  1. circa posted a blog entry in I'm in control now.
I'm one day post-op and I feel like a million bucks. I'm sore of course, but I haven't taken any pain medicine all day - I figure if my menstrual cramps were this bad, I wouldn't take pain meds for them, so why for this? All in all, I feel pretty good - its hard to get comfortable for me because i'm a stomach sleeper - well - at least I won't be for a while. We checked in at the hotel and its a beautiful room - just kinda haning out - hubby is snoozing - I took a little nap. Time seems to crawl by - I have to be back at the clinic for a checkup at 5- they come to get us. I swear if the peope at the clinc were any nicer, they'd melt in the rain like sugar. I can't get over how they are so genuinely sweet. They don't condescend to you, they don't forget about you. They're really there to take care of you. I'm now to the point where I can sip water, but I still feel pretty hydrated from the iv's. I cannot wait to take a shower. Hopefully that will be tonite. I'm still a little gassy, but nothing spectacular. I'm hoping to sleep through the night, but don't have any expectations to. Again, that's just me - I'm an insomniac. Oh - and everyone at the clinic is just gorgeous. Inside and out.
  2. any setback is disappointing - you psyche yourself up for a certain goal and then it feels like someone pulls a rug out from under your feet - but it WILL happen. Trust me. Take it from someone that has had several surgery dates only to have something happen through no fault of my own and have my surgery CANCELLED. A week more to get yourself ready - not so bad. I'm now sleeved and so very relieved and happy
  3. done deal! whose next????/
  4. I brought my husband with me but the 2 other ladies that were there with me (the other patient that day was from Mexico) came alone - there's so much support there from the staff, you're never really alone. They'll treat you like family and make you feel welcome. I got more hugs there than I did at my own family reunion.
  5. ts actually quite lovely. Everyone there is super nice and sweet - and not that you're really gonna be interested but some of the ladies might be - there's male eye candy EVERYWHERE! Lupita the iv nurse is great - she's small enough to fit in your pocket - almost literally -I have horrendus veins because of all the IV's I had to have for my other medical issues - she did great. Tried one arm it wasn't a go - got the other arm right away - I'm the only person she had to stick more than once. Everything is clean and proper clean practices are used. Itt can be a little noisy at times, but that happens anywhere. My husband was treated (as were the rest of us) like members of the family. We stopped by the recovery house to drop people off and its fantastic - we chose to stay at the hotel which is quite lovely - hubby says the food is amazing and they've got popsicles for me and broth too Can't wait till I can have some broth I never felt uneasy or concerned about anything. I may not work in the medical field, but my sister is a nurse, my step mother is a hosptail department administrator - I was an EMT2 and did distaster relief. Plenty of medical experience being around it enough and I was completely satisfied.
  6. Been walking and walking- gas pain sucks but isn't over the top. Just having trouble sleeping- that's kinda normal for me anyway
  7. I'm sleeves! Still groggy and have gas pain but it's not terrible. Little nauseous from anesthesia but so far so good. - been up walking several times
  8. I'm here in San Diego. I eventful flight - however, I did buy the "extra seat for a person of size" and of course I didn't need the damn thing, I fit in the seat just fine. They said they would refund me so I'm cool with it. So a little victory there I. Itself. I havent flown since before I got sick - so I just didn't know. I was shocked that I did fit in the seat, armrest down, etc because so many standard seats are tough to take. Anyway - I can't sleep. I'm nervous.... I keep running through my mind and wondering what I'm doing here!?!? Guess its just some last minute jitters and the hunger talking. Knowing that I'm a high BMI and knowing that puts me toward the end of the day sucks too, but it is what it is... End result is my health and happiness. It's just hard to be in San Diego, where one of my oldest friends lives- I didn't know how I was going to handle being so close to him and not seeing him- it's been since 1999 since I have seen him.... But he and his wife are up in the bay area visiting a couple other friends of ours so it's like it was meant to be! Hubby is snoring away in the bed next to me. I'd like to sleep but it just doesnt wanna happen. I wanna get up early, get a shower and go put my feet in the ocean for a minute. Then I will head for the airport and continue on my journey. I hate this no water after midnight thing - it sucks.
  9. amazing! congrats! I'll be thinking of you tomorrow! Good luck!
  10. Will do! I've been practicing sipping instead of gulping all week! Even sipping my broth! I walk a lot so that's not a problem! I will definitely rest - and I'm already dancing Thanks! I will check in as soon as I can!
  11. I leave tonite for San Diego! Can't wait to get the ball rolling! I'm so excited! Surgery is tomorrow! I'm going to try to find out how many surgeries there are tomorrow to see what I'm looking at for a wait. Not that I can do anything about it, just easier to prepare for it Talk to you guys soon from the losers bench!
  12. Yay!!!! congrats! Move over baby, I'm next!!!! Tomorrow is my day!!!!
  13. My hubby is going with me
  14. You do what makes sense for you! We will be here to cheer you on when your new day comes! Take care of yourself and let us know if we can help!
  15. Today was my birthday - in 36 years old and 2 days away from the second biggest life changer so far. The first was getting sick. This one though, will change my life for the better. It's actually going to give me back what I desperately want - my health. I leave tomorrow for San Diego. Looking forward to just getting the ball rolling more smoothly down the hill. I don't know how many others are having surgery that day, other than one person I met here! I'm sure I'll be last, or close to last, as I have a very high BMI- and that's ok - I'm prepared for that. Wouldnt mind being first tho - but I'll wait my turn
  16. Beautiful post. You're right - a food addiction is tough- you can't quit "cold turkey" because you need food to live - you don't need alcohol or drugs or other things people get addicted to in order to live. You can't just remove the temptation, you have to beat it. Congrats to everyone that continues the battle against food addiction and wakes up the next day to fight it again!
  17. A FULL thyroid panel. Not just TSH, but free T3 and free T4 as well. Most docs do not check these as a standard.
  18. have you checked to see if your insurance will pay for a second bariatric surgery? Many only allow one in a lifetime, even if its with another provider. Hope yours sees that yours is necessary!
  19. try drinking your liquids warm - see if that cuts down on it?
  20. ^ | What he said! Great advice!
  21. You took the words right outta my mouth! Its about control. We're doing this to gain control! Forbidding something just makes you want it more. What will limit us on what types of food we can eat when we are fully healed is what our new bananas can handle. Pre-op, I love onions but raw onions do not like me back. I can't eat them - I get horrible stomach pains and nausea. So I don't eat them. It'll be the same after surgery - whatever doesn't love me, I just won't eat. Whatever does love me, I will eat within accpetable amounts and portions.
  22. I imagine you can! Stay safe and keep us updated that you're safe!
  23. The tegaderm bandages are a godsend if you want to shower, but horrible to remove. Its not painful to remove them, but because its attached to the skin completely, it can tug at nerve endings and cause some nausea. Best idea is to take it off in the shower, sitting if at all possible when you're allowed to
