Found out today my surgery date is September 18th! Whoo hoo!!

Thank you so much! Yes, it is a major relief! I feel like such a weight has been taken off my shoulder. Now comes the next stress, waiting for surgery day! That's a different kind of anxious though!!

I really hope I get a date soon. I think with my work schedule, it may be around the middle of October before I can take off for it. Hoping that will work with the surgeon's office!

Thanks everyone!! I am so excited and relieved to finally know the answer! I don't have a date yet, they center didn't get the approval until late this afternoon. I will call my surgeon on Tuesday morning and set a date for my consultation. I guess I will find out a date then.

I just got the call about 45 minutes ago from my surgeon's office saying that my insurance had finally approved me!! YAY! I was denied at first for not being obese 5 years ago in 2008 (stupid). So my insurance company asked that I have a 2 hour glucose test and a letter from my doctor stating why I am taking Metformin. <I was diagnosed with insulin resistance about 8 years ago, and the insurance company only originally requested 5 years of medical records> So, after submitting all of that extra stuff to them yesterday (or maybe this morning is when they got it ?) I AM FINALLY APPROVED! :D

So glad you are doing well!! Is it normal to stay in the hospital for 5 days where you had your surgery?

Congrats!! How exciting! Who did you email at BCBS/ where did you find an email address? I thought about calling them tomorrow, but I may just email them tonight.

I spoke with the psych for maybe ten minutes, then took all the tests. My surgeon's office told me that it wasn't a pass or fail thing, so I guess it's really just to see how emotionally stable you are. It was not a big deal at all. A ton of the questions were like: Do you feel as though someone is out to get you? Have you ever wanted to physically harm yourself or someone else? One even said, If you were a news reporter, would you want to report crime? Just seemed like a little bit of a waste of time/money to me... but maybe it is helpful for some people.

Whoops, forgot to put that I haven't had the surgery yet. But hoping to by mid-October.

zebrasprinkles, congats on your pre approval!! How exciting!! I am still awaiting approval myself (just submitted to insurance 8/9/12.) What insurance company do you have? How long did it take from the date you submitted to insurance to the day you received the letter from them??

Hi xiola511, I'm brand new to the site as well. So like you, I have a ton of questions. I just submitted all my documents to insurance today!! I'm praying for a fast approval! If approved, I'm hoping to be scheduled by mid October. Keeping my fingers crossed...

Today is the day that all of my medical records, letter of recommendation from my PCP, and psych eval were sent to Blue Cross. I'm praying for an approval!! The insurance specialists at the hospital that I hope to have my surgery at said we have to give them at least thirty days to make a decision. I sure hope it doesn't take them that long... Seems to me that once they look over all the files, it should be a pretty cut and dry decision. But, whatever lol How long did it take everyone to hear back from their insurance companies, specifically BCBS of TN? Once you were approved, how long did it take to get a surgery date with your surgeon? I'm brand new to this site, so any help/advice/encouragement is greatly appreciated! If my insurance doesn't approve my surgery, then I am thinking about going to Mexico (to save money.) Any thoughts on that?! My best friend thought I had lost my mind when I told her that today lol!
