  1. I am 5 days post op. I am also having problems with protein. Isopure is horrid, and makes me want to hurl when I taste it. I bought Muscle Milk, and that is a little better but gives me diahreah. So far only getting about 10 grams of protien in a day. But my doctor did not give me restrictions on water intake. In fact, I have caught myself gulping water! (And yes! It hurts sometimes) I am facing "head hunger". I want some refried beans and cheese really bad. I want some potato soup really bad. I still cant stomach a protien shake and I want to eat these things. I also want a mcdonalds hamburger. Just to chew up and spit out, not to swallow. God Im a fat girl at heart
  2. :001_tt2:I am five days post op. I came to Monterray Mexico to have surgery under Dr. Rumbaut. I had a 7 day clear liquid diet to follow. I started this diet weighing 366 lbs. And I am/was/still am/dammit a smoker. I started the diet with a vengence, determined to kick butt and get through these short little seven days of inconvenience. Sounds easy in the scheme of things doesnt it? RIGHT! So Wednesday, thurs, friday, I did great! Was very hungry but the pains were getting easier to endure. Then came the day of the flight...Saturday which was still five days pre op. I got to the airport and started having some anxiety. Did not even make it out of my own city before downing a sandwich. Then got to Mexico and as it turns out they have mucho deliscious food here. So I ate all Saturday night, Sunday, and Monday morning to the point of needing my butt kicked. Started back on liquids after fabulous tamales Monday morning and stayed that way till my pre op appt Teusday. I told the doctor that I had failed miserably, was still smoking, and was worried that he would not do the surgery. He said all of my pre ops looked good and that he did not see any problems. Now this is in Mexico, cash pay, so I dont know about your doctor. I would follow pre op diet to the tee if I were you because the first thing my doctor said to my family after coming out of my surgery was that my liver showed the cheating I had done and while there were no complications, I should have followed my pre op diet better. So dont stress over oatmeal. Start stressing when you are sitting there eating 7 tacos in Mexico smoking cigarrettes drinking dirty martinis like I was. Stupid stupid me....But I made it through ok.
  3. Well dont feel so bad. I am just five days post op (and am miserable on my clear liquids btw) and I super cheated. First off, I weighed 366 before the pre op diet. I went on diet hard core for 3 days. Then had to fly to Mexico. My anxiety was high, I had to pee every 5 minutes, and my family was seriously getting on my nerves. So I told them all to shut up, and I went and had a turkey sandwich. Then proceeded to eat all of the fabulous Mexican food that I could possibly hold the next day in Mexico and did not go on clear liquids until Monday befor my surgery (which was Wednesday). Also, I did attempt to quit smoking, but miserably failed. I am an addict. I have never quit anything that tasted or felt good. This is my major personality flaw. So when I went to my pre op appt with Dr. Rumbaut in Monterray, I was honest and told him that I had been weak to the point of failure and was seriously worried that he would not do surgery on me. But he said that all of my pre op testing was normal and that he was glad I had been honest with him about my weakness. He said it was actually good that I did not try and quit smoking 3 days before surgery because the body would be making more phlegm than if you were smoking. So be honest with your doctor, obviously if we were extremely strong willed people we would not need the sleeve, or a patch for smoking, etc...They know we cheat. Just make sure you dont cheat to the point that the surgeon will not do the surgery. The food was the worst. My liver was not in the shape it should have been, and he told that to my family post op. But I came through the surgery with flying colors and could not have asked for a better experience. So lighten up on yourself.
