  1. About 25 pounds of it came off in the 2 months of SWL that I had to do before my surgery, but I was busting my butt while I was going through it. Wife and I were at the gym probably 4 nights a week and everything I ate went into myfitnesspal (overstimated calories in, underestimated calories burned) and was getting close to my 10,000 steps / day goal most days. The weather we've had this winter has kept us in and I haven't been as good about logging my food in myitnesspal. I've been doing better with logging my food this last week or so since my last adjustment, but we I haven't been making it to the gym or using our treadmill nearly as much as I should. Hopefully the weather will get nicer sometime soon so the wife and I will want to go out to the gym at night instead of curling up under the blankets and watching Netflix. I know I'm going to hit a point soon where the weight isn't going to come off nearly as easily.
  2. Yep, I have definite morning tightness. I have to wait about 2 hours after waking up before I can take my morning meds, and a while longer before I am able to eat even a few ounces of food. Usually by the time I am up around 3 hours or so I am back to normal.

October Bandsters- How The Heck Are Ya?

My wife and I had our surgeries on 10/24 and we're both doing pretty good. I had absolutely no problems with the surgery, and only minor soreness for a couple of days afterwards. My wife still has some soreness on her right side near where the port is located but it's almost back to normal and in a few days should be gone. We are still on the post-op diet and won't be back on regular food until Sunday (I believe), but we have our first post-op appointment with the surgeon on Monday, and I already know I need a fill as I am typically hungry again in about 2 hours after eating, but my wife is hardly ever hungry. So far she has lost 10 - 12 pounds, and I have lost around 16-18 (I forgot to take my BP meds the last day we weighed ourselves, so it may be more).

    Fitbit

I love my flex. I would always be forgetting it if it weren't attached to me. My wife liked it so much she had to go out the next day and get herself one.

    I've been approved!!!!

Got the date for my surgery late yesterday. I'll be banded on 10/24. Having a date I great and exciting, but makes it a bit scary. Does that make sense to anyone?

    Fitbit

I think it depends on the model. The fitbit flex can go up to 10 meters deep for 30 minutes I believe. only had mine a few weeks and haven't gone swimming yet.

    I've been approved!!!!

Just got the call that I have been approved by my insurance company. Originally they had said that I was going to need to do six months of supervised weight loss to get approved, but they approved me after 2-1/2 or 3 months (forget the exact date we started). I've given them a set of dates that fits into my work schedule, and I should hopefully have my date later today or tomorrow. The only bummer is that my wife hasn't been approved yet. The insurance coordinator at our surgeons office is still working on her case and said that it may be one of those situations where one spouse is approved early and the other has to do the full six months (sounds odd to me but she said that is more common than I'd think).

    Hi!

Just thought I would give an update on our progress. We have had all of our consultations, and were ready to go ahead with everything when our insurance company reversed course and said that we were going to have to go through the 6-month supervised weight loss. This is despite our plan booklet not mentioning it in the requirements, and being told that it wasn't required when both our surgeon's office, and I called in (separately). Our surgeon's office is going to call back in and try to find out why we are being told one thing when we call in, and then getting letters saying that it is. I've read other people's stories about their insurance company doing things like this. I just hoped ours was going to be different since they have been great for just about everything else.
  9. Hi, everyone! I am so happy to have found this forum. In doing my research on the surgery so much of the information was posted by, or written describing things from a woman's perspective (not that it's a bad thing). It's just that weight loss is different for men and women and I'm excited to see what other men's experiences were like going through the process.

    Hi!

Hi, everyone. I'm a noob here, and found this site while I was doing some research on what my first year after surgery will be like. My wife and I were both just approved to have surgery (first try, yes!!!!!) and we have our consults with the surgeon, dietician, and psych evaluation coming up over the next couple of weeks. Once those are done, we will be able to schedule our surgery. I'm so excited about being approved... I had been approved for the RNY surgery at one time but I gave up on it when my insurance company (at that time) started changing the requirements every time I got close to meeting them (that was years ago before I had ever heard of lap band surgery). My surgeon will be Dr. McEwen with Community Bariatric in Indianapolis, IN. Also, My wife and I are considering do a video diary of our experiences as we go through the process. If we do, I'll post links to new videos as they are available.
