  1. I bet you'd kiss your band if you could get to it, lol. Congrats girl!!! Thumbs up!
  2. Wow Blue, what a journey you've been on. I'm so happy that you're on your way to a happy ending! Never look back! You're going to be that Rockstar very soon lol
  3. Sorry you're in pain. All of what you have described is quite normal for 1 day post op. Your port is going to be tender and sore for a while, as Zingy said, it's been sutured to your abdominal muscles. They will pull for a while. As for the burning pain, it's most likely from the severed nerves from being surgically opened. The nerves are burning, sending pain messages to your brain. Take your pain meds now. You will need them for a week or so (everyone heals differently, some quicker than others, and some have more pain tolerance) As for the shoulder pain and not sleeping, I took beano, and walked to move the gas,and I took warm showers to relax my muscles, used a heating pad, and changed positions/locations often while I slept. I slept in a recliner a lot the first few days. But always remember, if ever in doubt, call your WL surgeon. You will get through this!!! Best wishes for a healthy, speedy recovery!
  4. Amazing! You've come so far in such a small amount of time! Congrats!!
  5. Amazing vid! Reminds me of the seagulls here in Florida that dive bomb us, lol. Beautiful countryside too, thanks for sharing!
  6. Also, my WL surgeon gave me a prescription for Prilosec for the first 30 days. She said this would help the swelling of my stomach and protect it. You may want to ask your surgeon if you would benefit from a med like that.
  7. I agree, it sounds like you may be taking too big of bites and eating too fast. At 3 weeks out I was still on purees. If you ate the soup and chicken that wasn't pureed, maybe your stoma is irritated too. That's why your wl surgeon recommended going back on liquids to give it time to heal. You just need to take it slow, follow doctors orders, and remember your body is trying to adjust to the changes now since being banded. Work with your band and it will love you back Don't give up on your band yet. Best wishes
  8. Hello Michael, and welcome. Wow you have really rallied for a second chance at health and life, and you have done amazing, congrats! You are so very close to your finish line, and I think you are wise to consider banding as a tool to help you achieve your goals. Many obese people have lost weight and maintained that for a while, studies have shown that for many, the most difficult area of weight loss is maintaining their goal for life. Many unfortunately will regain their weight plus more. But now there is Lap Band that can keep us accountable and at goal. I was banded on August 7th and I know without a shadow of a doubt that if it weren't for the band, I would not achieve my goal, and certainly not maintain my loss. I love my band, and would never go back and I would do it all over again if I had to. I had my first fill on Friday, and got 5cc in my 10cc band. I know now how powerful the band is. I have even more control over my weight loss. I've had no complications either. As to you lurking here and seeing many 'stories' of peoples experiences... remember this is a public forum which any one can post. I've seen scammers here, and band haters, and just haters of obese people. If you listen to all advice here, you need to consider the source. I'm not saying the peoples posts you read weren't legit, I'm just saying everyone here may not have a banders best interest at heart. This is where you should ask many questions of your WL surgeon. Maybe attend a local support group and talk to banders in all stages of their journey, so you can see in person how wonderful Lap Bands really are. One of the most important things to remember if you get banded is COMPLIANCE, many of those that fail or complain of their bands have not followed their WL surgeons recommendations. Compliance is key. No doubt that you would do well with a Lap Band, since you have already been so disciplined in your weight loss on your own. The band will help you get to goal, and keep you there. I wish you the best, and a speedy, safe journey to your goal!!!
  9. Good Luck! And yes, it's possible to find love here at LBT!
  10. I had a hiatal hernia as well, but never had any symptoms. I'm 4 weeks out from surgery today. So I'm interested to see if I develop reflux now. I sure hope not. If I was a fatty without reflux, I surely don't want it post band!
  11. Fatty liver aside, I think it's about our choice to become banded. We have to leave our old habits and become disciplined with a new diet. No better time to begin than the few weeks leading up to surgery. It does get easier as your pre op diet goes on. You have to remember its was a choice to change lifestyles and stick with it. Just cause you get banded doesn't mean there isn't any more work to do. You have to stay disciplined. You can do it! Best Wishes
  12. I'm taking Prilosec. My surgeon said it helps reduce stomach swelling right after surgery. So it's only for 30 days, then I'm finished with it.
  13. Hey Conner, I was banded about 3 1/2 weeks ago, and my band is empty now too. I had more of a PB episode with a piece of chicken. I think the bite was too big, and I didn't chew it enough. I knew what was happening, just from reading the posts on here, and talking to other bandsters. Nonetheless, it was eye opening. I just stood up and started walking until it came back up. It was uncomfortable for a few minutes, but it taught me to slow down, cause I can definitely notice my band now. I can only imagine what my first fill will be like if I don't learn to slow down and take smaller bites. Best wishes Conner
  14. I've had the same problem, girlgetsLB. My surgery was August 7th and I lost 21 pounds in 20 days. Then the scale didn't change for a couple weeks, so I stopped obsessively weighing and just continued my routine. I noticed my clothes are still getting bigger and it seems I'm losing inches too. I have my first fill in a little less than 3 weeks, and it's going to be 5 cc's my surgeon said. So with that, I hope to start moving the scales in the right direction. Best wishes
  15. I was also banded on August 7th, but mine came right on time, August 11th. Could be the surgery, trauma or the drugs that you were given. I would call your doctor and discuss it with a nurse, they may want you to come in for a test. Good luck to you
  16. I'm so sorry to hear that you received bad news. I think talking with a person you trust would be therapeutic. I would also suggest prayer if you're religious. Anything to take your mind off of food would be helpful, such as the gym or a walk, that would raise your endorphins. God Bless you.
  17. Walking, Gas X and a heating pad helped me, but I slept in a recliner until the shoulder pain was gone, it helped a lot and I was comfy. Best wishes
  18. I'm a 42 DDD and I love the Balconette bras at lane Bryant. They're underwire and have wonderful lift and make your girls beautiful. Happy Shopping
  19. It's so very easy for a thin, healthy person to comment negatively about obesity. However, most thin people have never faced obesity, if they're making such harsh comments. They've never walked in an obese persons shoes to know that illness and medication is also a cause of being overweight. The spinal injuries, surgeries, steroids, etc...and lack of ability to exercise due to injury. Or the persons with auto-immune diseases that cause people to be on high dose steroids for years at a time, which causes weight to increase. So it seems a lot of thin, healthy people that have the health and ability to eat whatever they choose and are able to workout at the gym see all obese people as lazy over eaters that have no self control. These people are only closed minded and ignorant to the facts that obesity has many causes, each person has their own story as to how they became a bandster. But the bottom line is, we are all concerned enough to do something about it, if it's safe and works and we regain our health, who cares what vehicle it is that helps us attain our goal and cross the finish line. I wonder if the same people that criticize the band, would think twice about ditching their eyeglasses or contacts and having Lasix surgery to correct their imperfect eyes. I highly doubt it, as it's another option to get them to their goal of healthy eyesight. And P.S. Soujourner, yes this is only my opinion, I can provide no links, as this is a forum that is mixed with personal journeys and opinions, with some occasional proven statistics. Best wishes everyone.
  20. Gastro, Congrats to you on your decision. Why be nervous, you had Gastric Bypass already, you can do this! Take the professional advice of your doctor, and address your concerns to him or her, that's where your best advice will come from. Best wishes to you, and keep us updated on how you're doing.
  21. Welcome NewMe, I feel this is the best decision I've made to get healthy. I've been banded for about 3 weeks, and I only wish I'd done it sooner. Congrats on your decision and Best Wishes to successful banding, weight loss and better health.
  22. Yes, the shoulder pain was the worst part of the surgery, I used a heating pad and hot showers and walked also. Use your pain meds if you need them. I liked sleeping in a recliner too. By day 4 post op, my pain was gone. I was back to normal. But healing times vary person to person. Best wishes for a speedy recovery.
  23. Hey Kimmy, first of all I wish you a speedy recovery, and I think it's different with everyone. It depends if your surgeon used gas to fill your tummy or not. That was the worst part for me. But I felt fine at day 4 post op, doing normal things like moping and cleaning. But I'm used to pain and surgeries too. I found it helpful to sleep in a recliner the first couple days also. Nonetheless hope you're back to being normal very soon!
  24. Hey Lotus, congrats on your loss thus far! I agree that this is a difficult time for bandsters, and it helps to have a significant other that knows what you're going through. It makes such a difference to have their support and encouragement. Have you tried the Singles area here or chat room? Here's the link for the Singles http://www.lapbandtalk.com/forum/138-single-bandsters/ And for the chat room just look under the Community tab at the top. Best wishes!
  25. I totally agree, focus on lean sources of protein, it will keep you full longer, and the carbs from the sandwich (bread) may be turning to fat. So I echo what Sharpie said above. And also are you only having coffee in the morning, and no food? This may be a nice time of day to sneak in some protein, it will jump start your metabolism, something like some greek yogurt and blueberries would be nice. The combination of protein and complex carbs together will keep you full longer, and keep your insulin level longer. Best Wishes
