@@Bandista that's good to know! I'm a little worried because I work really long hours so I need to get the best sleep I can but at the same time, the mask is damaging my face and I'm tired of waking up with extra air in my stomach.

This has been a long relationship with plenty of ups and downs along the way. Love/Hate comes to mind. Before surgery I composed a list of goals and getting rid of the CPAP is on there twice. Being hooked up to a device drove me nuts at times, but over the years I also gained a certain amount of security from it. The white noise of the swooshing air helped get me back to sleep during my frequent wake-ups in the night but a lot of the time it was the machine itself waking me up (not being strapped on properly, the nose pillows coming loose, etc.). We went away for three nights and it was wonderful not having to pack up my machine and set it all up in the hotel room. I gave it a few more days as an experiment once home, and while I plan to keep it in a closet somewhere just in case I am delighted to have it off of my bedside table. Yippee!
Oh, and I looked up my measurements to check: I have lost 2 inches off of my neck. That's a lot, for a neck. My waist? This one is kind of a shocker: 8 inches. Wow! No more Mrs. Winnie-the-Pooh and no more CPAP.

    kiba78,
I was a nervous wreck too. My appointment went great. My pre-op diet starts tomorrow and then on Saturday and Sunday it's only Clear liquids and no solid foods. The next two days are Protein shakes for two meals and lean Protein and veggie for the third meal. I won't know until Friday the time of my surgery. I can't wait until Monday. I will be a bundle of emotions until then. Good luck on your pre-op tomorrow!!

I just got my pre-op appointment and my surgery date. My pre-op is this Wednesday, December 2, 2015 and my surgery date is Monday, December 7th (no time yet). EEEEEKKKKKK!!!! Now I am a BUNDLE of nerves, excitement, anxiety, nerves, excitement, anxiety (well, you get the picture). This just became real!! Any advice from any one? I have been so impatient about getting these appointments and now they're here.
My journey/adventure is about to begin.....

I'm jealous! I'm 99% sure I don't need mine anymore because I'm on the lowest possible setting and I seem to wake up burping from all the air, but I'd like to do another sleep study to confirm it. For those of you who have managed to stop using it, how did you do it - slow transition or cold turkey? Despite the fact that it's given me sore on my nose, I don't know how to sleep without it!

i was supposed to be wearing cpap, but never could tolerate it due to extreme claustrophobia etc. but since my neck went from a 24 to a 16, i dont have any issues anymore. what a difference a year makes. and i had the UPPP surgery a few years back to help with sleep apnea, not something i would ever reccomend.

Oh, yeah, collar bones are sexy, aren't they? When I first saw them (but I've since gone in reverse), I was probably doing a collar-bone equivalent of duckface. I'll get 'em back. In the meantime enjoy them for me, too.

I also broke up with mine, but I took mine back to the medical supply place, and I fired my pulmonologist (who told me not to have the surgery because I wasn't BIG enough) he was a dip$hit!

The bed, not the girl! We are just back from a four-day getaway and our beautifully-appointed hotel room had a Queen. Before weight loss? No way! For years it's had to be a King but no more. But now it was just fine. Oh, and I just hopped off the scale and did not gain a thing despite the fact that I ate deliciously-rich restaurant food (mostly French) -- those small portions really work. And I love it that now I can (and do) just stop. Now for some serious exercise (another NSV -- wanting to do it!).

Thanks for the response. Yes, I've done my research. I don't want my stomach taken out and I would never have my intestines rerouted. I exercise and enjoy it I look forward to doing yoga where my stomach doesn't get in the way of floor exercises. I've been working on eating smaller portions and see how my family contributes to eating also. I'm changing what food we have in my house. 3 years ago I had to have a hysterectomy and a lot of stress at work and my BP sky rocketed so now I'm on BP meds. I have sleep apnea but really think I've had this since before college when I was thin. My entire family has sleeping disorders. A couple of years ago I realized I sleep eat on ambien, scary. I know I shouldn't read too much. I've found a lot of good info to prepare for post op. Today I'm cooking Soups and freezing in ice cube trays. My liquid and full liquid diet is ready to go.

Yeah! I just broke up with mine too!
I could have stopped using it 6 months ago but I had a real problem getting used to not using it. For me it was a comfort having it. Then I was finally on the lowest pressures possible (mine was Bi-pap) and the damn thing get waking me up because the pressure was still too high.
So, I started one day at a time and then I would ask my husband if I snored. He said not at all. I kept it at my bedside for another 2 months but did not use it. So last week I let him pack it away.
It is so nice not having all that crap strapped to your face when trying to sleep.
Congratulations to all of us that no longer look like airplane pilots when we sleep!
