  1. I'm with you, Magtart...I didn't give it a second thought...went full throttle from the time I started on my journey to get approved right thru my surgery...my husband was probably more apprehensive than I was (he wasn't my hubby at that time) ... surgery is surgery and it can be a bit intimidating; but like most, I felt that my quality of life was non-existent and this would help me get it back, and it HAS!
  2. thanks, I'll look at that later... and how do you post a question on a forum? I tried the other day, but nothing showed up
  3. I wish my parents were still alive to see this (and for many other reasons, of course)... my Mom would be SO happy at my current state of being... Other than that...I'm good... my hubby loved me when I was at my highest (actually about the time we met) and loves me now...I can almost fit into his clothes now.... I keep telling him "what's mine, is mine; what's yours, is mine" ... now I'll be into his clothes.... (hello, boyfriend jacket)
  4. what is "bootcamp"? I'm at a stall...what are your suggestions to try to over-come it... I'd like to have 15-20 more pounds off by this time in March...
  5. I hope you have called your doctor..."every morning" is not a good thing...something is a miss here.... please let us know what you find out! Feel better soon.
  6. ...I don't mind the same stuff... I made mini cupcake lasagnas on Saturday and have had them for lunch each day...until I get rid of them... I guess I'm lucky that the "same ol', same ol'" doesn't bother me... ...but you have to get over the phobia of wasted food...at least for now... it is going to take awhile to adjust your cooking/eating to accommodate your sleeve; so be patient and do what you have to do to take care of YOU!
  7. That's an interesting visual...my dogs weigh about 10 pounds each so by that logic, I have lost over 12 dogs...by your measurement 24!!! I like it!
  8. Mine are Power Crunch...I love love love the chocolate mint (think-thin mints) and vanilla creme, but they have several flavors...they are available online at the Vitamin Shoppe at a really good price... low carbs and sugar...I keep one in my purse at all times for "emergencies"... i.e. I'm out and about and feeling the hunger pangs..
  9. Even tho you have less "dumping" on the sleeve, I have had it happen to me too...lessons learned QUICKLY... to this day, I keep a plastic cup with lid in my car and at my desk ... just in case; as you know, you have NO time to get to a proper "dumping site"...Fortunately this hasn't happened in quite some time, but better safe than sorry! ... LOL... good luck!
  10. I am in a rut...I may use that idea as well to try something new! Thanks!
  11. ...I am part of a chain...2 people in my office had the sleeve done, then me, now another... well, actually she wanted the sleeve, but was convinced the RNY was better for her... My sister and my therapist both had WLS done about 10 years ago and both have said, if they could do it all over again, they would have gone with the sleeve... I am loving my sleeve, it is a great tool... I did my research... it helps a great deal to understand everything about this surgery, as it is SURGERY... but I don't regret one moment of it, and am an advocate of the sleeve for anyone that asks!
  12. eating slowly ... I think that tops just about everyones list! pre-planning well... I do have things in the frig for my meals, but I don't really "plan" fortunately, with my job, I get my water in as I bring a jug of ice water from home every day (clean water system at home)...and vitamins I keep at work, so I don't have a problem there either
  13. ...it may seem like a lot...but wait until you get there! LOL...but we are here for support. that's part of your problem... you are NOT eating 3x's a day!!! As you will learn, it is imperative that you have 3 full meals a day, and drink your water; especially after surgery...it is VITAL...so start practicing now... I have it easier, I have a desk job, so I bring my ice Water from home (clean water system there) in a thermal jug to get me thru the day... you can do this...just BELIEVE! Protein and low carbs are the keys here, so read your labels, you will learn to do that with everything going forward anyway. The yogurt we were told to get is carbmaster available at Kroger (if you have them near you)... low carbs, higher protein.
  14. Each doctor is different... but mine had no "real" food... all liquids for two weeks... the best thing to do is ask your doctor what they mean by "snacks" so you do it right... good luck to you, congrats on setting the date!
  15. what 3 "meals" are you speaking of? Protein shakes? You don't have meals, the shakes are your meal; unless your dr. is doing it differently. The Snacks are things like no sugar Jello, low carb (carbmaster) yogurt...things of that nature... it helps you get thru the day... is that what you are referring to?
  16. yep, that pretty much sums up the range of emotions....good luck to you and I hope they push it up... that's always exciting!
  17. I know two people that had the RNY over 10 years ago, and while they are still doing well; they both said, if they had it to do over, they would have sleeved. Have you told your coordinator of your concerns and that you'd rather be sleeved? You really need to understand the pros and cons from her side. One of the girls in our office just got the RNY instead of the sleeve because that's what her coordinator told her as well (different dr) ... but she really wanted the sleeve; she felt the overall benefits for long term were better... I am glad I got the sleeve...no regrets! If you are thinking the RNY is a good "dumping" tool to control your eating; that's not good... but it sounds like you guys need to have further discussion.
  18. BOL!!! That was some creative writing!!! Now I'm torn, shall I buy some or not??? Thanks, I needed this today! WHERE did you find this stuff! Hysterical!
  19. found this post and LOVING it... about halfway thru all the NSVs.... so I'd like to add of few of mine: 1. was able to cross my legs was HUGE when I realized I could do that...but I was able to cross them in a movie theater and had room!!! 2. the pants falling down issue happened with me too, my new friend-a belt!!! I never used one before. 3. smaller EVERYTHING... donated to GW and cleared out closet...the other day I was wearing one of my newer blouses and my friend told me to get rid of it, it's too big and made me look frumpy! I'm sure there have been many more, but just being able to walk up a flight of stairs without losing my breath speaks to the healthier side of me...LOVE MY SLEEVE!!!!
  20. We all have the problem of giving too much information... I don't see the real problem with what you said, you were being honest...did you speak with her about your concerns for a February surgery date and see if there is something that you can work out? Seems a bit ridiculous that they have that kind of power; but I know they do...because I was told I had to pass the eval as well when I had my surgery...and part of it was a "test" on a computer that took almost an hour ... which was stupid, since anyone with a brain would know how to answer those things "correctly"... I also had to attend a nutritional class with an addition counselor...during the class, she kept telling one guy he was SOOOO not ready for surgery; and I had to agree with her, the things he was saying was RIDICULOUS for someone with a weight problem... in the end, it's all worth it if you do it the right way! Good luck
  21. there is a guide somewhere... you can probably ask your surgeon...the one I remember is the Protein (fish/meat/chicken) would be about the size of a deck of cards... since protein is the most important, thats the one I remember; so when we go out, I cut my portion and then get a "to-go" box for the rest for lunch the next day I know that's just a little thing, but hope it helps
  22. Each insurance has different criteria for the surgery; actually I am kind of surprised they talked to him about YOU (HIPAA)...but they probably answered in general terms. When I checked with mine, they said that it is a covered benefit if the Dr shows the medical necessity for it...but my surgeon has that under control ... but it still took about 3 months for everything to process and for me to complete all the pre-op stuff before I was scheduled... but I would not trade it for anything!!!
  23. Glad today is a better day... you may not be getting enough on your pre-op diet... I remember the first day or two were difficult...but I had my mind set in the right way and then it was fine! Some people do struggle more than others...but find someone you can talk to...even if it is a therapist... it's an uphill battle, but YOU CAN DO IT!
  24. I had mine removed prior to surgery (like 5 years prior)... but if you are having it removed, it shouldn't have anything to do with the surgery... whatever the case...good luck... I was in the hospital longer for that thing that my sleeve surgery!
