    January fitness challenge

Going to follow my 13.1 app (Pink by Zen Labs) plan in order to do a half marathon this spring or summer. It is four days of running and two days of cross-training a week. I have done many 5ks and one 10k this past year, so 1/2 is the next step! I am also a year out this January, so this app was a present to myself to stay focused and hopefully lose that last 20 pounds. I am also planning on running an actual 5 or 10k each month to stay focused on upping my personal record while having fun.
  3. Happy New Year everyone! May this be your healthiest yet as we are just about a year out! What a difference a year makes! Today starts my next phase in my journey......I am staring the Pink 13.1 App......my goal is to run a half marathon this year!
  4. Hey Jeff.....that is fantastic!! Well, I will raise the bar and add 5K.....I am doing a 10 K next Saturday night!! It is called Ghouls and Fools....I think that I am the fool!! It is a trail run, at night and it has Halloween decorations hanging in the trees!! Cannot wait! It starts and ends at a German beer club. Doing a Thanksgiving day 5 K as well! Great start to a usual food fest day!! I am so proud that you did well!! Keep at it! Life is awesome that you live to its fullest! Rock on Jeff and anyone else out there!!
  5. Keya......how beautiful! You look so radiant! Warrior Dash was a success! I ran the entire thing and did ever obstacle! Even the really high rope climb! I am in another 5 k with obstacles this weekend. I am now a running junkie....lol! I could never run....not even in my best shape of my 20's! I tried but could never get past a few hundred feet and not I regularly run 3 miles 3 times a week! I feel so accomplished, that I moved onto couch to 10k. I need to up my speed. I run a 13 minute mile. I know, I have the endurance, not the speed. Good luck with all of you! I hope all are well!
  6. Oh and PS.....I am running in the Warrior Dash next Saturday....the 24th!!! It is an obstacle run with lots of mud and some fire....lol! Look it up....can't wait to tell you about it! I am so excited to get the fuzzy horn hat when I complete the race! I will take a photo!
  7. On week 7 of C25K.....I do the Zen Labs App and it really works! I now consider myself a runner! I have pretty much stalled out in June and since I started running, I lost about 14 pounds! I love it and I only do 35 minutes every other day. School starts up again soon and I am a teacher.....so just hoping I still am motivated to work out after a long day with kindergarteners! I did not get my fit bit flex yet.....they are sold out EVERYWHErE! Even online says October! Hope you all are doing great! Enjoy the rest of summer!

I had my surgery January 8, a Tuesday. I took off 9 days and lucked out that the Monday of the following week was Martin Luther King day. So, I went back to work two weeks to the day. I spent two nights in the hospital, due to nausea and low blood pressure. I didn't have any other complications. I could have gone back to work at about the week and a half mark. I was just really tired the first week and a half. Good luck and try to work the holiday if you have that off already!

I teach kindergarten in an urban school district in PA. I had my surgery on January 8, 2013. Tomorrow is six months and I am down 87 pounds from the beginning of my journey last May. I took two weeks off of work. That was enough IMO! Looking forward to hearing about other's journey here and give advice when I can.
  10. Happy Anniversary to everyone! Great for you, Jeff! Doesn't it feel awesome to feel awesome?!?!?! I am sitting at my six Month's appointment as I type this. I am not at goal yet, but I am still following my plan and started couch to 5 k last week. My goal is to do a 5 K in the fall and run the whole thing! My present to myself after this appointment is to go to Best Buy and get a fitness monitor.....still torn between a fitbit flex and Body Media. I will make my decision when I get there.....anyone have an opinion? Well, here's to our six month anniversary! May the next six months be even better!
  11. Starting weight 250. 1/8/13 Current weight 179 6-22-13 (loss of 71 pounds at 5.5 months) I have barely exercised due to work (walking when I could) and just when I was done with work(teacher) I pulled my back out! I start my new regimen TODAY! I want to lose 30 more pounds!
  12. Oh yes! Gobs of hair! I wear my hair in ballerina buns and braids because if I wear it down, you can see the hair sticking out longer below the length of my hair! I take my vitamins faithfully, bought biotin scalp spray and just gave in to the Nioxin items!! (Holy crap.....must be made of gold! 91 bucks for shampoo and conditioner!). I have (had) very full hair and probably lost half the volume.....no bald spots....it is like I lost every other strand! As for weight loss.....75 pounds down about 30 more to go. That will be high school weight......I look decent now, but I just want that goal! I am still losing and wearing size 10 comfortably. It is just crawling off now! Jeff, you are doing awesome and it depends on what you look like and how you are built. My husband feels best at a 34 and struggles when he is a 36......maybe give yourself some bounce wiggle room. It is all up to you and how you feel! Awesome job everyone else on your journey! Keep it up! We are soon to that 6 months anniversary whereI think it will magically just stop. I would love to exercise but I had a scary episode with my back exploding while driving my son to school and blacked out from the pain, pulled over and put it in park as I was blacking out. I go to the spine specialist next Monday. Hopefully, I can get into a routine soon! I am a teacher and that happened on my first day of summer last Tuesday. I had all kinds of plans to kick my exercising up into high gear! Oh well.....another road block! Stay happy everyone! Enjoy the journey, summer and make good use of summer's fruits and exercise opportunities!
  13. Way to go Jeff!! I am excited for you! And 10 more pounds....pfft.....easy peasy!
  14. Stef.....I am sure you feel awesome for obtaining soon to be clearance of meds! Keep it up!
  15. Way to go Newme! That is awesome! I am sure you will hit that goal of running the whole thing and maybe a half marathon is not too far off! Congratulations Jeff! I am rooting for you to she'd those 10 pounds quickly!
