  1. @@natalie_christin, i am so sorry you are in pain. That makes everything you try to do harder, doesn't it? I don't have any magic bullets for you, but here is my suggestion: pick ONE BEHAVIOR that you can change now that will put you back on your path. Maybe it will be tracking your food intake on something like My Fitness Pal, or maybe drinking more Water, or maybe getting a pedometer and counting the steps you take around the house and gradually adding like 10 or 50 more each day. Any of these things will make a difference. Maybe there's something else you can think of. And, congratulations on coming back to the forums and looking for help. Keep on reading and interacting, and you will get back on the ball as you realize we're all going through things... maybe not exactly the same combination of stressors that you have, but we all have things. It helps to know you're not alone, and it helps to hear other people's thoughts.
  2. @@Peekboo, go get 'em! good luck and speedy recovery to all who are getting sleeved today.
  3. @@Dana825, good luck! hope to hear from you later with good news.
  4. @@BeagleLover, that's the first I've heard about asking the doctor to remove the gas! I'm so going to ask my surgeon to do that! Thanks for sharing. If they can do that, why in the world don't they automatically do that as part of the procedure, knowing how awful the gas pain is for most people afterwards? sheesh!
  5. I'm wondering if these people know that you had surgery? If they don't, then they may be holding back because of past experiences... I know in my family, we rarely talk about weight loss because we've always put it back on and THAT'S depressing! Try not to let other people's opinions and feelings influence your own on this. You're doing FANTASTIC!!! And, just think about how shocked they will be when you continue to lose... sooner or later they will HAVE to notice and comment!
  6. I suggest you connect with others who are also having surgery in October (like me!) on this forum posting: http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/317411-newbie-looking-for-oct-sleevers/page-45#entry3622248 you'll feel better sharing your experiences with people who are going through the same thing.
  7. I understand that stress can definitely affect our eating, whether we eat more or, in your case, less. It doesn't make any sense to suggest you try to eat more; I'm sure you're doing the best you physically can. My suggestion is to try to practice some stress reduction techniques, such as meditation, walking or other exercise, or writing about it. I've found that writing about a problem reduces the stress it causes, for some reason... I guess it's because you're getting it out of your head and onto paper, so you don't have to think about it as much.
  8. @@spelmanite10, feel better soon! keep us posted on your progress.
  9. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/317411-newbie-looking-for-oct-sleevers/ there are a lot of us getting sleeved this month. you will find people there with the same concerns, all in the same time frame. i've had anaesthesia several times, and it's really nothing. you will be asleep practically before you are aware of them administering anaesthesia (the anaesthesiologist will shoot it into the IV s/he will put in during pre-op). you may feel it burn a little bit, i usually do, and that burning tells you that you will be asleep in less than 15 seconds. it's normal to be nervous about surgery. remember why you're doing it, and do your best to stay positive. it helps!
  10. http://www.bariatricpal.com/topic/317411-newbie-looking-for-oct-sleevers/ there's a whole bunch of us in october! join us at the url above.
  11. i hear you. there is a pleasure some of us (most of us?) get when eating a lot of food. i know i do, for sure. i am hoping to replace my eating with exercise... my guy is always up for a walk... and picking up my crafts again... going back to singing in a chorus once i can stand for 3 hrs on the risers... and anything else i can think of. but i know i'll be mourning, as well as facing anxiety and depression that i'm medicating with food. ah well. such is the price for gaining health. good luck in your journey!
  12. i was at my mom's this weekend and a lot of my cousins were there. i shared the fact that i was having the surgery with them, and they were all very supportive. i love my family!!! and i figured, anyone who wasn't supportive, i could ignore because i don't really get to see them that often. luckily, i told them that i wasn't telling anyone else, because my mom didn't realize that. she thinks i put everything on facebook (she hates facebook, doesn't get the privacy things at all, and is always saying "don't put me on the facebook!" lol). although i am generally an in-your-face kind of sharing everything kinda girl, i think anything about my weight loss efforts or weight in general may be hurtful to me, so i'm being very selective about who i tell, at least until i start to show the results. after the fact, i may be more open and who-cares-what-you-think. i just don't want anyone to make me second guess or feel bad right now, i need all my positivity kept up!
  13. sending you strength vibes ~~~~~~~~~ if the cake is chocolate, think of it as made of poop. can't think of anything equivalent for vanilla... i'm a chocolate girl. re: the in laws... maybe tell them you're going for blood work on monday and the doc told you to do the special diet for it? or tell them you ate before everyone came because you knew how busy you would be at the party?
  14. congrats, @@BeagleLover, on your surgery! you sound like everything's going well.
  15. i vote for halloween cause i LOVE halloween and i love the idea that you're doing a costume.
  16. you are definitely not alone. i'm 57 (as of next week lol) and just finished my 3 month presurgery supervised weight loss, for a grand total of 10.5. i'm not sleeved yet, but i don't expect to have the same problem after surgery. that's why we're having it, right? good luck! and don't worry, keep reading the posts on the forum, they're very comforting when you think you're alone in an issue.
  17. @@happymama2014, in the long run a month is nothing. keep your chin up... that's really great news that it's not cancerous!
  18. thanks, @@JamieLogical! i am feeling VERY positive today.
  19. love the list, @@chellede! my update is that i have been submitted for insurance approval, and my surgeon's office confirmed that i will be sleeved in october. this is my birthday present to myself as well, my bday is 10/10. my surgeon only does surgery on tuesday, so it will be either 10/21 or 10/28, because i am unavailable before then with family stuff. i may be one of the last of us to get sleeved this month, so i'm grateful for all the sharing you do after you get sleeved. my surgeon only requires 4 days of liquid only pre-op, so i'll start it on a friday (i'm off), deal with it thru the weekend at home, and probably work at home or take off that monday before surgery. i'm afraid of doing weird diet things and going out of the house, as i'm a type 1 diabetic. i'm going to take the first week off, and work at home for 3 weeks after surgery, so i'll get used to my food and insulin changes before returning to the office. it's getting REALLLLLLLLLLLLLL!
  20. if he posted it on facebook, there's no reason you can't talk to him about it. just make it sound like sharing information, and not offering advice, which makes some people get a bit testy.
  21. I've been offline for a week, and a lot happened. I had my final weighin with the nutritionist, and i lost another 5 lbs, bringing me to a total of 10.5 since my first visit. she praised me, and i asked if i would be submitted to insurance now. she started to blather on about maybes and perhapses (the team wanted me to lose 14 total). i was more prepared mentally than i was on my last visit, when she made me feel very bad and kind of like i was in danger of not being approved. (i called my insurance company and found out that they only require NO NET GAIN, so i wasn't taking that from her this time.) i firmly but calmly stated that I knew the insurance company did not require me to lose any more, and told her I expected to be submitted since I had met all the requirements. She said that was up to the nurse. I spoke to the nurse, and she told me (AAAGGGGHHHH!!!!!) that they did not receive four of my clearances. wtf? so i went right to my PCP's office and waited until they had the time to pull my file and refax everything to the surgeon. (they didn't need to send everything again, but the office manager was cranky about them saying they didn't receive something and wanted to make a statement... i didn't interfere lol.) and i called the psychiatrist and asked them to resend their letter. they don't fax, so it had to be mailed. sigh. i waited until the beginning of this week to follow up and make sure they received everything, and was told that they were missing one item (an item which was NOT on the list of four from last week -- seriously starting to doubt these women's filing capabilities). BUT BUT BUT they submitted me anyway. WOOOOOOHOOOOOO!!!! it's getting reallllllllllly REAL. i was having a lot of anxiety, and now that the paperwork has been submitted, i feel much lighter of spirit. i'm definitely on track for the third or fourth week of October. my journey's "take-off time" is getting closer!
  22. that's awesome that it was so quick, @@brown eyed gal! i was just submitted this week and am waiting to hear. getting really REAL!
  23. what a jerk he sounds like now! it is so friggin hard to find a suitably aged man (i'm 56) who is emotionally available and physically attractive and financially secure and not an axe murderer. i've been divorced for 10 yrs now, and dating has been like a second job since then, seriously. i found that the more i did it, the better i became at weeding out the ones that didn't work for me... i used to tease first dates about my "patented process". i've had several relationships since my divorce, all of them good but none of them great. eventually there would come a time when i realized that and i had to move on. i mean, even my ex-husband was "right" for me at one time... i've changed since i first got married, and i continue to do so, and therefore so do the qualifications for the right partner. luckily for me, i found him. he's adorable, intelligent, sexy and treats me like a goddess, but hasn't got a penny. i got over that and we have been living together happily ever after for the last year and a half. i feel incredibly lucky! i'm glad i didn't give up dating because i never would have found him. i tell myself that all the others between him and my ex husband were who i needed at the time, and that i wouldn't have been ready for him before i found him. what i mean is, the most important thing to look for in a relationship is that it satisfies you, whatever it is that you want, be it sex, affection, a travel companion, someone to hike with... and doesn't DISsatisfy you in a way that you choose not to accept. you did good. on to the next fool! they're all fools until you find the right one.
  24. wow, 10% is harsh! my surgeon just says 5%. i mean, i understand them wanting to see us really try, but i can't understand withholding surgery from someone because they can't do what they've been trying to do their whole life! i actually ambushed the surgeon's practice manager after she did one of the monthly support group meetings and told her how discouraged i was after my second weigh in, and she comforted me and told me not to worry, that as long as it is obvious that i've made an attempt (like losing half), they'll accept it. maybe your surgeon does the same thing? i'm glad you emailed them, it's good to know the "real" rules. let us know what they say!
  25. oh boy, do i. according to my scale, i was down 10 lbs at my second weigh in, but according to theirs i hadn't lost an ounce since my first weigh in (when i lost 5.6). they were not very supportive and i felt kind of almost threatened that i wouldn't have the surgery. my final weigh in is TODAY and i'm so unsure about what they will find. i'm wearing my lightest outfit, and i've hardly eaten in two days lol. however. i called my insurance carrier and asked them for their requirements, and it turns out that as far as they're concerned, i only have to show no gain during my three month period. so i'm kind of not so worried as i was. i would suggest you do the same, and make sure you understand what are the requirements for your insurer, and what are your surgeon's personal requirements. it may make a difference to the way you feel too.
