad I did it. Thank you again everyone for the support!

hepktty reacted to PdxMan in Knowing when you're full?
Yeah, what CoCo said. Even when you are on solid foods, though, early out, it can be difficult to understand what the new "full" is. I would take a bite, put my fork down and chew really well. I would evaluate how it made me feel and then take another bite. Seldom did more than 3 bites of anything early out. Even now at almost 18 months out I still do this routine.
Yesterday, I made a turkey with stuffing ... gravy, mashed potatoes, green Beans ... you know the drill. I had about 4 bites of turky (first) then about 4 green Beans, 2 bites of stuffing and 2 bites of potatoes. Gravy slathered across everything. I was one of the last ones to finish eating (guy across from me had 3 platefulls) and I was stuffed. Had ice cream and peanut brittle and a sliver of apple pie about an hour later.
I ate about one fourth of the meal I would have had 2 years ago and didn't attack the refridgerator 4 hours later like I used to do.
It was a great Christmas and no food hangover.
