So i have posted a few posts but really enjoy reading everyones story so I thought I would share mine. For as long as I can remember I have always been the chubby one. In elementary scool, middle school and high school......until one day I was walking down the hall and a male friend came up to me and said " girl, i saw this nice but and didnt know who it belonged to...boy are you losing weight, you look good"
I wasnt even trying or realizing I lost weight. Ended up being a great yeat, got asked to the prom looked fantastic!!! This was my senior year.
So then the years to follow going away to school I gained 50 pounds back. Back to being the chubby one.
After school, I met my husband and started to lose weight again. By the time we got married I was 175 pounds and thought i looked amazing. went to jamaica for honeymoon and wore 2 piece bathing suits!
THen came the children.......with my daughter I only gained 20 pounds but my son didnt hold back. I gained 50 pounds with him....then i kept gaining to my all time high of 288. YUCK!
Had been talking many months to my pcp about bypass---this was her suggestion and I said no way. I work in the health profession and saw nightmares with people who have had complictiaons.
Agreed on the band---saw surgeon in January- had to go to classes for 6 months, then psych eval and meet with nutritionist. then it only took the insurance 1 week to approve!
Set up day for Oct 14th weighing in at a whopping 286. It is now 15 days post op and I have lost 22 pounds!!!! Yeah for me.
I do have a pretty big hematoma around the incision where my port is. Surgeon said she does not want to stick needle in, it will go away by itself....
so here is my story....sorry if i bored you.....

i betcha a million that she is the one in the fast lane being the speed police. but as parents we have a choice. don't take your children to her house. i remember my mom when the church asked all members to put religious tracks in bags instead of candy. my mom refused. she said that halloween and every other holiday is a chance to Celebrate and have fun and we have so little time for fun. i love my mom. she is a very wise woman.

If this woman gave a note like that to one of my kids (hypothetically, both my kids are skinny) I'd go back and knock the b*tch out. No joke.

As a NICU RN it's hard to endorse the concept.
However, I am also anti-government... which just means I need to buy and govern my own damn island and all will be right again

Well, if we don't watch out, the government will begin to regulate that, too!!

Can't agree on the should we be eating candy bit (snicker) but this woman is the classic discriminator. Uneducated and ineffective.
When we talk about obese children, my heart just pours out to them. That was me 30 years ago. An adult has some audacity to make a child feel badly about their health/appearance, when in reality, it's the f'in parents who are being negligent.
I could remember as early as elementary school learning about healthy eating & need for regular exercise. But if that is not reinforced in the home and if it is not modeled by your parents, it's a lost cause. Multiply that with years of poor eating habits and you got a classic obese case. And than society turns around and says if you want to lose weight just stop eating, or eat less, or make better choices. That's like telling society hey if you want to get ahead learn to write with your left hand when you've been writing w/ your right all these years. Technically you can do it, but it doesn't come natural, there's little gratification and in the end it's just easier to write with your right hand.
Terrorizing kids is not addressing the epidemic. Education, reinforcement and accountability are the only measures that can address the matter. It's a cultural thing now in our society..being one of the heftiest countries in the world. Address society not a child.

i am truly sorry you had a bad experience. my main goal as with most of the ppl on here is to be supportive and educational. please don't hold 1 persons bad manners against this web site. it is a great web site. you will learn a great deal from the ppl here that are on different levels of band life. i promise you will be supported.

Well, I think it has finally happened but I'm not sure.
I'm at a travel convention and normally I can eat whatever I want but am careful of my calorie count. So, normally, I still may feel a little hungry and have to play a head game to tell me I've had enough. Well, two days in a row I have literally had to stop eating after a few bites of food. I feel if I take another bite I'll get sick or stuck. This has happened for two days in a row and I'm not hungry! That's a good thing right?
For all you newbies it does not happen overnight.
I was banded 12/28/12. I have had 8 fills (my doctor is very conservative with his fills). Anyway, I'm hoping this is the green zone because I can honestly say now that about 1/2 to 3/4 cup of food literally fills me up now. I was actually wasting food and that never used to happen. I love it! I love my band but I love the fact that I was patient and it didn't happen overnight. I had a good mental attitude pre-band and made my mind up that it would not happen overnight and that I would be patient with a positive mental attitude! Wishing everyone well on their band journey and to please be patient. It will happen!

Sadly people weren't paying attention all along.. This was the biggest line of bull ever and the people who follow blindly are in for a rude awakening... unfortunately the rest of us have to suffer along with them...

Believe me, I'm seeing it with my insurance. My premiums didn't go up much, but my copays, dedudctables and out of pocket shot through the roof. People were warned that this would happen. I know some people who think they are pretty intelligent and argued like crazy for this thing. Now all I hear from them is complaining or they sit back and say absolutely nothing. Sometimes I think those people deserve what they get. Problem is, we all have to chew on this one.

It's unfortunate so many people have drunk the Obamacare kool aid and refuse to see the facts.
