  1. I am 3 months out of surgery and I was able to take my pill no problem before and after surgery. My Dr checked me last month and said nothing has changed and to continue taking my little pill... chances are we will always have an under-active thyroid, it's a problem with the gland itsself, and I don't think it's related to our food intake at all... darn it anyway!! LOL

  2. I wanted to say how SUPER YUMMY this pizza is!! I make it a couple of times a month and even my hubby loves it!! I make it with ground turkey, minced garlic and Italian Mrs Dash in the crust, and I use the rest of the ground turkey (scramble fried in a bit of PAM) along with minced mushrooms and red and yellow peppers and then I add some crushed pineapple on top of the light shredded mozza!! SOOOOO DELICIOUS!!

( I did find that my first attempt was quite dry, but when I used the whole little tin of pizza sauce on top of the crust (instead of just a couple of tablespoonfuls) with some light parmesan cheese, it was fantastic!)

Highly recommend this one, and I feel like I'm eating pizza again!!

  3. Hi Sarah!

I was severely fatigued for the first several weeks. I wanted to nap, but like you, work and family demands come first, then finally a chance to rest at about 8pm! After about 4 weeks I noticed it gradually getting better. I'm still tired by the end of the day but I'm up at 5:30, work at my job for 8 hours, and don't get a chance to relax until my 3 year old gets to bed at 8pm. :svengo:

Just keep in mind that your body is healing, and trying to deal with functioning on FAR less fuel than it's used to!! Hang in there, it gets better!:001_smile:

  4. What perfect timing! I was just thinking about posting the same question but I'm only a few days late. I assumed my body was just trying to figure out what the heck I'd done to it. Enjoy it while we can, right?!

Guess what else? I'm two weeks and two days post op and it seems I've hit my first stall! That was NOT going to happen to me!!!! Oh well, just gonna ride it out and not weigh everyday anymore, maybe twice a week until it starts moving again anyway, as it ruins my day. I know I'm getting smaller, I just wish the scale agreed, for once. Hit a brick wall at exactly two weeks out. Perfect.

    Sorry for rambling!

Haha, you're welcome! You're right I AM going to enjoy it while I can!

I hit my first stall at the end of 2 weeks when I started mushies.. it lasted a week and a half and then it started moving again. THEN when I was expecting my period last week it stalled AGAIN for a week, it just started moving again yesterday... I STILL weigh myself every day though. It was TOTALLY frustrating not seeing any progress, but I just kept saying it WILL start up again, it WILL start up again! I figured it took me YEARS to put all this weight on, I should be more patient in trying to get it off!

  5. My cycle was off the first 2 months post-op. It finally regulated to where I can actually chart my ovulation for the last 3 months. Good news is now my cycle is super light, and a day shorter.

It's the hormones throwing everything out of whack.

So Tiffy, did you get it at all during the first 2 months? I sure am looking forward to lighter and a day less!! That's ANOTHER perk to this surgery!!

  6. OK, sorry if this is too much information BUT...

I am almost exactly a month out of surgery... I had my period right before surgery (in fact it finished the day before my surgery) and I was due to have it again last week on Tuesday... it's now more than a week late, and I'M NEVER late! Nope, I'm not pregnant because I was following Dr's orders no sex for 4-5 weeks after surgery... so there's been none of that business going on!!:001_tongue: (my poor hubby!!)

Just wondering if it's my body holding on to everything seeing as I've lost 30 lbs in a month... maybe my body thinks I'm starving and is trying to maintain/hold on to whatever it can??

Any other ladies experience this at all?:blushing:

  7. Thanks BigDD! I think it is a great start too!!

I'm prepared for the stall because I've read so much about it, no worries, I KNOW it will come off after my body says "Hey, I guess she's NOT starving, OK I'll stop holding on to everything now!" :001_tongue:

Uuuum, Nancy.... What chat room??? Hahaha! How can you tell I'm a newbie!!:confused1:

  8. I didn't buy any extra insurance either, I just went with my out of country coverage through my work health care plan... I didn't need to use any of it anyway!

    Good luck on your journey!

I'm 13 days out now and 24 lbs down, it's starting to slow a bit these past couple of days, I feel the dreaded week 3 stall coming on!!!

  9. HI Kai,

I am 13 days out from my sleeve surgery, and I also live in Alberta!

I found IsoFemme chocolate Protein powder at Walmart near the pharmacy area. It has 25g of protien, very low carbs and sugar, low calories and I found it tasted really yummy with skim milk or water! Unfortunately I went to get another container and they were sold out, so I tried costco.

I found one called Kaizen 100% whey isolate, Decadent chocolate. There was also one there (same brand) that was plain, unsweetened and unflavoured. I haven't tried the unflavoured plain one yet to say if it really is flavourless (cuz I just got them yesterday!), but I found the chocolate one to be good! Not QUITE as yummy as the IsoFemme from WalMart, but it'll do!

The Kaizen ones have 35g of protien, 1g of carbs, and 150 cals per serving!

SO there is a suggestion from a fellow Canadian sleever!

Good luck! I too have been struggling to get in enough Water each day and have been feeling tired and weak too. I also bought a bunch more Vitamins yesterday so hopefully in taking those,it will pass for me too!

  10. WOW! I made this Soup last night and it was DELICIOUS!!! And super easy to make too! And my husband loved it too!

I have to admit until last night I have been a hater of the lentils... but these boiled down to the consistency of a pea Soup. Super mushy and delicious! I have to admit that it was SO yummy I ate too much, I think I had a bit more than 1/2 a cup and I was SOOOO full!:blushing:

    Great recipe Mom!:biggrin0:

  11. Hello everyone - this is Jason - Alison's husband. Alison asked me to upload the pictures of her trip to TJ, but I'm not sure where to find them. Oh wait, I just checked and found that if you click on Alison's profile that her photo albums are right there.

She's doing GREAT and she's lost 23 pounds so far! Aside from the fear I felt when she was gone for 6 days, I am very proud of her. She's a tough cookie just like her mom. I know how badly she wants to be able to enjoy life without worrying about health problems or feeling like shes a prisoner to food.

So how did I feel about the whole thing? Well, it was very nerve wracking for me to let her go to Mexico. The 6 days she was gone seemed like forever. The biggest concern was if anything happened I couldn't be there for her. But now she's home and doing well. I'll tell her to get on here soon and keep everyone updated. Have a great night!

  12. Hi Guys!

Well I just came back on Friday from my surgery with Dr Almanza and I had a great experience! The lady who was bashing Dr Betancourt was an extremely negative person who I think expected a day spa type experience when she was down there.

I had researched and used my Mom's (stoongal) experiences to guide my decisions and I was going in with REALISTIC expectations and found that they were met with exactly what I was expecting! except for one thing, the staff was nicer and more sincere and Dr Betancourt was even more wonderful than my mom had described. He is SUCH a nice man, giving hugs and kisses on the cheek every day and night before bed. He is SO passionate about weightloss surgery that it just comes out of every pore! He is compassionate and friendly and HILARIOUS and just wonderful to be around and spend time with. In the evenings he would come over in his Mickey Mouse pajamas and hang with us at the kitchen table in the recovery house and just talk! wonderful man and he made our experience just that much better.

I am doing REALLY well and am AMAZED at how the hunger that I would always feel before the surgery, is gone! It's just GONE! I no longer feel I have to stuff myself, I am content with my 1/2 a cup of broth or yogurt or Protein drink! I cannot believe it, but I really am! In fact last night I had some of my Protein Drink at about 4pm and by 5:30 when my family was eating supper, I felt like I couldn't put any more into me, So i sat with them and watched them eat and I didn't feel like I was missing out at all! It was rather liberating!

AAAanyway, I seem to be losing at a rate of about a pound per day and I expect that to slow at about the 3 week mark as everyone reports there is a stall at that point.

I'll keep you all posted and let you know how things are going!

  13. I saw a commercial the other day with a clear flavorless fiber powder that you can add to your food, or drinks to get your fiber in.. I can't remember the brand, Benefiber maybe?? Gosh, it had a model on the commercial saying that she has a hard time getting all her fiber and this was quick and easy... has anyone tried this at all?

  14. WOW! You ladies have had SUCH success!!! I can't WAIT until I can start my journey! My goal is 150 lbs too and I can't even imagine myself at that weight -let alone that I could be there by sometime next YEAR!!! :w00t:

I'm SO excited by reading all your posts and I'm feeling like there is HOPE! I DON'T have to be this way my entire life! I wish I could get my surgery tomorrow!

Thanks for all the wonderful info, advice, tips and truths I have been reading on these boards... they have helped me in more ways than you know!

  15. My "bedmate" at surgery did noting. Not even one day. She made the decision to just "do it" and she did. I have not heard from her and I wish I would. I do not know how she is fairing. I am really concerned for her. She was still unable to keep anything down on the day we left and she went to the airport.

I do not know if her non-dieting had any bearing on the post surgery results difference we are experiencing. I suspect not. More the physical differences, probably.

Yikes! I hope she is doing OK too! She didn't have a leak did she?? She just couldn't handle the liquids and yogurts etc after surgery? Gosh I hope that doesn't happen to me!! I don't handle coming out of the anesthesia well and ALWAYS feel sick for several hours and typically throw up a few times. I hope that doesn't continue too long afterwards!!! Yikes!!! I have had my gallbladder out and that surgery wasn't too bad, I made it through (as usual with some throwing up) but it stops, and then I feel better! Cross my fingers!!!

  16. HI Lauren!

My Aunt and I are having our sleeves done on January 11, 2010, and my Mom had hers at the end of September 2009!

It's great to see another Canadian girl here! We can share this journey together!

This is a great place to ask your questions and find your answers- it's especially helpful that the people responding are ones who have actually DONE the surgery and have experienced it first hand- it's a fantastic resource for those of us with inquiring minds!!

Where are you going for your surgery with your Mom?

  17. Wow, Norma, thanks for that post! Your words are VERY helpful!!

I too am struggling with trying to change my thought patterns about food and that it's not going to be a "diet" post-surgery, it's going to be a lifestyle change for my health!:biggrin0:

I'm glad to see that this is a NORMAL response and that (it seems like) many of us are trying to rationalize and deal with internally! I haven't gone TOO overboard myself, but I could see myself heading that direction and trying to say goodbye to the foods that I have loved for so long! I know it will be something I will need to work on for a long time I'm sure.

BUT, I'm actually SO looking forward to being able to eat like a bird so that one day I can be a hot chick!! HAHAHA! (Thanks Aunty Linda!):huh0:

  18. AKKKK!! Yeah Tiffy, I know what you mean about the baby food pureed meats!!

My daughter will be 3 , (9 days after my surgery!) and I can still remember the texture and taste of her baby foods that I gave her.. of COURSE I had to taste what I was giving her!! LOL! I tasted everything!

I love the idea of the tuna- I could eat that no problem for quite some time!

    Thanks for the tips Tiff!
