    Could use some ideas

I was told not to eat foods with carbs at first. The first two weeks I was on liquids, sugar free Jello, broth, liquid protien, and sf popsicles. The third week I started eating pureed meat and vegetables, greek yogurt, cottage cheese. Remember the amount was 2-3 tablespoons at a time. It was important to keep liquids going in 45-64 ozs. a day. Now that I am out of surgery just about 7 weeks I can eat most things. I have to chew everything to a pureed state but can eat. My capacity has gotten to 1/2+ cups of food. When I am full I have to stop or the next bite makes me very uncomfortable for 20 mins. Hope this helps. Mary:rolleyes: [quote name=narredondo' timestamp='1290987 670' post='95400] Hello, I am new to the group, it is nice to see a group going through some of the same things I am. I was sleeved on Nov 22, 2010 and gosh have I felt horrible. I couldn't keep pains meds down crushed or liquid so I have been so uncomfortable. Anyway I have been better the past three days I started on some mash potatoes and peaches things like that. Are there any other food ideas you guys have? Also I have this stretching pain that is right next to my belly button I am assuming it is my stomach but is it normal? It's not a sharp pain but it is very uncomfortable just thought I someone would know something on it. Thank you guys so much!!

  5. You are correct! "stay off the scale it can be your worse enemy." I found that I can only weigh on Monday or I am obsessed with what I eat everyday. That has really helped me. Mary

Request submitted on 11/9 to UHC....

At my first visit to the surgeon's office I was told that my insurance company had several requirements to have a sleeve done. One was a BMI of over 50. Well here I go mine was 49. The insurance staff at the office called my insurance company and wrote them a letter telling them that if I didn't have it done I would have type 2 diabetes. Also that my BMI would be 50 if we waited another year. She also went into other medical reasons I needed to have it done. You may want to try to have your surgeon's office help you out. They know the ins and outs of the insurance game. Also I send thank you notes to the staff that help me. The nutritionist, doctor, and insurance coordinator. I think the medical field needs to get some positive affirmations once in a while. Mary

    5 week post-op

Hello, I was sleeved on Oct 6th. I will be 6 weeks out tomorrow. I started at 247lbs pre op. Lost 18lbs pre op so I started at 229lbs. I am now at 210lbs so in 6 weeks I have lost 19lbs. Just over 3lbs a week. Total weight loss is 37lbs. I have slowed my weight loss per week so I have to start exercising more. I will get to a healthy weight. Don't be discouraged. Some of the people who have had the sleeve are really lossing fast, me well I'm going like a turtle. Keep the faith. Mary Anne

    Fitness for the unfit

This last Monday I started an aqua body toning class. That was Nov 1st. I had my VSG on Oct 6th. I forgot that I was only three weeks out of surgery. I am a passionate person and didn't miss a beat with the other women in class. Jumping Jacks, rocking horse.., Tuesday I had a side ache most of the day and then thought oh shoot I am only three weeks out from major surgery. I hope that I didn't do anything to my insides. I am fine now and yesterday I went real slow knowing that I am not 25 and don't have to prove anyone to anyone but me. Even though I feel like a milliion bucks I have to be carefull. LOL Mary

    POST-OP DIET HELP!!!

At my one week visit my doctor told me that I could start on baby food. Anything pureed. I asked if I could puree my own food with my food processor. He said that is even better. He doesn't believe in empyt calories in milk based Soups. He said I could go onto mushy and foods that I chewed really well the following week. He then said go slow and try different foods. I have been eating chili, fish, chicken and chewing it very well. I puree beef. I go for my one month post op on Monday. I want to know when I can eat popcorn.... and raw vegetables. Make sure you ask your doctor how he wants you to go forward on your diet. Mary

    The waiting game

YEAH YES Glad to hear you have been approved. I have Medica and had to jump all the hoops for 4 months of nutriionist, Psy eval, informational meeting and meeting to educate patients about the outcome of the surgery, plus BMI over 50 etc. I was approved with a note from the medical insurance specialist at my surgeons office in less than 24 hours. My concern and reason for the sleeve was absorbtion of Vitamins. I had breast cancer in 1990 and if ever another medical scare I woud like to make sure I can absorb what ever I eat or medication I take. You go girl! Time will fly. Mary

    Ghrelin (hunger hormone)

Hello I am three weeks out from my VSG and do not have hunger pains. I have "wants". Like I'm hungry for. My mind hasn't been trained yet. It has been wonderful to finally eat to nourish my body instead of eatting to please an emotion. This will take time but what a wonderful chapter of our lives. Mary

What to expect 3 weeks post op?

So three weeks out. That is me right now! I feel great. I make sure to get my Protein and fluids in. Six days after surgery we had our 4 grandchildren for a week. They went to school during the day however I planned meals before my surgery and my husband was a great deal of help to make sure I didn't over do it. Today we went to the senior pool and started an aqua body toning class. We will do this 3 days a week. Because of the calorie intake Ido get tired out. I am one month short of 62. I have lost pre op 18 lbs and post op 16 total 34 lbs. I am very happy with my results. If I could learn to slow down when I eat... This is very difficult for me. You have to remember that we are all differnt. I would have a plan B for the 10 day visit. Make sure you have meals planned ahead of time and an understanding with your guests that you are recoving from major surgery. Do take care of "you"! Perhaps they could serve you.. Mary

  20. Happy Birthday.... How are you doing? MN Mary

Remember everything is swollen and takes time to heal. Keep us posted. You will be in my prayers. MN Mary

    First postop labwork

Sounds like you are doing great. I wouldn't go back to your OB/GYN. He will never be supportive because "he" didn't tell you to have the surgery and "he" is the doctor. Some docs as we all know think they are "god". We need docs who are supportive! You have done well. My son is a Chiropractor and has me doing Vit. D drops in water or crystal light. I also sit in the sun everyday for 20 to 30 mins. I will be anxious to have my blood work done in two weeks. I feel great. My husband and I are going to start going to the Senior Citizen's Pool 3 times a week next week. Hope this will keep my muscles toned... It will be great to have to go shopping for clothes that are not size 2 or 3X. Be safe, Mary
  24. How are you doing? Have you been sleeved? We go to AZ in Jan-Feb to get out of MN. Hope to talk... Mary
