    Dr. Alvarez

Dr. Alvarez is AMAZING!! I had surgery 2 years ago TOMORROW!...and I am down 200 pounds!! Highest weight was 350, currently holding 150 give or take a few pounds. I was nervous at first, but once I met him and the staff I knew it was the best choice! I had paid for the surgery myself (i had no insurance). My entire experience was AMAZING!!...I can HONESTLY say that I had the best care at his facility that I have ever had in my life. I was 18 years old when I had surgery. For me, my recovery went very easy..little to no pain at all, followed my diet instructions, exercised..and weight just started coming off. I know everyone is different I am just telling how it worked for me Susan his patient coordinator is awesome, she helps with anything and gets back to me almost instantly! Even post-op I still talk to them! He is truly an incredible doctor with a huge heart

    Did/will You Announce Your Surgery?

I had a lot of problems with this too. Close family and friends, I made sure that they knew everything that was going on. I asked them to not speak publicly to their friends or family, and I just wanted to make sure I had a strong support system before I went into having WLS. After the first few months of dropping weight, people obviously started to ask questions but at that point I was comfortable enough to explain what I did. I thought I would have to explain my reasons or argue with people, but honestly they could see how much happier and healthier I was. After loosing 200 pounds, most people don't really ask how I lost the weight, if they haven't seen me..all they can say is "WOW YOU LOOK GREAT CONGRATS!" It's a personal choice, whatever YOU feel more comfortable doing.

Im 26 And Im Rocking My Sleeve

To be honest it has made my life EASIER than when I was overweight! I made sure all of my friends knew that I did have it done, so that way they would understand why I choose not to eat junk food. When we are out I try and make the healthiest choices of food. When we have family/friend parties I will have a margarita or even wine and it doesn't bother me. Again drinking alcohol is not frequent for me. I'm so lucky to have been able to have the surgery when I was 18. These are the years I want to be healthy and live my life. Simple things like shopping, or going to an amusement park, or even the movies seems so much easier because I can actually fit in the seats, and fit into clothes!

    New Here

I had mine June 11,2010..almost 2 years out and I lost 200 pounds! It was the BEST decision I have ever made for myself. Best advice would to make sure you get friendly with the gym sooner rather than later and keep hydrated! Also check out local support groups/ making sure you surround yourself with positive and supportive people. My starting weight was 350, currently steady between 145-150. If you have any questions feel free to message me!

I've Never Even Been On A Cruise....

I went on a cruise to the Bahamas in January. It was GORGEOUS! The food was so good, even though I wasn't able to eat all of it lol. I didn't feel bad filling up my plate and barely touching it since all the food is included in price. My fiance doesn't mind having what I don't eat lol. Even two years out from my surgery..my eyes are still bigger than my tummy!
