  2. Thank you everyone! Uk Cathy, it is true that weight falls off at a different rate. I went 3 weeks with only losing 2 lbs then all of a sudden I was down 12 in a week. Slow and steady wins the race! Plus, with losing it slower you aren't at risk for certain things like gall stones and such! Keep up the good work and I look forward to hearing more from you. Are there any suggestions on fighting the excess skin?

  4. Hi everyone, My name is Christy. On April 16, 2012 I had a Gastric Verticle Sleeve done. I made my decision to have it done based on the fact that I was 37 years old, a diabetic with sleep apnea and never had the energy to keep up with my 4 children. As a child and a teenager, I was average size and began to put on weight after my first child. I had been "morbidly obese" most of my adult life. I put the words morbidly obese in quotations because I never thought of myself that way until a doctor told me I was. I am 5'7" and weighed just under 300lbs. (298 to be exact). At my heaviest I was 327. Although the number was huge, in the mirror I knew I was fat, but morbidly obese? I had worked as a paramedic for many years and to me "morbidly obese" was the patients who were bed bound or could hardly walk. I was active and could get around just fine, but when the co-morbidities came on like diabetes, I knew they were right. My weight was an issue. Now I am 10 weeks post-op, off of all my medications, 55lbs lighter and feeling amazing. This truely is a life changing event and I can't wait to meet some people on here who have been through it and encourage me with their stories.
