When I go to the gym I always get dressed in the dry sauna , tie sneakers , and stretch. This guy said why do you need to sweat your so skinny? I explained my need to warm up I ain't no ninja. Then gave due credit to my surgeon and sleeve he in turn related he consulted with My surgeon 10 years ago and was talked out of rny bypass by family. I educated him about this "new " procedure and my so far success . He is 55 and has been 375 - 425 as long as he remembers and is "calling him back this week" I will take 100 bad reactions if I can help one person by sharing my experience it's how I say thank you to god for this gift I have been given. As far as trainers negativity " let your haters be your motivators" !!!

Everyone has a reason for their choice, but I don't share my business. It is personal and I couldn't care less for anyone's opinion about what I elect do do or why I elected to do it. I don't lie and I'm not hiding anything, I just don't share my personal business. I wouldn't tell a salesperson that the reason why I am looking for a certain size panties is because I lost weight from vsg. Not their business.
I don't suggest that someone should agree with my approach because a lot of people are helped when someone who has had bariatric surgery shares their experience and can encourage others to seek similar help if they need it. It depends on your personality, your goals and your preferences. If you are going to willingly disclose your surgery with everyone, then be prepared for any and every reaction.

Isopure Alpine punch is the only Protein I can tolerate now... I did Premier Protein shakes for pre and post op, and now am totally SICK of all of those sickeningly sweet shakes... I do Isopure over ice with a wedge of lime in my glass... sometimes when I am feeling froggy, I chill it in a martini shaker and serve it in a martini glass!

Strangefruit reacted to ProudGrammy in how much are you eating 4 months out?
SleeveShelly per NUT, i measured, volume portions all the time - 1/3 cup - 2/3 cup ie
at 4 months po i think you should have never stopped measuring your food - its too early, and many people continue to measure - then you won't accidentally over eat - larger portion - and digest too many calories
there i things that i frequently eat, like home made chili - i use my baby bowl - i know exactly how much i am supposed to eat, so in other words i don't measure any more
there are foods that i can guesstimate
but at one year post op - (not always) but i still do measure

Strangefruit reacted to nck12nicholspd in I can't stand PROTEIN!
I'm so tired to Protein. I'm at the end of my first week of full liquids--I have one more week to go. I am having the hardest time drinking all my protein! Sure, I sip all day, but the taste (and I've tried a bunch--Nectar, Isopure, Premier Protein, etc.) of all of them are driving me crazy. It's to the point that I'd just rather drink Water all day...which is exactly what I did today. I know that's not healthy. I know my hair is gonna fall out probably. I need encouragement!
Do any of you feel the same way about protein? I feel like once I start my mushies I'll be ok, but for now, with just liquids, I'm about to pull my hair out....of course, it'll probably come out on its on.

Strangefruit reacted to Donny in The Holidays destroyed my diet, but I had fun!
I went back to Minnesota for two weeks over Christmas and New Years and did good eating healthy at most meals, but why are there so many snacks! I had way too much sweets, snack foods, and alcohol, I fell of the wagon hard. I am a strong willed person though and snapped right back into VSG mode as soon as I got home Tuesday afternoon. I will say that I still used Portion Control and kept semi track of calories in my head and I did lose 5 lbs since leaving 2 weeks ago.
Now for the fun part! All my family and friends were blown away by my success and everyone was so proud of me! We went out dancing at some of the country bars and I brought my newly learned Texas two step skills and a lot of people wanted to dance with me. I never could get attention at bars before. My favorite part was when the band played Copper Head Road and 4 great looking girls started doing the line dance and while all the guys stood around watching them my new confidence had me right in between them rocking out (Thanks Texas for teaching me to dance lol)
The point of my message... Were all human, we make mistakes. I have worked very hard to get where I am today and for two weeks I let lose again and embrace my new self. It proved to me that all the hard work I have done is paying off. We just need to be strong enough to know when enough is enough and get back on plan.
I missed my goal of 100lbs by NYE because of the decisions I made, but the smile on my face and the happiness in my heart meant so much more than any number on a scale could ever mean!
    My NYE Picture!

Just read that it's a double whammy of major surgery/anesthesia and rapid weight loss, and there's nothing you can do about it!
Not getting enough Iron or Protein makes it even worse apparently.

Maybe its because you have only been here a couple of weeks, but your post ( in my opinion) is insensitive and judgemental... People who need this surgery are not typically good at staying on diets, or are yo yo dieters who sometimes fail when it comes to always doing the right thing. I am a professional dieter, but after my surgeon had me on Liquid Protein skakes for FIVE weeks, even commercials for McDonalds looked like gourmet cuisine...
I think some come here to vent, some come to be talked out of a temptation because this? ...Is a SUPPORT group...
To say that people are "lacking in common sense" because they may need help to stay on track is just ... mean.
I hope if you have a rough day and are tempted, that you get the support you need and are not belittled.

I do agree with Amazon...just tune out surroundings and focus on the food. Take your time, enjoy it with NO distractions and I bet you will have success!

I am sorry that you have to go through this. I have never slimed or thrown up. I am 16 weeks.
You need to focus only on eating when you are at work: no talking, no reading.
I would think that once would be enough.
    Good Luck.

Strangefruit reacted to Free2B in What Are Slimes?
I am nearly four weeks out. My experience with this is that it happens when you eat too much or too fast. It is not like vomiting, in that there is no "upheaval". Rather, there is pain in the chest and a kind of foamy saliva slowly comes back up your esophagus until it reaches your mouth and you can spit it out. In my case, the first time was with a popsicle. It took about ten minutes for all of the popsicle to come back up - a foamy, purple substance (grape popsicle). It was very uncomfortable and unpleasant but to me not as bad as vomiting because there was no nausea. You just knew it was coming up and waited it out.

The way I understand it, if you eat too much too fast,,you will vomit a slime like substance. Dumping syndrome has a variety of symptoms.

Everyone's journeys different. Our Pre-surgery lives and relationships with food vary so it goes without saying that our post-sleeve lives will also vary. I've cheated -thank God no complications other than temporarily feeling like I wanted to puke my guts up and/or pass out! Every single day is a struggle with food-my head (and nut, dr. Etc.) say ok to eat chicken and eggs, etc. etc. Well, I can't. Two or three tiny bites and done! Veggies are not going down at all. Water must have addiditves. Am I tempted to eat other things? Sure. But I don't. Not when my own body is telling me "nah, can't digest that, sweetheart!" Whaaaaaaa! I'm surviving on Greek yogurt, cheese, daily shake and Protein Bar. I ate a few homemade Christmas Cookies, they went down just fine (figures!) but couldn't eat my Cornish game hen, green Beans, etc. This journey is not for the weak-choices and decisions need to be made with every bite of food or sip of beverage each and every day. I know that by next Oct. I'll be in much better shape, consumption wise, and without getting depressed, I've decided that this is my year to sacrifice my addiction for food for a healthier body. I've had my pizza. I've had my fried, greasy foods (you don't get to almost 300 pounds by eating salads!). I will have my salads and chickens-eventually! For now, I'm shrinking away and eating a lot of dairy -Mooooooo!

OP, have you attended your surgeon or hospital's support group? Do you have a counselor/therapist?
Look, this surgery ain't for sissies. It's HARD, and it's REALLY hard for the 1st month! But you were brave enough to choose this and you've got to suck it up, get your head in the game and ROCK THAT SLEEVE, girl!!!
You HAVE to do this for the people who love you and most importantly, for YOU. You CAN do it, so DO it.

I agree with you that she may need a wake up call but there is a way to do it and a level of respect that doesn't seem to be shown. A lot of the things being said would not be said face to face even to people's friends let alone in one of the physical support groups. Advice can and should be given especially since she is asking for it but to make comments about why did she have the surgery, etc like it's such a surprise that we don't always stick to the plan is ridiculous. That's what I'm referring to.

These threads are a real trip because I cannot believe how judgmental people are. This is a support network and I am new here but probably will get on another site because honestly it's one thing to be up front with someone but to just downright come down on them is uncalled for. She indicated she is really emotional and we all have had this surgery because we have food issues so this slip up while frightening is I'm sure, not unheard of. If you have this thing licked, then constructively help the rest of us that don't.
