  1. Hey everyone~ My surgeon is Dr.Sherwinter, I have heard great things about him...but, that's from his staff. Have any of you had him? or know any stories? I've met him once..he was kind of socially awkward but that doesn't mean he isn't a good surgeon. =]
  2. Hey everyone! i'm still waiting for approval but I know the date is set for the 3rd week of January. I hope all goes well for all of you =]
  3. to be honest I have had the same fears. i'm 27 years old, 6'4 and 350lbs. I know none of us came into this thinking "I'd be nice to have loose skin, I can't wait to use it like a hoodie" however~ it's about being healthier and ultimately, if this is the trade off then so be it. I'm waiting to be approved for next month and i'm trying to look at the bright side of the surgery =]
  4. On Monday I will find out if i'm approved for the sleeve. They made my surgery date January 17. My only issue is that i'm a college student and during that time I will be taking a class that i'm only allowed two absences. If I get the surgery over the weekend (friday morning), I wonder, would I be able to attend class by monday? unfortunately I can't take the semester off because I'm literally one class away from graduating and my insurance told me i'm only approved for that week. I don't know what to do.
  5. I have Dr.Sherwinter too! I've only spoken to him for less than a minute but I hear great things about him.
  6. I have been waiting for my papers to be submitted since September. It has been hell! but I remind myself that I won't remember the stresses of this experience after I get the surgery. They officially submitted my papers a day or two ago. I have healthfirst and was told I should get an answer by Monday. If I learned anything through dealing with Dr offices..you HAVE TO constantly call them, always have back up copies of your papers and be prepared to go there in person to make sure things are going smoothly because some places like to leave you in the dark, even when they need something from you. GOOD LUCK EVERYONE! WE MADE IT THIS FAR
  7. I just finished my last appointment for the sleeve. My doctors office keeps Me in the dark regarding the progress and process of this journey. I have to call them and ask if I have to do anything else. Do I have to ask my Pcp for the clearance letter or do they do that on their own? When will they submit my papers? I'm trying hard not to be a jerk to them but they really don't answer my questions ..or the phone! How long after your last appointment was your papers submitted?
  8. Back in April I had my endoscopy. I woke up toward the end of it. I remember the doctor shoving the tube down my throat as I gagged and burped. Tears ran down my face and all I could think was "stay calm, he's almost done" it seemed to be an eternity! Ever since that day, whenever I raise my right arm in the air I automatically burp. I asked my Pcp and she assured me everything is fine. This never happened before my endoscopy. Has this happened to any of you?
  9. Im glad everything went well for you. I woke up toward the end of my endoscopy. It was terrifying and it felt horrible. I never want to have to do that again! lol
  10. Best of luck! I have one more sleep apnea test then I'm home free!
  11. Sounds like a plan! Thank you so much. Did you or your mom have to do the 6 month diet?
  12. I have been changing insurance (mainly to avoid the 6 month diet, just being honest) had HIP then my surgeon suggested I switch to healthplus. I changed surgeons because that guy was a prick. I went a Sleeve info session at Maimonides hospital in Brooklyn, Ny. During the session we were told if we have healthfirst we wouldn't have to do the diet..so being the impatient guy I am, I switched over to healthfirst. Now I'm being told I might have to do the diet. I really want to get this done before I start my next semester of college. Grrr XD
  13. I was told I had to come in and sleep with the mask on. Thanks everyone for responding! I guess this means I might have it, no worries
  14. I did my sleep apnea testing on the weekend. I was told I would get the results within three weeks. I got a call yesterday from their office, I was excited..maybe I got my results early and I don't have sleep apnea??? Nope! They called to schedule the second sleepover study. SECOND?! I thought I was done! lol. If I get my results and It says I don't have sleep apnea..err do I have do the second part? I was so close to finishing everything! I was clinging to it like a drowning man! Ok. Ok. Enough with the dramatics on my end. Anyone have this happen?
  15. I finally finished the final thingy majingy on the list for surgery, which was a sleep apnea test. So my question is..what now? I was told it can take up to 3 weeks to get results. Is it really 3 weeks? I hope they over estimated to give themselves some wiggle from.
  16. I had a psych eval about a week ago. She basically asked how much I knew about the surgery, what I expect from it and how I plan to live after surgery. She didn't ask me anything overly personal. Just breathe.
  17. When I worked at CVS one of my customer's children called me fat..like out of nowhere. His mother laughed and said "oh my! Children are so honest!". Really? I should have overcharged her lol.
  18. Has anyone gone down in shoe sizes post surgery? I'm a size 15 and hope my feet with magically shrink to a 14 or 13. Its so hard to find my size lol
  19. Congrats! Let us know how it goes
  20. Thanks everyone! This was very helpful
  21. I'm trying to get a sleeve but I keep reading that you need to have a BMI of 35 or higher and at least one health problem. I have a BMI of 43 but no health issues. Have any of you had this be an issue?
  22. That's great! I'm in Brooklyn. I'm meeting with a new surgeon soon. I have to call him tomorrow. I'm hoping for the best
  23. I switched my insurance to health plus/Medicaid on the first. I hope they wave the six month diet think for me as well lol. I had to find a new surgeon because my old one sent me a shady doctor who used dirty tools on me. Unfortunately, I think I have to start all over again. My Pcp is trying to set me up with a new team.
  24. Wow! Maybe I should switch too XD. How long did you wait to get approved?
