  1. I agree with terry....take it one step at a time and just remember what AND why you are doing this. It won't be all "peaches and cream" but it is so doable....and I've said this as a reply on other posts...when/if the day comes and you are wondering what you have done to yourself (as I did a day or two after surgery) push through it and remember you did it to better your health, better your life, better yourself. Follow YOUR doctors orders and relax! And try not to compare your progress to others...everyone is different....as long as you're losing (at any rate) you're losing...and that is the goal after all! I'm 2 1/2 mos out from surgery and so glad I made this decision...eating everything I want and like just in smaller portions. NO MORE DIETING HERE AND NO DEPRIVATION. It is a wonderful thing. I am feeling blessed and the results are showing! Good luck to you...hang in there....don't be a stranger...and keep up posted!
  2. A little sore and not too hungry...and trying to follow all the new rules and drink enough. I was a bit teary and had some "buyers remorse" and even was asking myself what did I do to myself, did I make a mistake. My supportive hubby kept reassuring me it was the right decision and all will be alright. Well, 2 1/2 mos later, no fills to date, eating everything I want without any deprivation, walking, listening to my band, and still learning to walk away from a plate with food still on it and realizing the world won't collapse because of it... I am 55 lbs down and feeling SO good about myself.... Congrats to you on your new journey...wishing you all the best...keep us posted!
  3. I've chosen not to tell people about my WLS...only my immediate family knows and 4 friends total. I've had many people recently comment and compliment me on my weight loss so far. Usually, I say thanks and keep on going. But there are always those people who ask "what are you doing". And I stumble a bit to answer. Sometimes I just want to say I had WLS...but then I think....sometimes when I say those words "weight loss surgery" I feel like it negates all my hard work over the past 2 1/2 months since being banded. Its kind of like when you say WEIGHT LOSS SURGERY...you had surgery and now your weight is and will be fixed! It makes it sound so "simple"...that all the hard work and dedication, and all the rules to follow won't matter to anyone. They will say "oh she needed that surgery to lose her weight". I'm not sure if this is making any sense...just something I have been thinking more about since people are now noticing and commenting on the 55 lbs I have lost. My attitude/mood has changed and I'm dressing differently and even finding 5 mins in the morning to apply some makeup. I feel so much better physically and emotionally and am more confident in myself and I just feel good about ME! So, I often hold back and dont say anything about having WLS when they ask. I tell them high Protein and smaller portions and that is it. Sometimes, I feel embarrassed/ashamed that I got to the point in my life where I had to "resort" to surgery. I'm glad I did this and I regret not a minute of it...EVER! These are just some feelings I've been sorting through.... But I think maybe a better name would be ....IMPROVEMENT SURGERY!!
  4. Sounds like things are going well...congrats....and CONGRATS on moving on to more solids! Keep us posted!

  8. Looking awesome...keep those pics coming..they inspire me to post some...maybe soon!
  9. I actually just found adult strength liquid acetaminophen (Tylenol) at CVS. It's the only place I've seen it so I bought a couple bottles of it to have on hand. Here it is: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Extra-Strength-Pain-Relief-Adult-Liquid-Rapid-Burst-Cherry-Flavor?skuId=695051 This was my savior after surgery...didint have to resort to heavy duty meds!!
  10. I actually just found adult strength liquid acetaminophen (Tylenol) at CVS. It's the only place I've seen it so I bought a couple bottles of it to have on hand. Oh dear, so sorry. I fear this -- just found a brand at CVS for fish oils called "Half the size." Hoping those will work for me as I need the fish oils for arthritic pain. Cannot do Tylenol now -- the oblong shape is no good. I read on some one's post about flapping your left elbow like a crazy chicken dance and how that can help. I have no idea but thought I'd put it out there. Best wishes to you! Here it is: http://www.cvs.com/shop/product-detail/CVS-Extra-Strength-Pain-Relief-Adult-Liquid-Rapid-Burst-Cherry-Flavor?skuId=695051 This was my savior after surgery....I didnt need the heavy duty pain killers!
  11. It's a journey that you just have to take one day at a time. And if/when the day comes and you say "what the heck did I do to myself" (I did several times post-op)...push through it and know that you made the best decision to better yourself, your health and your life. I'm down 51 pounds already and have such energy and self-confidence and feel really great about ME...what an awesome feeling to have again after so many years of hiding. Don't let anyone frighten you into foods you can and cannot eat and when to or not to get your fills....everyone is different. Personally, I haven't needed a fill yet and will not be getting one on my next check up on 12/4....I eat 3 small meals and one small snack and am satisfied and happy. And I can eat everything so far (although I wont eat triscuits any time soon--they gave me some grief....lol-just an uncomfortable feeling). You have to go through your own trial and error period once your doc gives you the ok for solids. Follow YOUR docs advice only! And last, but not least, cut yourself some slack after surgery when you begin to eat again. It takes awhile to adjust to the new routines and "rules" of eating with a band and time to get used to the mechanics (small bites, eating slow etc) Don't expect perfection ....it takes time..all in the learning curve. Hope that helps you some and good luck...keep us posted!
  12. Ditto....exactly... I'm about 9 weeks out of surgery and I'm eating 3 meals plus one small snack (between lunch and dinner). During the week at work, I'm usually eating some kind of hot or cold Cereal w/milk. For lunch at work usually chicken, tuna, or egg salad w/ light mayo and some kind of crackers. Snack is usually baby bel light cheeses or cottage cheese. And dinner is 3-4 oz protein, 1/2 c. veggie, 1/4 c. carb. I use fitness pal as well and its nice not to be journaling everything. But I eat everything and go for smaller portions and have been happy with the results so far....loving lap-band life! Hope that helps in some way!
  13. That is GREAT...it is crazy when you think of what we carry and are losing. Im down 50lbs but I often think of that as 10 - 5 lb bags of potatoes. Try going to the store and picking all that up in your arms at once. It blows my mind. I can't imagine how it feel to lose 100, 125, 150 and more like many here have been successful doing....However, I do look forward to that day. Thanks for sharing that great story!
  14. Nothing stuck....it was an amazing and delicious meal...ate a little bit of EVERYTHING...and feeling awesome about it too!
  15. SO TRUE....I am so looking forward to thanksgiving/hanukkah...and well, I look forward to EVERY DAY now....food is not ruling me anymore...and I'm so proud of my results so far.
  16. YOU GUYS ARE AWESOME....HAPPY TURKEY DAY TO ALL!
  17. Great post and wonderful success on your part. I am beginning to request booths now myself....it is a great feeling to know that you can now fit into a space that was always to snug before! Good for you...hope you are feeling great after your hip replacement!
  18. Congrats on your band...I hear your fears about your relationship with food. I am 8 weeks out of surgery and haven't needed a fill yet and will not be getting one when I go on Dec. 4th because 3 meals and a snack are doing it for me...thankfully so! I was a constant food grazer all day long and it was my comfort and confidant on many, many, MANY days (OK...pretty much EVERYDAY)....I can only speak for myself but I thought I would be miserable not being able to eat all the foods i love and in the quantities I used to consume. For me, the transition was not as hard as i thought.... I DO eat everything I want just the portions are much smaller and I've learned when enough is enough or if I've pushed it a little too far. Food is still a comfort for me...its a comfort to know that I can eat to live now and NOT live to eat like was doing for decades. I know for me, once the weight starting coming off and I could see a change when I looked in the mirror it was so monumentous for me. Wishing you all the best and hang in there....there is so much more to our lives than just FOOD!
  19. I am 8 weeks out and SO looking forward to enjoying a little bit of everything!! No deprivation here  You said you would bring something "you can eat"....can't you eat everything/anything and just adjust the portions? Best of luck and happy turkey day to all!
  20. Amazing job...what an accomplishment....love the tops....very pretty!
  21. 50 down....I'm good for a small bale of hay!
  22. I just said I was having a medical procedure and that I wanted to keep it private. With all of the privacy laws out there my doctors office told me they werent allowed to ask or require you to tell them what you were having done!! Good luck with it!
  23. I'm only 2 months out and havent needed a fill yet...so i am in NO WAY experienced.... But it seems that you would be too tight with your last fill....I would surely be on the phone with the doctor ASAP. I know one thing for sure....throwing up is not supposed to be the "norm". Wishing you luck!
