    Hey All -
I am excited to be 11 months out of surgery and down 107 pounds and feeling fantastic. I just wanted to post a positive post-op post because I know when I was researching having this procedure, I always wanted to read about good things so thought I'd share the same.
Basically, I've lost 107 pounds, went from a size 22 to a 10, a XXL to a M and my entire life has changed. I eat so clean now, spend most of my weekends hiking or being outdoors (something I was never into before). This has been life changing for me and for my husband, who has also gotten extremely healthy in the process.
My confidence has skyrocketed, my professional life is better, my only regret is that I didn't do this 5 years ago. Hope all my fellow post-op sleepers are doing well and hope this helps inspire anyone who is interested in the procedure.

Men. They build muscle faster. They are naturally leaner. They are not as susceptible to our estrogen fueled emotional fits. They don't have periods and deal with constant monthly re-wiring of their hormones. They don't bare children or have to deal with the body and skin deformations that come with child bearing. And to top it off, they seem to drop weight 10x faster than us.
Ya. It pisses me off too.
It is what is. Sometimes we have to vent about it, but then we have to accept it, push harder, worker harder, and kick a$$ in the end!

    Hi all,
I'm celebrating my two year surgiversary today! In honor of that, I've finally finished my profile, adding pictures of me at goal and writing my surgery story, which I've copied below.
I'm looking forward to another successful year at goal weight!
    Lynda
    My surgery story:
I joined VSG in December 2010 after deciding to pursue WLS in November 2010. I'd been lurking for about a month. I originally thought I wanted a lap band, but after learning more on VST and other sites, I decided to become a sleever.
For those interested in the Kaiser Fremont process: I met with my primary care Dr. in Nov. and he signed me up for the next Overview meeting in Santa Clara. Because of the holidays, that was Jan. 11. After a couple of hiccups (correct weighty wasn't documented and Dr. misunderstood my request for referral), I was referred to Kaiser Fremont Bariatric program and attended Orientation there on Feb 13. I read the book we received in that meeting and began taking the Vitamins and following the 1200 diet immediately. Also, at the end of Orientation, I scheduled by next appt for 3/3. At the 3/3 appt. I met with the nutritionist, who was pleased with my diet, Vitamins, ,and exercise routine, the surgeon, who reviewed by med history and declared me a good candidate for the sleeve, and the program coordinator, who explained the next steps I need to take.
Next steps for me were a chest xray, EKG, tetanus shot and anemia blood test (all other tests are current), and attending at least one F2F support group meeting. After I was within 10 lbs of goal I got an appt with the psych. When I lost 10% of my weight, my surgery was scheduled. It took about another 6 weeks after that before I had the surgery. During those six weeks, I practiced chewing a lot, sipping slowly, and I gave up coffee.
I had a undiagnosed hernia, which was repaired during surgery. Post-op, I developed severe lactose intolerance. At two years out, it's not completely gone, but I can enjoy the occasional ice cream or latte.
I hit onderland on June 22, 2011, a little more than one month post op and goal weight on March 25, 2012, about nine months post-op. I've been maintaining goal within 5 lbs. since then.
My blood pressure dropped enough that I was offf all meds for a few months, but it slowly crept back up and I now take medicine again, although not as much as before. I also no longer take cholesterol medication.
My hair did thin beginning in month 4, but by about 18 months out, it was thick all the way to end again.
I was cleared for coffee at three months, and the occasional drink at 6 months.
For me, WLS surgery has been a life changer. I love life at goal.

Cyn reacted to Fallenangel2904 in 6 months post op -98lbs so far
Today is officially my 6 month surgiversay. I'm down 98lbs (wanted so badly to make it an even 100 but didn't quite get there lol) I'm happy with my progress thus far though I know now is the time I need to step up the exercise since I admit I haven't excersied much at all. But now that I'm down quite a bit and moving around is easier I can actually do it without feeling like I'm going to die.
Surgery has changed my life honestly. I have had some emotional issues the last few months and I don't think I expected those things. Surgery is such an emotional process, more then I ever imagined. I won't lie to you pre ops, before surgery I kinda thought I would hgave surgery and all my issues would go away and my life would magically be amazing. Not quite the case. I still had my emotional baggage and even more so after surgery, but I am working on them. All in all though, I am SO happy and proud of my progress. I has changed my life for the better. Before surgery my health was going down hill very fast at only 23 years old. At my heaviest I was nearing 400lbs. I do not know my exact high weight but it was darn close to the 400 pound mark. I couldn't really walk more then a block with out feeling like I was going to passout. I was in SO much physical pain, more then I ever admited to. My knees hurt so badly (I have had several knee injuries over the years) I couldn't LIVE life anymore. I live in NYC and as you can imagine mobility is your life line and I had outgrown this city. I didn't have this surgery for vanity, though of course wearing smaller clothes and being able to shop anywhere you want is a huge plus, but I did it for health. I never, and still don't really strive to be a size 6. I want to be a size healthy.
I was 379 at my recored heaviest and in a size 26/28. Today I am sitting at 281 and am in a size 18/20. I am still big by most peoples standards but where I am now is day and night. I have never been less then 270 in my adult life and that is only 11 pounds from now. Excited to get there. I am a work in progress and am going to keep going and see where I wind up.
This was way longer then I meant it to be lol. Now for pictures- the real reason you all are here haha.

Today I hit a major milestone. I am now the lightest I've been in at least 15 years. I finally weigh under 200 pounds. It was so exciting to see it on the scale. I've been dancing around it for a few weeks. I am just thrilled with my new body as it emerges. Is it perfect? Certainly not but I'm embracing it. I can do more with my body than I've been able to in a long, long time. I am spending more quality time, active time, with my children. I get dressed and feel like I can go out with my head held high. I'm really proud and love the sleeve for helping me get there!

So sorry you feel this way. But really...no 20 year old should be 230lbs either. Is there nothing you can do now that you couldn't do when you were heavier? Do you not feel better? Are you not able to move better or feel lighter? And if you wore a bikini at 230, I'm certain you were one of those gals who folks looked at and said "naw she didn't...someone tell her she doesn't look good in that". Sorry, I've never seen someone over 200lbs look "good" in a bikini.
What you are talking about is vanity.... it's not about your health. Plastic surgery can take care of the lose skin. I just find it hard to believe you'd rather be fat, than be healthy and not be able to wear a bikini
Here's the deal..every bad decision has consequences. The consequence of being obese is the fact you have more skin...and once you lose the weight, you have loose skin. It's just a "fact jack".
So stop wishing you were fat again, and find you a nice slimming/sexy one piece. Ain't a dang thing wrong with a one piece. Or...find you a good plastic surgeon
Chin up! It's not that bad...

My NSV today was during my 6-month checkup: they used a NORMAL adult sized blood pressure cuff on me!! Not the large one. Yippee!!!!! Aaaannnnnddddd.....
I had my head down looking at my phone when doc walked in so he said hello in a normal voice, I said hello back & then looked up at him. He then said a surprised "Hey!" & "Your face is much thinner than the last time I saw you. What a difference!" We talked a bit & then when we were wrapping up I said, to my stunningly handsome doctor, "It's nice to be average looking again." He replied, "You're better than average looking."
<insert sheepish grin here>. Ah, too bad he's married with a gaggle of kids. But that fact doesn't have to stop me from feeling great about myself! Yay me!
