  1. I am currently in a mutually beneficial situation for stress release and I cannot overstate how incredibly helpful this has been, and, last night I came back to my room and there was a bag of microwave popcorn that I could have made, and I didn't even want it!
  2. I concur Jean. It is a thought provoking article, that is why there have been such excellent responses, pointing out the variety of understandings. I defnitely have found myself, post wls, aware of the times when I have begun to put something in my mouth and realized that what I really wanted was to be with people, participation. Participation I think is a crucial and pivotal word for formerly obese people, participation in the world around us, participation and permission. My favorite part of the day now is when I suit up and hit the weight room, I was so intimidated to go in there at first, for so many reasons, now I know it as a friendly place where I am a part of the group, we recognize each other, spot each other... We were told no, so often and so emphatically, by society that we forgot that the only permission we need is from ourselves.. That was a bit of a tangent, whoops! As for the affection, physical affection, I am way more affectionate with everyone now, I pat backs, forearms, I willingly hug friends, and I also use names more when talking to the person. Perhaps like a dog that only knew cruelty and abuse and at first cringes at the shelter, now through positive reinforcement I am friendlier.
  3. Yes, in theory this is a good article but it absolutely can lead to risky behaviors. Also, it is not much healthier to load our emotional needs onto another person instead of onto a fork. We must find the acceptance and comfort within ourselves, not expect an outside source to fix it, be it arms or food. I have undergone a lot of trauma and loss and terror in the last year and recently found solace in the arms of someone who was there for me when I needed a human most. Unfortunately, I really let my guard down and leaned upon this person too much, and they weren't able to handle it and withdrew their comfort just when I had cracked open the cavern of need.
  4. I did not realize that acid and hernias were linked, I too have a hernia which is about to be repaired, though I think mine is umbilical..
  5. Oregondaisy started following Globetrotter
  6. Righteous! Rad!! Check out my post in the lounge, "giving myself permission".
  7. I am 5'3", 192 lbs. That is, by any measure, still obese.
  8. I was told 4 years ago that I would someday develop Hashimotos, I now exhibit every single symptom of Hashimotos except for the hoarse voice. I am committed and faithful to my fitness and nutrition yet, even though I am still very fat, I haven't lost a pound. I am a research analyst and so of course have done my homework and see that many doctors treat only for T4 deficiency when it is really more complex than that, with T3 needing to be addressed as well. If I were to be treated for my thyroid, would that kick start my weight loss?
  9. Haha, curds and whey! Little Miss Muffet was a sleever!
  10. It's not that the penis is more sensitive with a foreskin, it's that the penis will experience greater depth of sensation ie: a more intense, nuanced world of pleasure. Curcumcision exposes delicate skin to constant abrasion, like an exposed nerve in a tooth ie: overly sensitive verging on painful. Over time the skin can become toughened, like a callus. These are just a few reasons of many why, if I have a son, I won't circumcise.
  11. As I told my boyfriend, if you want to be touched, make yourself touchable. You enjoy touching our smooth skin? Why do you think we wouldn't enjoy the same tactile experience? Besides, more exposed skin means more exposed nerve endings to titillate ...
  12. Are you taking in about 10g per meal, or just in your snacks? 10g x 5 meals is only 50 g's, which is pretty low imo. I like to average about 5-6 meals a day, my snacks and meals are almost identical in size (tiny) so I don't see a difference. I try to make sure that no given snack or meal is less than 15 grams protein or more than 10g carbs. Maybe the biggest difference between a snack and a meal for me is that snacks tend to be pure protein, super low/zero carbs like jerky, protein bullets or shakes, or plain greek yogurt.
  13. I don't know if I'm doing this correctly but I have a blog out there in the interwebs and thought I would try to link it here. Check it out, read my scribbles, fight the good fight! Globetrotter http://enflagrante.wordpress.com/
  14. So the next thing we need to do everybody, is agitate for Starbucks to carry a protein shake! A real one, with low sugars and >10g carbs. The Army version of Starbucks, Green Beans, has one and it is great.
  15. HAHA me too KZ! Or I get a half pump of sf vanilla syrup
  16. Oh honey, I am 2 years post op and a completely normal size for an American woman (10/12) and I STILL have issues with feeling like I should be embarrassed in public for a variety of things, like making special orders or not letting people cut in line! I am totally one of those people @ 'bux now, asking for all the secret off-menu stuff, including the off-menu size "short"! No apologies!!
