    Yeah, no data on that, but then again I don't think there's data like that on the lap band or RNY, either, as neither has been around for the 40-50+ years that would be necessary for that kind of data.
    I would imagine, since there's no malabsorption with the sleeve, that the longevity stats would be great. Certainly they would be better than the lifespan of a morbidly obese person.

    cookies got a reaction from trojanchick in Is "banding" The Sleeve A Common Practice?
    I had the lap band and after that procedure, I can confidently say that I would never have a band at the bottom of my sleeve. Even if it's not filled/unfilled it's still something that could possibly have the same side effects of a band - erosion, etc.
    If the sleeve is hard to stretch to begin with (not that it can't be stretched) I really don't see much of a benefit.

    I use mine all the time. I do a lot of stew-type foods in it. chicken Chili, Lean pork shoulder in the crock pot until it shreds and then add some sauce to it. Taco Soup. Regular chili.
    The moist, falling-apart meat is really easy for me to eat at this stage (I'm about 6-7 weeks out).

    cookies got a reaction from kimbernada in Bougie Size And Amount Of Weight To Lose - Is There A Relationship?
    My doctor used a 32fr, but I'm not sure if it matters. There was a study done comparing a 40fr to a 60fr and they didn't find a difference in the short term.
    Someone posted this picture a while back that shows the differences between bougie sizes and it really is negligible.

    And bougie sizes in inches:
    32F = .40"
    34F = .425"
    36F = .45"
    38F = .476"
    40F = .5"
    46F = .576"
    60F = .75"
    I would say if you're comfortable with the surgeon that is the most important part, but if you're concerned I'd discuss it and see if he'll use a different size or at least stay close to the bougie when making the cut.

    Oh yay! Scar tissue is easy to deal with...or ignore. Leaving the port in would have been a pain, eventually.
    Glad to hear the good news.

    The advantage of having your surgery done locally is that if there is an issue you are very close to your doc and can get assistance quickly.

    cookies got a reaction from ashleyxx in Are Drain Necessary? I Need Recent Info/opinions On 2 Surgeons
    I wouldn't let the drain be the deciding factor. Some surgeons use them; some don't. The surgeon's complication rates, number of surgeries they've performed, etc. are much more important.
    My surgeon usually uses a drain (but removes it before you leave the hospital), but he didn't think I needed one, so I didn't get a drain.

    I'd contact your surgeon at this point. In the beginning it does hurt a bit to take a full breath because of the incisions, but at this point you should be able to take a normal deep breath without pain, I would think.
    They will want to make sure that you're not developing pneumonia or have a pulmonary clot.

    cookies got a reaction from LadyIvy in 12 Year Old Gastric Sleeve Patient
    It's too early, IMHO. There's too much growing happening in a 12 year old to be on an ultra-low calorie diet. And a 12 year old doesn't really grasp what lifelong decisions they're making.
    I know being an obese pre-adolescent and adolescent is awful (been there, done that), but I think WLS should be reserved until the late teens if at all possible. Just MHO, and what I would do if I had a son or daughter in this situation.

    You only drank one shake between the time you woke up and 3:30pm??? You need to have a second one around noon. 100 calories isn't going to last you until late afternoon.
    I would contact your surgeon and make sure they know you're diabetic and ask if they can modify your pre-op diet.

    I have a better substitution. Make your own sour cream with cottage cheese:
    2 Tbl. milk
    1 Tbl. lemon juice
    1 cup cottage cheese
    Blend until smooth. Refrigerate.
    That's it.
    It's super easy and really tastes like sour cream. And of course, you can use low-fat/non-fat versions of the milk and cottage cheese. Generally, it has about half the calories and twice the Protein of sour cream, depending what products you use.
