  1. Older people don't like change - and they certainly don't approve of going under the knife when its not something heart related I've found. Chalk it up to them being afraid and not understanding.
  2. this is typically what the preop diet is for. You may have to do it longer - your surgeon will let you know. That is quite high - but it can be caused by a number of different things. Please follow the preop diet and talk directly with your surgeon about this. Good luck to you!
  3. I think setting hard and fast goals can be self-defeating. What is your reaction going to be if you don't lose that much each month? What happens when August 21st comes around and you're still 25 or 30 lbs or more - or even less from that goal? Its important to set goals, but make them definitely reachable. Sure, its great to have something to work toward, but don't make it something that may work against you.

always weigh in the AM, after you go to the bathroom and before you drink anything - however, remember, a woman's body weight can change from day to day by around 9 lbs just based on water retention. Muscle mass the same size as a fat mass does weigh more. 10 lbs of fat takes up more room than 10 lbs of muscle. Don't weigh every day. I'm pushing myself to actually do away with my scale for the first month. Its hard, but that's what I'm wanting to do!
  5. I am concerned about the lack of hydration, especially since I live at a higher altitude. @Anakin Jay - put some socks on! You've worked very very hard for this!!!! Thinking of you!!!!
  6. Frankly, that's just how some people are. They settle for less than what they really want because its easier. She's healthier than she was and that's apparently ok for her. There are those of us who don't settle for walking a little ways in a marathon - we want to cross the finish line with flying colors. This woman has become complacent in her life, just as she probably did when she gained the weight. We all choose how we react to situations. She has chosen to limit herself. It is irritating because so many of us have jumped through so many flaming hoops just to get to the point where we can have surgery, we're not going to waste the opportunity that we've EARNED for ourselves. But it is her problem, not yours. You can't help those that don't want to be helped and you can't enlighten those that choose to stick their heads in the sand. I hope that you someday go back to that office for a followup and you're at your goal and you see her again and then you can say to her that YES, you can meet a goal like that! Good luck!
  7. yay! awesome news! So very happy for you!
  8. first of all, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope everyone is okay. But only you can answer that - are there other people that can help you take care of these issues? If you don't feel comfortable, push the surgery back. Peace of mind will be worth the time.
  9. I simply LOVE this idea! This will be great especially for lunch while at work!
  10. Your body is missing several things, especially in the early phases - protein can make up for what you're missing. Protein is the purest and best form of nutrition - its the basis for what our body needs. It ensures that your essential body functions continue. The reason why you need "so much" is because it is the main nutrient your body gets and it just simply needs a lot of it. Not eating enough of it means that your critical needs may be met, but being short every day on what your body needs means that your skin won't heal as well, your hair can fall out, you can be fatigued, among other things.
  11. Its amazing at how different NUT's plans are. I actually went to one that suggested eating more whole grains and then vegetables and proteins - because of the old food pyramid. I got up and walked out. I don't think eating a half a piece of toast if it sits well with you after a few weeks will ruin your sleeve, its just amazing that it IS sitting well I would try to avoid, as that bread is taking up valuable protein real-estate in your sleeve
  12. yes. I think you were extremely rude and unhelpful. Just because you have the account, doesn't mean you have to use it.
  13. For someone that's leaving, you sure do post a lot. Either leave or don't - no one is going to beg you to stay here when you're as rude as you have been.
  14. the reason some posts are "quoted" is to ensure that the proper post is recognized as being replied to. There's a purpose for the quote button, and that would be it
  15. just eating a banana won't make them disappear, if you have a potassium defficiency, it will take a lot more than a banana to get rid of cramps. have the doc check your levels and continue to take potassium!
  16. There really doesn't seem to be anything in your story that hasn't been told here before - was there a certain thing that you were extremely displeased with that was medically relevant? Thanks!
  17. Sorry that you're finding this so rough, however, it was the diet coke, bread, yummy food that led you to this. I don't think anyone has ever said it was going to be easy. Its not the easy way out. I don't know if you'll ever be happy with your sleeve as long as the food still controls you - this time from across the table. If you took the extra large step of getting a sleeve, then the extra dilligence was necessary. I sincerely hope that things change for you - it stinks to feel like you can't enjoy life. But everything in your post was encumbered by your attachment to food. Maybe resolving this will bring around a better overall situation with the sleeve. If bland foods are making you sick, have you consulted your doctor to find out why? There may be something as simple as an acid reducer or change in acid reducer that could change everything. good luck with it!
  18. I think people need to talk about their personal bad experiences. However, I heard from a friend about a friend of their friend who knew this guy, who said that they knew someone is NOT an experience. Its a load of crap. So let's keep the crap to a minimum, shall we?
  19. Really? You KNOW this? I'd like to know how you KNOW this. Did you have surgery there? Did someone you actually physically know have surgery there? Yeah. I thought not. If you're going to post something negative about a doctor, be able to back it up with actual facts. This board is for people to find out facts about doctors, not to play a middle school game of telephone to spread rumors.
  20. for those wondering, you can buy hibiclens at Walgreens and even at Target.

I think people are reading the statement "WLS doesn't work" and getting riled up. They aren't comprehending the statement that occurs afterwards. Basically, I took it as him saying that this isn't magic. You have to WORK the tool. A hammer doesn't build a house, but it sure makes the job easier. I think you may have found a no-nonsense person that's going to tell you what you need to hear, not what you want to hear.
  22. Congrats, fellow Sooner! Can't wait to be on the losers bench with you!
  23. I battle mine every day. Your thyroid directly controls your metabolism. Its going to take a bit for your body to regulate. Just remember, those are NOT your pounds, they're your thyroid's. Do what you KNOW is right and let your doctor know what's going on. Be vigilant with your doctor - they sometimes get complacent because its not their body and its normal for weight to fluctuate. Don't let them be complacent. This isn't normal for you.
  24. I always eat before I bake - then i don't have any interest in eating it. Have you tried going to work out before you go to work? Congrats on your success! You've done amazingly!
