circa got a reaction from TexasDiva in I Find The Operation Stupid
If you're a medical student, why didn't you learn more about the operation? 40 days out is less than 7 weeks. Your stomach isn't even fully healed yet and you're shoving chips and snacks and burgers down it? You of all people should know, nothing happens overnight. If you think the surgery is stupid, perhaps you should have done more research before having the surgery.

Here's the thing - he's never going to understand because he's not walked in your shoes. It would be great if he could accept this and try to help you find a way to come to terms with it.
You are fragile right now - When you are not in a situation where a decision is being made or something needs to be done, maybe you can bring up the subject and explain to him the kind of support you need from him.
You do a lot as his wife to support him - perhaps making that clear to him will bring him around.
As far as his parents and the superbowl - invite them - and only serve healthy foods. New year - new you - they don't like it? Too bad!

I knew I was going to be on the slower side of losing until other issues were dealt with. Now I'm hoping it speeds up. I haven't done all _that_ bad. I mean, I've lost more weight than I would have without the sleeve.. I'm a month out and I've lost 22 lbs since my surgery date. That's 5.5 pounds per week. I'd love for it to be way more, but its just not. I know I need to exercise more and that will happen. The small setback with my incisions did inhibit that a bit. Because I was doing too much, I had to back off - so the only exercise I have been doing has been walking. I need to up that - and a lot. So here goes!

I'm concerned that people automatically blame the surgeon. My mother in law had a bypass and lost her weight and has gained it back - not because the surgeon failed, but she refuses to eat correctly. I am NOT saying that this is the case with this person, however, once again, the sleeve is not a guarantee There was weightloss, which means there was restriction. Is there no longer restriction? Have you had an xray to see if your stomach is stretched?
Have you followed a low calorie diet? Have you been exercising?
This is not necessarily the surgeon's fault or the patients. Sometimes the body chemistry is such that this procedure does not work - just like other procedures. But this does not mean that any person is at fault.
I know that the person that's in this situation is upset, I would be too. However, just blaming someone whose work was basically done when you left the hospital and you did have weight loss isn't a good idea in my opinion. You don't have to like my opinion, but I think its worth listening to. Again, I never said it was the poster's fault - but its something to reflect on - are you following a proper diet? If you are, then you might want to see an endocrinologist to find out if there's something else going on - you might have a severe thyroid issue going on that is affecting you. It might not be a problem with the sleeve at all.

Absolutely wonderful attitude to have!! I don't know why we have for so long let a piece of equipment run by a three dollar battery dictate our worth and happiness! I weigh myself every 3 weeks if I remember to do so. I think the stress of weighing every day actually can cause you to not lose weight.

I was slow to start at first too - Its been 3 months and I've lost 50 lbs since surgery, 72 lbs overall. About the 6 week mark is when it kicked in for me. Yeah, I've lost the majority of that in the last 6 weeks. Hang in there - your body will figure it out. Just try to keep your mind from overruling your body.

circa got a reaction from Kthump in Calling All 3 Month-Ers! How Are Things Going?
I'm right about at the 3 month mark. I don't know how much I have lost - I haven't weighed myself in over 3 weeks. I only weighed myself 3 weeks ago because i just got back from a 3 week long trip and wanted to see where I was. I've gone down a couple car sizes, moved the steering wheel all the way down in the car, can sit in booths at restaurants more than comforably, haven't found a chair I don't fit in, feel great and have been eating well. Energy is growing, skin is clearing up, periods are seeming to be regulating (which is AMAZING) I know that since I've started my preop I'm down at least 60 lbs and that was January 18th. So yeah - I'm kicking ass. I would love to have lost more weight but I haven't really worked out much - but I'm cleared to do that starting monday and just had tv installed in the workout room in the basement so ZERO excuses!
I have had zero complications - I have never thrown up. I only slimed once but that was because I sneezed and swallowed too big a bite once. I get my liquids in and eat 3 meals a day and 2 Snacks. I feel better than I have in YEARS. I haven't had an adrenal attack since before surgery - and that's amazing - I was having them about every 2 weeks or more frequent before. This has changed my life back to being worth living again

really for me just a couple days - after that the only time I would feel sore was sitting up from laying down - and that just felt like I did too many sit ups. I had probably the easiest recovery of any surgery ever for anyone on the planet though I think. I kept waiting for something to go wrong, it was really that easy. I'm 3 months out and ZERO issues. Hope you have the same result!

circa reacted to TheRealMeIsHere! in Ruby Tuesday
I just have to tell everyone about the wonderful experience I had today. While shopping for dresses for my sister's wedding, we stopped at Ruby Tuesday for lunch. When I was there 2 weeks ago, my sister ordered an appetizer, salad bar and dinner. I, HAPPILY, enjoyed the salad bar, slowly so as not to finish quickly and end up rushing my sister. Their salad bar is SOOO Yummy! This time, I explained to the waitress, that I had surgery and my stomach is now very small. I asked. if I get the crab cake appetizer, can I get salad bar for $2.99 as if I ordered it with an entree. She had no problem with it. I love understanding people. So I nibbled on the salad, and ate 1/2 a crab cake. DELISH!!
BTW their crab cakes are not real bready.

I have had bizarre periods for the last 5 years - they're finally starting to regulate since surgery. I thought about mirena or something else for birth control - I can get pregnant, but I can't carry a baby to full term due to other medical conditions so even without surgery, a proper method of birth control is necessary - so to be smart, my hubby has decided he'll "retire the swim team" What a trooper!

So, I've been gone a while - a work trip had me pretty MIA, and work has been very busy since I got back as well.
    1. The towe I use for the hot tub fits all the way around me and then some now YAY!
    2. I can have the steering wheel all the way down when I'm driving and don't have to move it to get in and out of the car either
    3. Clothing sizes have definitely changed
    4. I sat in a booth at a restaurant after much anxiety, it was no problem - in fact, I had to scoot forward a bit in the booth to eat.
    5. I got my wedding ring on and off my finger I had it cut off about a year and a half ago to have surgery for breast tumors and haven't even tried it on since. Its on now Now i have to get the cut in it fixed
I haven't been weighing myself - I pretty much forgot I have a scale. I have to start being more active - working out has not occurred like I have wanted it to - but that's going to change ASAP. While I was in texas for work, I walked everywhere but here, I haven't been doing as much and I NEED to.
I lost 10 lbs while i was off on my work trip for 3 weeks - not too bad

take a deep breath and remember, you are NOT horrible. None of us are horrible. You just have to get back to working your sleeve. What everyone says is right. Try LilMissDiva's basics boot camp plan thingy - and make sure you're always eating your Proteins first, veggies second, cards last. That Protein will fill you up fast.
Next, ask yourself why you have gone off your plan. Is there something that you're trying to avoid? Get right with yourself and things will fall into place. Maybe you're not quite ready to have kids yet. Maybe you want to enjoy your new body for a while. You're YOUNG and have plenty of time! Just be honest with yourself if that is it and be honest with your husband as well. Take the time to figure out what's going on with you. You're worth it
