  1. Hi there, I don't really have any suggestions regarding your shape, as I've yet to have surgery. I've had a big butt since I can remember (was called big booty girl in the 5th grade) and the thought of it disappearing is bizarre and I can't even wrap my head around it. We'll see what happens post surgery. I will say that I'm going to be a little sad if it does disappear. In terms of cookouts and your family reunions, I suggest you bring something to the cookout that you can eat and share it with your family. For example I don't eat meat, so when I go to cookouts I bring a few Boca burgers and Portobello mushroom caps to put on the grill. I bring them as part of my contribution to the cookout, and I also have something I can eat. There's always a couple people interested in the Boca burgers and Portobello mushrooms are always a big hit.
  2. Thanks! I was a little shocked to hear about the wait time. But nothing I can do about it, except hope to hear something before the two weeks is up.
  3. Hi all, I was approved yesterday by BCBS, four days total. Not too bad. I don't have a date for sugery yet, I was told there's about 40 other people ahead of me to schedule so it will be about two weeks before I hear about a date.
  4. Yes, I will definitely talk it over with my doc. It's amazing how much you miss it once your away. Namaste!
  5. I was approved today. I'm still stunned. It didn't take long at all, four days total.
  6. Hi Wishes! Thank you for the warm welcome. This board is a great resource and I'm looking forward to chatting with you all in the future. I see you're almost there!
  7. Has anyone practiced Bikram post surgery? If so, how soon after? I started practicing Bikram in October and I've come to enjoy and crave it, for mental and physical reasons. I would like to make it part of my post surgery workout routine. My concern is it's very important to stay hydrated before, during, and after class. Doing 26 postures in a room for 90 minutes at 105 degrees with 50 % humidity can take a lot out of you. Water is essential. I'm worried that it will be awhile before I'm able to consume as much water as I currently do to prepare for class.
  8. Hi all- I'm 26, living in VA , and currently waiting on approval from my insurance company. I called my surgeons office today and the nurse told me they sent my paperwork in for approval last Friday. My mother had RNY Gastric Bypass surgery a couple years ago and she's doing well. I've been thinking about it for the past year but never really pursued it. A couple months ago I had a conversation with a coworker who had lap band surgery last year and she suggested I check out her doctors office. And here I am. I'm nervous and anxious. I look forward to chatting with you all!
  9. Hi all, I'm new this to this board and I'm excited about my possible journey. Right now I'm in the gathering stages of my journey. I found my surgeon through a co worker, but she went through her husbands insurance. I'm 26, 4'11 and have a BMI of 52.1. I went to the info session 6/26, had my consult with the surgeon 6/6, nutrition consult 6/7, psych eval 6/17. I turned in a letter of referral from my PCP, weight history from PCP for the past 3 years, a copy of my weight history from nurses who visit my job once a week, and now I'm waiting to receive a copy of my membership and weekly weigh-ins from Weight Watchers. As far as I can tell my insurance company, Empire BCBS does not require a 3 or 6 month supervised diet prior to approval, however I'm still nervous about being approved. Anyone have any experience with Empire BCBS? How long did it take for you to be approved? thanks!
