Training for STRENGTH without going to the gym-OPTIONS?
check out Les Mills' Pump. it's available now on dvd and comes with weights, about $200 all together i think. i used to take these classes at the gym. they are high quality, with great music, and work the whole body smartly and i found it fun.

Drinking Alcohol... It's not worth it!
i'm with @mrshawk92. munchies never been a problem here. alcohol isn't worth the calories to me and i usually avoid it, maybe 2 or 3 drinks/month... and i intend to continue doing so after surgery, but i do love a good glass of wine or a finely crafted beer. and kahlua. mmmmmmm!

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
@@Kathy812, i have been using a CPAP to sleep for about 7 years. it takes some getting used to, but it is worth it, i sleep so very much better with it that i actually can't sleep without it now! be patient, and if the mask is at all uncomfortable, call them and try another one. several people i know, myself included, have tried at least 3 different masks before finding the one that works best for them. there are so so many different models and brands, there will be one that you can tolerate and learn to love. that's my best advice. it took me about 2 months to get it right, so be patient.

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
@@Jen - a work in progress I suck at food logs too! and i know from experience that they really do help. that doesn't make me do it though. it's the stupidest thing, isn't it? it's so easy to do, and makes success so much easier... but hey, if we could have done it, we wouldn't be here now, right? i am getting nervous as September moves along and i don't have a surgery date scheduled. i've been hoping/expecting October all along. i have my last pre-op tests tuesday 9/16 (endoscopy and colonoscopy), and my last weigh in the week after on 9/23. i expect they will submit me to insurance at that time. fingers crossed!

2014 October Surgery
hi all! i have my endoscopy and colonoscopy scheduled for next tuesday, which is my last pre-op test! woohoo! i have my last weigh in the week after, on 9/23. i haven't lost as much as they (surgeon's office) wanted me to, so i'm a little nervous about how they will handle that. they weren't very warm and fuzzy when i went in for my last one and stayed the same weight. (i lost 6 lbs the first month.) they bummed me out so much, i called the insurance company and found out that THEIR only requirement is that i don't GAIN weight during the three month period. so, i can't imagine the surgeon will actually turn me down. i'm trying as hard as i can to be good, and hope to show a few more pounds down. my head is totally into this, i can't focus on anything else. october is going to rock this year! it's my birthday month, and this year it will be my RE-birthday month.

One (1) Pound Away from 50!

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
I am so jealous of all of you that have your dates already! I have my enscopy scheduled ofr 9/16, and my last weighin on 9/23. I am worried because they told me I had to lose 14 lbs, but I've only lost 8 so far. I called my insurance company, and they told me that the only requirement THEY have is that I don't gain weight before surgery. I guess the 14 lbs is my doc's requirement. I'm hoping very much that they are lenient in this. I am really doing my best, and will be crushed if they push me off another month. I expect to be sleeved in October, it's my birthday present to myself (I'll be 57 on 10/10). I'm currently living in MD (for the last 5 years), but spent the 20 before that in Monmouth County, NJ, and the 30 before that in Brooklyn, NY.

Depression after surgery?
Lizzy, I agree that seeing a therapist and determining if you need a prescription or some talk therapy is a great idea. Just to let you know, I have read some posts on here that said there is a lot of hormonal stuff that goes on while you are losing weight. So know that this will pass, and deal with it appropriately right now... it's just another way of taking care of yourself, like having this surgery was.

Packing for hospital?!
wow, i wish i could get 3 - 5 days in the hospital with others taking care of me! my surgeon only has us for one overnight stay. GOOD LUCK!!!!

Surgeon's office meltdown ahead of Monday VSG surgery. What to do?
I would go through with it. My feelings are that if something is meant to happen, it happens. If you showed up at the hospital and the surgeon didn't and they cancelled you, then to me that's a sign it wasn't meant to be. Since everything seems to be getting settled, I would take a deep breath, accept that mistakes do happen and that this is only a clerical one, not a life-threatening one. I totally get where you are, though. It would drive me crazy to have that happen. I hope you have a calm surgery day and a quick recovery.

Angry, embarrassed, worried after second weigh-in
@@Jersrose43, I LOVE YOU!!! thank you for giving me the impetus to call the insurance company. they forwarded me their paper on requirements, and i just read it, and it says "patient must not show a net gain in weight". period!!! so the 14lbs is strictly my doctor's requirement? recommendation? i don't know. but i do feel so much better knowing this!

Newbie looking for Oct sleevers!
