I'd never heard of these things before, but a discussion about them popped up on another forum I'm on, and I did some research and I bought one today at Walmart. If you haven't heard of it, it's an electric pressure cooker with all sorts of settings and ways to make different foods. For my inaugural meal I decided to make some RIBS. High Protein, zero carbs, not as low in fat as I'd like but not awful.
I bought some "country style ribs" at Aldi, basically thick-cut boneless ribs. Made them in the cooker for 25 minutes, put a little sauce on and finished in the oven for 15 minutes. Holy cow delicious! There were two larger ones and two smaller ones in the package, so I made the smaller ones for me and the larger ones for my wife. She doesn't like barbecue sauce so she put teriyaki sauce on and said it was good. She ate both of hers, I just had one that was about 3.5 oz and that filled me up, so I saved the other one for later in the week. I found a ton of recipes online and looking forward to mixing things up a bit in the kitchen.
If anyone has one of these and has recipes or tips to share, I'd love to hear them!
    Next purchase - AIR FRYER.
(Before and after photos below, the teriyaki are on the left, the BBQ on the right)

Not that I was skeptical, but to a degree in your mind you think nothing works for YOU. I kept reading success stories but felt I would be different. February 11th will be my 3 year surgiversary, and for about a year and a half I've just been maintaining my weight. But I knew I wasn't done, that I had about 50lbs more to lose... so I started watching what I ate more, didn't eat after 7pm, exercised more, drank more Water (64oz or more), all that but my weight wouldn't move or kept creeping up. So I read and read and read and finally decided to do the test, although I don't have a pouch but a sleeve.
This wasn't just to start losing again but it reset my mind back to the basics. I'm on day three now, soft Protein and for the first time in two years eating 1 1/2 scrambled eggs filled me up. Weighed myself before I ate and lost 6lbs. Motivating me to finish off the last couple of days and focus on my intake more once it's over. I pray my weight keeps going down because this mornings number (244)... [started at 322, surgery weight 308... maintaining between 245 and 250...] is the lowest I've ever seen. If I hit 239, imma buy everyone a car !!! Jk jk but y'all see what I mean. My point is if you've hit a stall or have maintained for too long and wanna keep going.. get your mind right and this will help you refocus. ????

Great response from Kathy. Mourning food is a phase and a totally normal one. I remember obsessively watching the Food Network about at one week out feeling so sad about all the things I would never eat again. Total pity party for one. [emoji23]

To all the newly post op, please see Super Bowl Sunday for what it is...one afternoon. One afternoon that you tell yourself, no to booze and junk food. Your sleeve is for the Rest of Your Life (assuming you don't eff it up). Stop acting as though one afternoon is unbearable. Pre op, you most likely had a two week liquid diet; that was 14 days and you did it! Now you are 3, 4, or 5 weeks out and you can't handle one afternoon? The wants you are listing- alcohol, tortilla chips, and fried chicken- are what put us on the operating table to begin with. Why let one afternoon get you twisted? Stay the course now so you can be a success story later.

I was more afraid surgery wouldn't work for me and I wouldn't lose rather than that I would gain it all back. I didn't lose as fast as you did so I had more time to adjust. I highly recommend seeing a therapist and joining a support group to work through your unresolved issues with food. There are just too many regain posts and cautionary tales on here to ignore. Thank you, I think its great that you made this post. I am more than certain that others do share the same fear that you do. The surgery did its part on the physical and now you have to do yours on the mental.

miracle noodles, zucchini noodles (zoodles), or edamame noodles are good substitutes, just cook until very soft.

I was on liquids only for the first 3 weeks and even then could only tolerate 1-2 teaspoons of something like Greek yogurt or refried Beans. I can't imaging trying to injest anything but liquid at 5 days. If it's uncomfortable for you, then don't do it. Just concentrate all your efforts on fluids and Protein for now. If you are having trouble staying hydrated then talk to your surgeon.

Four years out and I can barely see my scars. There is only one that I can see easily. The incisions are small to begin with and then shrink and lighten with time. The one I can see is the "big" incision which was about 2" when it was fresh. Now it is less than 1" as a mature scar. Frankly the stretch marks on my stomach are way worse than my scars.

Let's keep it real- Wine and fried wings are not junk alternatives, so yea, you were asking for permission to have them. However someone here mentioned chili and someone else mentioned refried Beans both are good choices assuming you are cleared for them.

How far out are you? Are you trying to lose or maintain? How active are you?
To take a stab at it without any info, for losing weight most people go low carb. Many people are under 50 grams of carbs but some are even under 20 grams a day. For women, fat helps regulate our hormones so I would not suggest going under 30 grams of fat a day with an upper limit of 60 grams.

This is a tough time. Know that it does get better and there is no need to "mourn" food.....You'll be able to eat those things again down the road. Some sooner than others. All the meats and Proteins you'll be able to have before you know it, so just hang in there and stick to your plan. Once you're past the weight loss phase you'll be able to work special treats into your plan from time to time.....so there is not really a reason to mourn.
Try to stay busy it will help with the head hunger. Go for frequent walks.....also a good trick to curb a craving is to brush your teeth.......drink lots of water!
I wish you the best. Hang in there!
    Take Care,
    Kathy

3.5 weeks? You can have soft foods right? No carbonation, no sugar, no solids, no alcohol. I'd recommend sticking to Water (or whatever you drink instead of water) and your own food. Trust me, if you try to eat any of the food you will probably be quite sick and could hurt your stomach incision. Your tummy isn't ready for that stuff.
If it were me? I'd just say you are on a diet and are doing shakes.
