enigmachik got a reaction from MrsG in Wild game?
I'm pretty sure it's only early on that they advise against wild game. It's a little tougher than farm raised meat. They say not to eat nuts and seeds early on because they can get caught in the staple line if you consume them before the scar tissue has formed. For the record I've eaten wild game, nuts, and seeds without issue.

enigmachik got a reaction from joatsaint in Did any of you have doubts pre-surgery when you saw pics and videos of the loose skin left after weight loss?
I'd rather have loose skin and be healthy, than have gorgeous skin in a fat and unhealthy body. Also, the loose skin can be hidden under the right kinds of clothes, but the fat cannot. In addition, the only people who ever see the loose skin are me and my significant other. Everyone can see my fat.

My first period after surgery came very late. My second period didn't come until I'd missed almost three cycles! It took me over six months before things started normalizing. I think it's fairly common because your hormones are all over the place during weight loss.

It's not about a percentage to take out. As Laura said, they have a goal to remove the fundus. Our anatomy is not exactly the same from person to person, so someone could have a particularly stretched out stomach pre-sleeve and require 85% taken out, where someone else will have a smaller stomach and it equates to only 60% being taken out.
The percentage isn't what important. They use a bougie so they get a uniform sleeve size post-op -- however much of your stomach has to be taken out to get to that sleeve size is irrelevant.

enigmachik reacted to Billysbelly in One year, four months.Wow it's been awhile since I've been on. I've heard this before, SUGAR IS THE DEVIL!
Well I'm finally getting back on track, I was stalled for almost 6 months, yea 6 months just hovering around 230 and not going any where. I needed to kick start again with either different diet or more exercise. Well I have had a hard time with sugar and carb intake and I'm a diabetic 2. I could not kick putting sugar in my coffee, Splenda tastes terrible in it. Well I decided to try the Atkins thing again like I tried several times before my operation with little success. Let me tell you, it is easier now. I don't know if it has to do with the operation but, after a week I do not have a appetite anymore, I think that sugar and heavy carbs was making me crave more. The weight is really melting off again. My exercise is still not that strenuous but I need some muscle tone so I'm gonna hit some weights. If your wondering what I can eat well I can eat a whole sandwich, whole burger, or whole hotdog and still have a tiny bit of room. I wish it were like weeks after the surgery when I could never finish a whole sandwich. Maybe my surgeon made my pouch a little bigger because I wasn't that heavy going in?? I don't know? I'm still taking the Vitamins and the Calcium supps and haven't seen a protien shake since right after the surgery. Im really itching to get to my goal of 199, I haven't seen that since probably 8th grade. Well I hope all is well with my VSG buddies. Take care. And I'll be back.

I was going up and down stairs within hours of my surgery. I had to go slowly and carefully, but it was not a problem.

Just have to give kudos to my husband fiddleman who has been working out at crossfit for about 2 months or so now twice a week. He just came back from a workout and I touched his upper leg- it felt like it had no give in it whatsoever! I seriously couldn't believe his leg was that hard and had to keep touching it to be sure. He's got his college cycling legs back! Plus he getting nicely defined pecs- he's never had that! Crossfit really does get your body into shape and resculpted. :) . Happy wife! I can't wait to have my surgery and be able to do workouts like that!

It's true that most of us are very happy with our sleeves. It's also true that at one week post-op many of us were not quite so happy. The first few weeks after you get sleeved are tough. They are draining emotionally, physically, and psychologically, BUT it's temporary. Before long you will be through this stage and eating normally again. It's a new normal, but it will feel pretty darn normal, and it will be great. Hang in there. The recovery period can seem like it lasts forever at times, but I promise you that before long you'll look back and be amazed at how fast it all went by. And you'll be doing all this reminiscing in a new thinner, sexier bod! It's worth it. It's soo worth it!!

I work in Human Resources for Whole Foods Market and I can tell you that many of the stores also have the grinding options for almond butter and cashew butter. All of the fresh ground nut butters are amazing! If you choose the plain ones, the only ingredient is the nut itself (no added sugar/salt/oil) so it's also the healthiest option. Another hint, try drizzling a tiny amount over kale or other leafy greens. It gives it a wonderful nutty flavor and adds a little Protein punch.

enigmachik got a reaction from No game in Did you cheat on your pre-op liquid diet?
I had to do two weeks of clear liquid only and I did not cheat. I figured if I was really serious about making a change, I better start with the pre-op diet. Keep going, you're more than half way there, you CAN do this!

enigmachik got a reaction from janarae in eating to much
You may find that in a couple of weeks you are not able to eat quite as much as you can eat now. The reason is that at three weeks out, the nerves in your stomach that were severed during surgery are still pretty numb so you may not feel the restriction as readily as you will after those nerves repair themselves.

enigmachik reacted to Kalimomof3 in How much can you lose?
The way my doctor explained it to me was that it roughly 65% of your excess weight so if you were 100 lbs overweight you would lose 65 lbs BUT He also explained that it is an average and that some people lose more ad some less it all depends on the determination of the individual. There are people on here who lose all of their excess weight I am planning on being one.
