    January Newbies ! Progress ?

All I can tell you is that I can't taste it at all. So easy to get in a lot of protein and a fair amount of liquid all at the same time. Just make sure you drink it fairly slowly because your body can only absorb a certain amount of protein within a short time period.

    January Newbies ! Progress ?

I was sleeved January 22. I've had an amazing recovery and have had no problems whatsoever. I currently am able to get in 60 ounces of fluid on a regular basis and between 60 and 90 g of protein daily. I use 2 1/2 scoops of the Unjury unflavored protein powder in 16 ounces of crystal light strawberry lemonade every day. You absolutely cannot taste the protein and it tastes so much better than any of the 20 or so protein shakes I tried but was unsuccessful in getting all the way down. With just those 16 ounces of fluid I'm able to get in 50 g of my protein just with that. I make it in a thermos and usually take about two-three hours to drink my lemonade so my body can slowly absorbed the protein. I also have 2, 17-ounce bottles of water and a couple of cups of decaffeinated coffee every day. I started at 325 and as of today I've lost 36 pounds.
  3. I drink 2, 17 ounce bottles of water, 1, 17 ounce Crystal Light strawberry lemonade with two and a half scoops of unflavored Unjury protein and 2-3 cups of decaffeinated coffee every day. For breakfast I break and extra large egg in a custard cup, break the yoke and put on top of it 1-2 tablespoons of refried beans. 2 tablespoons of ground pork sausage (It is actually venison sausage that I grilled and then ran through my ninja blender) and 1 tablespoon of shredded cheddar cheese on top. I microwave it on medium power for three minutes. Usually takes me about an hour to eat all of it. For lunch I am having 3 tablespoons of tuna fish mixed with 3 tablespoons of cream cheese. It's really yummy. Tomorrow I'm going to do one quarter cup of each and see if I can eat that much. For supper I have been having another egg and a half an avocado. The avocado and the egg yolk are about the only fat I've had in my body in weeks. Luckily for us right now we don't have to worry so much about calories since we can hardly eat anything. I was sleeved January 22 and am getting in 55-65 oz fluids and 65-80 G protein daily.
  4. At two weeks out I am doing great. When I get up in the morning I fix a 16 ounce thermos with Crystal light strawberry lemonade and two scoops of Unjury unflavored protein. Then I fix a separate 16 ounce thermos with my soup of choice mixed with two scoops of Unjury chicken soup flavored protein. I sip on both all day and both are absolutely delicious!!! That gives me 82 g protein and 32 oz liquid. I fill in the liquid with water and decaf coffee to equal about 60 oz.

That is inaccurate information according to a number of sources, not the least of which is the American Association of Pediatrics. They are most certainly nutritionally sound. What I have discovered in my research is that most surgeons who have a financial stake in their client using the Bariatric Advantage products, most often will recommend that brand. Unlike the gastric bypass, the gastric sleeve produces no malabsorption so it isn't necessary to take 20 times more Vitamins then you would've taken before you were sleeved. In addition to the fact that the bariatric advantage vitamins taste awful to most people who post on this site, they also contain a much higher quantity of each Vitamin than can be absorbed by the body in one day. A lot of what you're taking in with the bariatric advantage vitamins is being washed away and not absorbed because they're water-soluble. This is an ongoing discussion on dozens of threads over the last two years. It will continue to rage on long after all of us have lost all of our weight. In the end it's just a matter of preference. Do your research. Taste them. Figure out how much you can afford to spend. Then choose, and don't look back.

My surgeon said to take two Flintstones chewable daily. They taste great and they are very inexpensive.
  7. Hello fellow Texans! It is my wish for all of you that your journey is a sweet as mine has been so far! This is day 9 post-op and I think things are going along really well. I was sleeved on Jan. 22 in Dallas by Dr. Nick Nicholson. It helps, of course, that I have grear help at home. My husband could teach Florence Nightingale a few things I will tell you!! Never has there been a more attentive, loving, funny, supportive nurse and cheerleader. He follows me every step when I walk figure 8s around the furniture in each room - whether it is noon, or 2 a.m. Crushes every pill. Gives me every shot of Lovinox in my tummy. Times out every med and vitamin. Counts every ounce of liquid and every gram of protein. This has been an amazing process so far and I swear, I wouldn't trade one minute of any of it. He has built spreadsheets for this process so he can monitor everything I do in 15 minute increments for each 24-hour period - no, I am not kidding. It is awesome. He also did one to keep track of the meds. He has them all set up in a notebook. It makes it so much easier to keep track of the things we were told to do. Yesterday, I managed to get in 58 oz liquid, 75 G protein, two Flintstones chewable vitamins, one blood pressure med, one lovinox shot, one Pepsid and about a mile on the treadmill. Still have just a tiny bit of gas pain and am as sore as should be expected with such a major surgery but things are progressing well and I couldn't be happier. Have no idea how much weight I have lost and really do not care one little bit. I am way, way over the power of the scale and it doesn't call my name at all. This isn't about the weight. This is about my life. Finally. I hope things are going well for all of you.
  8. It is my wish for all of you that your journey is a sweet as mine has been so far! This is day 5 and I think things are going along really well. Last night was bad night and about midnight I had bout of buyer's remorse. Seems the gas pains I was sure I was going to miss, decided to make their debut. Had a crying breakdown for about a half hour before my husband was able to sooth my soul with quiet singing, slow rocking and lots of prayer. He could teach florence Nightingale a few things I will tell you!! Never has there been a more attentive, loving, funny, supportive nurse and cheerleader. He follows me every step when I walk figure 8s around the furniture in each room - whether it is noon, or 2 a.m. Crushes every pill. Gives me every shot of Lovinox in my tummy. He also did one to keep track of the meds. He has them all set up in a notebook. It makes it so much easier to keep track of the things we were told to do. I have always known what an extraordinary person he is, but the light from his heart shines its brightest when he is needed most. It is impossible that I have, or will ever do, anything that makes me worthy of such love and devotion. The gift of him is a perfect testimony to God's unending, unmerited gift of GRACE in my life. There are no words to describe my gratitude. Yesterday, I managed to get in 48 oz liquid, 27.5 G protein, two Flintstones chewable Vitamins, one blood pressure med, one lovinox shot, one Pepsid and a decent nap. Walked 9 times, did that breathing spirometer thing 10 times (10 breaths each) and even fit in a shower. Only took one dose of the liquid pain killer all day. By the time today is over, I will have gotten in about the same amount of Fluid and almost 70g of protein with all the above all over again. Will continue with Clear liquids through Monday and add strained cream Soups on Tuesday. Still have gas pains and am as sore as should be expected with such a major surgery but things are progressing well and I couldn't be happier. Have no idea how much weight I have lost and really do not care one little bit. I am way, way over the power of the scale and it doesn't call my name at all. This isn't about the weight. This is about my life. Finally.
  9. Shannon, all the people I interviewed (26 patients) whose surgery was performed by Dr. Nicholson commented on exactly the same things you're pointing out here. There are many quality surgeons out there whose skill and post-op programs most often produce the kind of terrific results you are currently experiencing. You are fortunate that you chose one of the very best in the nation. Count your blessings, give thanks and move on with no worries. As with all trouble-free patients who work toward continued success, you will experience the kind of weight-loss results you are looking for as long as you continue to follow your doctor's orders to the letter. It's all good dear one.
  10. We have a very small private group set up on my fitness pal for those who fit this criteria. It is our hope that those of us who used the same surgeon, are being sleeved around the same time, and want to use my fitness pal to track their post-operative intake might be able to provide support for each other during our post-op period. If you are interested in being in this group, please private message me.
  11. No. Not if it goes against the instructions your doctor gave you.
  12. Try freezing any flavor Isopure like Alpine Punch or Grape in ice-cube trays then using a Ninja blender (that's what works best for me) to make an awesome slush. Put a few cubes in one of the single-serve cups, add a little cold Isopure drink, pulse away and you have a slush as good as anything you can get at Sonic. Never gets watered down because it's ALL Isopure. Add a little Splenda or Truvia to taste if you want, then enjoy - one sip at a time. If you pour it into a Thermos cup, it will last a very long time in the slushy state!
  13. The healing process is completely unique to each patient's metabolic profile and overall body composition. The internal and external healing process consumes a significantly higher number of calories than can be calculated using your formula. While it is tempting to try to fit this process into a standard formula base, it simply will not work. Each persons' body composition is unique and the formula you are using is simply a standard formula for an average body composition. The rate at which one might lose weight after a surgical procedure of this kind is impossible to calculate because the variables are, for the most part, incalculable from patient to patient. Basically, it boils down to not being able to determine how much weight you - or anyone else for that matter - might lose because you simply have no idea how many additional calories your body will burn as it works to try to heal itself over a long period of time. Hope that helps.

Butter bean, I wish I could "like" your post about 20 times.

    January 2013 Sleevers?

I am about 70 miles south of Dallas and scheduled for surgery Jan. 22 in Dallas with Dr. Nick Nicholson. Stocking up on essentials. Playing the out-with-old-in-with-new game. Cleaned out the fridge, freezer and pantry yesterday and I am working on the closets tomorrow! This is the first New Year in a long time that I feel confident that will actually maintain my resolution the entire year! Super excited!!
