I went through 12 weeks of classes and was expected to lose 10% of my weight. Gained three or four pounds!
But...when I started my two week liquid diet I lost a lot more than 10%.
You will feel so good about yourself when you get past this point. You sound stronger than the average person and are probably a lot harder on yourself than most. Give yourself a break and just make up your mind to forgive yourself and move on. Hopefully you will be encouraging others in just a little while.

I am trying to think of something encouraging to say but all that comes to mind is "May God keep His hand on you and you have a speedy recovery."

Well, it is finally here. My sleeve is scheduled for this morning. Not too nervous, but feeling a few last minute jitters. I will be picked up by a shuttle for the trip across the border in about 30 minutes!

I'm almost 2 years out, and I really like sweets. Cake, in particular. At first, I didn't want or think much about it. Now, I have to consciously avoid sweets. I always say cake is the gateway food! If I have some, I want more, and it can send me into a tailspin of eating other junk. As long as I avoid it, I'm OK. I will say that even though I want it, lots of the things I try just doesn't taste as good as I think I remember. So, I try to remember that as a way to help with self control.
I don't know what's right for you. Sometimes I wish I had the RNY for this reason, but then I think about the advantages of the sleeve, and I'm glad I made this choice. Either way, whichever surgery you choose, it's going to be hard work. Neither of them will make you behave. (Oh, how I wish it could!) I know people who have RNY and just eat bad even though it makes them sick.
Another thing, I made a conscious effort to change my habits. It takes me a lot longer to develop a new habit than they say in the literature, lol. Like, almost 2 years after VSG, and I know I could easily revert back to previous habits. But, slowly, my new lifestyle is starting to become so ingrained that I rarely reach for something "bad". I'm all about moderation in most things, so I do allow myself sweet treats once in a while. I usually try to plan it, but you can't always plan life, so I just roll with it and keep my eye on the prize - being thin! Good luck, whatever you decide.

I agree with Mike4132. Put a shortcut to bariatricpal.com on your computer's desktop. If you can get him to venture to this website, direct him to The Guy's Room. If you go to the top of this page, click on FORUMS. On the page that pops up, scroll halfway down. The Guy's Room will be in there somewhere. Even if he shows no interest, he might just check it out while you are out walking the dog.....you never know.

It took a stroke and a collapsing spine to convince me I needed to do something extreme about my weight. Loyola University Medical Center did my surgery. At their bariatric clinic, not everyone gets surgery. One of their options is to continue the medically supervised diet with the nutitionist and extend appointments with the bariatric physician and psychologist.

Having a nutritionist in my corner has been a gift to me. She has taught me so many ways to help control my eating and has helped me develop new skills that are saving my life along with the sleeve. A non-surgical approach is clearly an option if he expresses resistance to surgery.

You did not say if you had any kind of weight issues yourself. Maybe the best you can do right now is to manipulate food sources in your house. You could make sure that there is plenty of meat and other dense Proteins in the fridge. If he is a Cheerios kind of guy, offer to make him Breakfast quiche (without the crust). (Go ahead and sneak some spinach into it while you are at it). Get one of those Eat This Not That kind of cookbooks and provide some tasty options that won't do too much damage. Do not eat tempting things in front of him.
One of the qualities that I love about my boyfriend of 8 years is that even though I was overweight when we met and I gained another 50 pounds after a series of surgeries that affected my mobility, he never asked me to change anything thing about myself. He is a smoker, and I have never asked him to change that habit or anything else. We love each other as we are. When I decided on my own to get my sleeve, he was supportive from the start. That is what your guy needs. Love him as he is and tell him you would feel safer if would escort yor on your walks. Maybe even shorten the walk for the time being and let the dog monkey around the yard. Just love your guy and let this situation work itself out.

Mine were glued too but they also had some kind of tape that eventually came off after a few showers. I can't remember but I think i pulled some of them off after they started coming loose.

My incisions were glued. There wasn't anything covering them. It was great! They all started to just fall off on their own around day 10. They were really low maintenance. Compared to other laparoscopic surgeries that I've had in the past, this was by far the best with regards to my incisions.

I am almost 8 wks out and I can eat about 3/4 cup of soft foods. My favorite "meal" is 3 slices of deli sliced turkey or chicken breast rolled up with a slice of cheese in the middle. Fills me up and i can eat on the go. Every now and then i eat a tiny bit of mashed potatoes w/gravy and some meatloaf or whatever kind of meat.for dinner. I am mostly eating meat for Protein to see if I can get my weight loss moving.
The only thing I miss and having trouble getting used to is drinking while I am eating or right after because sometimes I get really thirsty.
The folks i am acquainted with tell me to have patience, the weight will go.
Last night i went to Dickie's Bar B Que with my family and ate mostly chicken with a tiny bit of mashed potatoes but I was a little frustrated because it smelled so good but I was feeling stuffed.
If losing weight and keeping it off means this is the way I will have to eat the rest of my life then so be it.Now I can fit in a booth at a restaurant, don't mind going out in public, and shopping for clothes is actually fun instead of frustrating, just to name a few things i am thrilled with.
Best trade off I've ever made.

Phooey! You will be able to eat ice cream in just a few weeks! I had some last night and not for the first time
    Quit torturing yourself!
I don't remember how many food funerals I had pre-op. "Last time i will be able to have this or that."
Looking back now, it is really funny.

FYI, The pre op diet helped me taper off on my food intake and was easier for me because i knew that i would not be able eat hardly anything for a few weeks post op.
I pray that those of you that don't have pre op liquid diets don't have too hard of a time eating nothing, all of a sudden.
The good news is that you may not be hungry at all post op. I was not hungry for a few days and gradually felt like my body was trying to tell me i needed to eat something to survive even though i was not hungry.
Another thing i like about the sleeve is that now when I feel like i am really hungry (starving), just a little bit of food satisfies me.

At that stage I loved cooked chicken breast pureed with chicken broth (Better than Bouillon). It was so delicious! My wife got me these tiny little baby spoons and each little bite was just sooooo good!
These stages go by pretty fast, looking back. Just remember that you are letting your stomach heal right now. Don't rush it or get discouraged. Let it heal real good and then you will learn how and what you can eat. Everyone is a little different.
My written instructions were pretty slim but the words "as tolerated" gave me something to work with.

I was sleeved 7/14/14 and have pretty much been able to take normal swallows since day 2 in the hospital. I don't chug like I used to but when I haven't drank something for a while and the body is craving liquids I can take as many as five mouthfuls at a time without pain. I try not to do that too often, preferring to stay hydrated throughout the day... but this mainly comes in after waiting 30 minutes after a meal and by Golly the waiting is horrible. and nearly impossible. still.

Premier Protein shakes ready to drink from costco. 30 G Protein, 160 calories. vanilla or chocolate. Taste pretty good. Not sure if you have Costco in Canada. If not, you must have GNC, Vitamin Shoppe or order online. Lots of great choices out there. Costco also carries a powder I got also. 27g protein, 140 calories. I believe by EAS.
