Hi!

Hi, everyone. I'm a noob here, and found this site while I was doing some research on what my first year after surgery will be like.

My wife and I were both just approved to have surgery (first try, yes!!!!!) and we have our consults with the surgeon, dietician, and psych evaluation coming up over the next couple of weeks. Once those are done, we will be able to schedule our surgery.

I'm so excited about being approved... I had been approved for the RNY surgery at one time but I gave up on it when my insurance company (at that time) started changing the requirements every time I got close to meeting them (that was years ago before I had ever heard of lap band surgery).

My surgeon will be Dr. McEwen with Community Bariatric in Indianapolis, IN.

Also, My wife and I are considering do a video diary of our experiences as we go through the process. If we do, I'll post links to new videos as they are available.

Hi im new on this as well. My surgury is in sept. Im really excited and am looking for someone to go thru this journey with.

East - though my insurance company approved the RNY for me, I chickened out about 10 days prior to my surgery date. It's so drastic, and I was afraid of messing around with a digestive system that God intended. I'm not religious; just afraid of malabsorption, and making changes that aren't reversible.

That being said, I settled on the lap band plus plication, and so far I'm THRILLED. I sleep much better every night, knowing that I haven't made permanent changes to a perfectly working system.

Good for you and your wife! I look forward the posts on your progress :)

How exciting to go through this together with your wife! I'm sure you will be a great support system for each other! Good luck!

Just thought I would give an update on our progress. We have had all of our consultations, and were ready to go ahead with everything when our insurance company reversed course and said that we were going to have to go through the 6-month supervised weight loss. This is despite our plan booklet not mentioning it in the requirements, and being told that it wasn't required when both our surgeon's office, and I called in (separately). Our surgeon's office is going to call back in and try to find out why we are being told one thing when we call in, and then getting letters saying that it is.

I've read other people's stories about their insurance company doing things like this. I just hoped ours was going to be different since they have been great for just about everything else.
