lmm300missouri got a reaction from Liz5012 in What's your "weight loss pet peeve?"
I'm sorry so many friends and family just don't get it. Would they do that to a person with a special diet due to cancer? I feel the fat is cancer and we are trying to heal from it. If they say you did it to yourself well so did smokers and I don't judge their choices. I have been thin many times but it has always come back and this is for me to heal. I don't expect others to give up their lives for my choice and food issues, but I hope to be strong and show them I made the right decision for me. The closest family members can want us to fail because they have and if we do it too it takes they failure blame off them. I have been up and down weight wise so many times and have been on both sides, I tried to never temp someone to do anything that they would regret eating later. Hang in there you can do it!

From what I have read the extended release medicines pass through the intestines before all of the medicine has been absorbed. There may be other options for you though

Ok I lost during the six months but are waiting for egd then surgery in August. I found a movie of the actual surgery and half watching it made me calmer vs so nervous. I actually have to stay within my bmi or may get disqualified. They don't make any of the requirements easy.

You should be getting in Protein everyday. You won't start getting it from actual "food" sources until week 4
Week 1 was Clear Liquids so I got protein from Isopure Protein Drink
Week 2 was full liquids so I got protein from Protein Shakes and Greek yogurt
Weeks 3 was purées so I got protein from protein shakes and mixed in unflavored Protein Powder into thinks like mashed potatoes.
Week 4 was soft foods so I got protein from things like eggs and soft chicken in addition to the sources noted above.
Week 5 I started regular foods so I got protein from meat and protein smoothies here and there. Protein oatmeal balls, Greek yogurt, protein oatmeal. Gotta get creative!

Worry about today and each day's weight loss, his opinion can change greatly in your favor as you prove him wrong. You can do it, I believe.

I feel it is up to the person if or if not you tell. I feel it is quite honest to say you were having gastric issues and had a procedure to fix it. Then move on or change the subject. I have had stomach issues in the past and when people tried to get me to eat things I didn't want I blamed it on my doctor and my ulcers. This way if the cooked something special for me they do not feel I'm rejecting them or it. I have my surgery in August some people I will tell or have been tod and the rest it will be the above. I wouldn't tell everyone about my period or women's issues so why would I tell everyone about this private body change. Your life. Your decision. Don't feel guilty!

@@lmm300missouri I haven't had surgery yet but when I do i'll have to do it for about two weeks afterwards. I had a pulmonary embolism (blood clot in lung) in 2013 so they need to take extra precaution with me.

Hi, All! I'm 66 and had my sleeve on March 11 of this year. I'm 5'6" and my heaviest weight was a whopping 292! I'm down to 218, and my goal is 150. So I'm about half way there.
It's been great reading these posts! We all have our own journeys, and I admit to occasional carbs and a mini bite of dessert. My excersise is sporadic, but my energy is awesome! I enjoy life so much more and look forward to making a bucket list, then doing everything on it!
My hubby is being sleeved on July 28. So happy that we're both on the same page.
    Best wishes for you all!

I gained at least once in six months but made sure I stayed between my weight levels to qualify as bcbs told me if I went below my 35 with bmi I could loose out. But they also like to see weight loss as it is a sign during your waiting period that you can be successful. I made it and just got approved recently

I've had both responses, some are envy comes across as non support. They are afraid they are loosing their eating out buddy, dessert buddy, and someone as larger or larger than they are. I understand it all as I have been there myself when my friends lost weight. When we talk about our surgery we remind them that we are changing and they are not. I try to think of it this way, I maybe leading them to a better life by example. If they are thinking I'm taking the "easy" way out I remind them this surgery is anything but easy. I have multiple health reason that I hope this helps, plus others I don't want to end up having. I have not had one person say "GREAT". So do what you need for you and hope they become supportive afterwards when you look great, but they might still be jealous then.

Hi, I had my first consult today so all going well I'll have my sleeve done next June (I have a 12 month wait for my health insurance). I have told my Mum & a couple of friends only, one friend is super supportive but I can tell my Mum & my other friend aren't for me having the procedure. I need some advice on what to tell people, particularly my co-workers as id love to not have to tell people and have a cover story for why I'm not eating etc. What are everyone else's thoughts. What have people told others?

The pre-op phase is a tortuous rite of passage, but will get a lot of adjustments out of the way. Then, all you have to worry about post-op is your recovery. Your new good habits will already be in place. I was 62 when I had my sleeve. There are a lot of us old birds on here, so you are in good company. I wish you good luck and good health.

I've replaced one meal a day with a Protein shake, I'm monitoring and pacing my fluids, I don't drink with my meals or for 30 minutes before and after, I'm trying to make better food choices, and I'm trying to work on the physical activity level. What else can I do to make it go better, faster, get better results?
I guess you can tell that I'm kind of excited about this, especially as I'm 67 and haven't been thin in over 20 years!
