LessLee reacted to gowalking in a new NSV
So I went to a work luncheon today and sat in a tight corner at the table that 65 lbs. ago, I’d have never been able to fit into. My first reaction when I saw where I was likely headed was oh uh…too tight…sit somewhere else…but then I realized it would probably be OK and it was. I know I’m still overweight and not nearly at goal yet, but these little ‘normalcies’ that so many people take for granted are so uplifting for me and help me to keep my eye on the prize.

how are you making out with the pre-op diet, when is your surgery and where are you having it done, even though I am starting over I have never regretted getting the band, it is such a useful tool when used properly :-)

LessLee reacted to teacher208 in "Stranger Here"
I don't know if anyone else likes to read like me, but I know we must have similar joys and struggles with droid and our bodies. I recently picked up this book, 'Stranger Here', that's about someone else's weight loss journey, and it brought years to my eyes to know that my food struggles are not just mine! It also made me so glad that I opted for the band and not a more invasive surgery. I think it's a great read for anyone on this journey!
Best wishes!!

LessLee reacted to Scorpio Girl in New pre-surgery and having a hard time with practice diet
One foot in front of the other...you just do it. Think of how you'll feel with 50-80% of your excess weight gone. You'll move easier, be a participant in life, not an observer; your joints won't hurt so much. Head hunger is a big deal. Gotta keep that beast at bay. Have a plan, go for a walk, brush your teeth, etc to distract your mind.
Good luck!!!

LessLee reacted to tkauhi in Newbie here
Thank you Stephanie, its nice to meet you and I know I will have plenty of questions. I've been doing research since last July but I've learned more in this forum than what I've learned through my research. It's great to be here.

LessLee reacted to Maddysgram in An array of EMOTIONS! What to expect? Surgery T-14 ?!?!?!?
I think we all have shared in those same emotions. You will find as you progress into this, you will discover a few more. I call them LB phases. Don't be surprised that the night before surgery you cry and think, want in the world I'm I getting myself into and maybe I can loose the weight by myself.
Isn't great to know, you're not alone and this is all normal?
As long as you have educated yourself and know what you're getting into, you'll do great.
Have you tried different shakes, see which brand you like best? Got your sf Jello, broth, sf popsicles ready?
Take Chapstick to surgery center with you. After surgery you wake up with really dry lips.
Heating pad? SF flavored drinks?
Pillow for ride home, seatbelt can rub against your incisions.
Best of luck!

LessLee reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in what's the deal with the gas/bloating?
In order to do the surgery laproscopically, they must pump air into the abdomen to expand it to make it easier to see and move within in it. Because of this, it's very common to have some bloating/gas/left shoulder pain for awhile after surgery.
The secret to relieve this pain is walking. The gas is pumped into your abdominal cavity not your digestive track so OTC gas remedies won't help it. They never come in contact with it. The best you can do is walk as much as possible to help your body reabsorb it faster. Some people also find a heating pad helps relieve the discomfort, too.

LessLee got a reaction from mrsto in what's the deal with the gas/bloating?
From what I've been reading, it is due to the CO2 gas they blow up your insides with during surgery. Now, I haven't had mine yet, so I'll wait and see other's responses.

LessLee reacted to Mrs.Bales in Slimband
Hey there - I was banded at the Toronto Clinic (SlimBand) on May 24th. I have really appreciated the after care and follow up so far - the daily emails have really helped me but I find their website for members not as good as this one. Yes it is mainly Americans but they have had the same proceedure and are a real wealth of knowledge.
Good luck to you all!
