  1. I can nod my head yes to both of your questions/observations...I am OCD (seriously) so if I don't weigh myself every day, I obsess about it anyway; I do, however, agree with the advice about not weighing every day but only once a week at the most; if you are able to do that, I would take that advice as for the mood swings and being irritable, I think hormones play a part but aren't the whole story...I think (for what it's worth) that it has more to do with the behavioral and emotional changes taking place...also, if you are like me and are an emotional eater, you have lost your best comforter (food) and no longer have your medicine (food) to take the edge off your anxiety...I think things get better as adjustments in lifestyle are made--at least for me I think it is getting better
  2. the worst is when they try to tell you anything about someone else who had "that surgery"...also, I've gotten sensitive to when anyone (even close friends and family) ask me how much weight I have lost so far
  3. it's not really a justification but lots of people (myself at times even) just lack tact...that doesn't mean the comment was well-intended, just that you cannot assume there was ill intent
  4. wishing you well! I remember those same feelings, but things went better than I expected
  5. ditto what others have said...stay with it...and congratulate yourself for your success so far
  6. prayers from me....sorry for the complications you've had...I am hoping that in 6 months, this is just a bad memory
  7. from what I understand, "dumping" is a lot more than just cramps and diarrhea...there are more physical symptoms than gastro-intestinal ones...things like lightheadedness and racing pulse...I am sure you can look it up on the Internet...still, whatever it is called or the effects, it is not pleasant when you eat something with your sleeve that it doesn't like...I guess that is a good thing and part of the usefulness of the sleeve as a tool
  8. as Arts said, I don't think it is "officially" dumping syndrome, but it is still unpleasant with many of the same symptoms...I get it on occasion when I eat a food that doesn't agree with my sleeve
  9. congrats on your wonderful success!
  10. adriane, you've lost 70 lbs since surgery on May 16?! that's amazing...I was sleeved over a week before you and have only lost 45 lbs....keep up the good work and leanintoit: what do you mean you have ONLY lost 52 lbs since May 2...that is great, too I am proud of my fellow May sleevers
  11. Happy Birthday, Indigo! and thanks for an inspirational post...I will join you at age 52 in January...I pray by then I will have met my goal or be close to goal...enjoy your special day!
  12. I also thank you for sharing...you most definitely are a strong woman
  13. congrats on your success...and thanks for the inspiring post!
  14. you've got some great advice from the previous posters...I cannot add much more except to agree with them...I am almost 4 months post-op and still in a learning curve...like Camella with the ice cream, I have overeaten my sleeve on a few occasions and felt miserable and each time I think "I have learned my lesson now"...you are going to have setbacks (and, yes, even weight loss stalls), but just keep going and feel proud of yourself for the effort and for moving in the right direction...also, even though others will probably disagree, I would not stress much about the liquid and protein intake...I was very concerned because I wasn't reaching the goals set by my NUT, but when I had my follow-up with my surgeon at about 3 months, he wasn't concerned at all and said I was doing fine with both...best wishes on your journey and I recommend hanging out here on the board as you have time--it's a great source of info and encouragement--and when you need to vent!
  15. you look fabulous...congrats on your success
  16. I think a lot of us can relate...I am 4 months out almost and still am experiencing emotional issues and life adjustments
  17. progress pics are fun...good job...keep up the good work
  18. I would tend to agree with laura-ven as far as the food choices...as for the stomach pain, I do get a weird pain in my stomach when I overeat my sleeve...it tends to come on quickly so you have to be mindful...one bite and I'm fine...then with the next bite it seems like I cross the line to overeating...good luck on your journey (of learning)
  19. my vote is to drive the few blocks...assuming of course you have no unusual complications...I truly believe I could have driven a few blocks easily a day or two post-op...of course, I wasn't on pain meds, so I am also making the assumption you will not be on something like that which would impair your ability...best of luck with your surgery!
  20. I agree with MIJourney....you look great...you and I sound like we are experiencing about the same rate of weight loss...my surgery date was May 6
  21. thanks for helping me see the humor in this...the weird thing is that when I first put the pants on this morning (I hadn't worn in quite a while), I was sort of happy that they fit with a little room to spare...little did I know how embarrassing that "wiggle" room would be
  22. I think it differs so much depending on the person's body shape and such...I was about 270 surgery day and now weigh about 223 (only 5'2" tall)...one of my frustrations is that I don't think I have moved down much in clothing size...just one size--from a 22 to a 20--with 45 lbs....at this rate, even when I am at my goal weight I will just be down to a size 16...oh well, if I am healthy, I don't care
  23. I know this isn't going to be a popular answer, but I have been one who believes almost everybody could benefit from counseling...like the previous poster said, try to make lemonade out of lemons in this case...or give the therapists the benefit of the doubt that you may have some underlying issues that need work before you undergo this surgery...I am one who is a therapy veteran--diagnosed with several anxiety disorders and still on meds--plus still struggling with emotional eating even post-WLS...make no doubt about it: this is a difficult emotional journey and most of us need all the help we can get
