Okay so I know im probably annoying everyone with my questions but im a newbie and im freaked out and the doctors office isnt open yet but i just had my surgery yesterday and the incision where the port is has a burning sensation going on and its really freakin me out! Im like in tears worrying about it and I just dont know if its normal! Also I am not sleeping well...took some pain meds at 830 fell asleep woke up at 10 with horrible shoulder pain I couldnt even lie down sat there til 1230 took more pain meds and then went to sleep and woke up at 430 like I dont wanna keep taking pain meds to be able to sleep! Wahhh the pain plus the little sleep is getting to me! Someone help!

Ah you poor thing don't panic. If your only one day post op pain near your port is usual. Its been anchored to your abdominal wall. They are sore for a while. As for burning?? Not so sure about that. Is it very red and hot.. That can indicate possible infection. Keep an eye on it. Expect some discomfort.. Don't suffer gas/wind pain thats what pain relief is for. Walk gently as much as you can it really helps. Peppermint ginger tea or cordial also help.. Try not to worry and relax you'll feel better soon. :-)

Its not like red or warm to the touch it just burns when im walking like the burning feeling of getting a tattoo...I cant take the bandage off til tomorrow to get a better look at it. Im just feeling depressed because I feel like the pain is never gonna go away and im never going to sleep again! Its worse then I thought it was gonna be. Its either my incision or my shoulder but when im walking it definitely my incision with the burning feeling. If I hold my stomach there its a little better but im freaking out!

Thats probably just where its stitched to your muscle..but when you take off plasters/bandage check it for heat whether it is nice and dry not sticky or weeping. They can be signs of infection. The wind pain is a b**ch.. The more you move the quicker it seems to shift. It can take a few days.. Think positively it wil go and you'll start losing weight and feel fab..

IT DOES GET BETTER!! I promise you will sleep again! You are only a day post-op, so expect a couple more days of discomfort and then things will get better. I'm not sure what the burning sensation is, but the port site for me was the worst. I'm two weeks post op and it's still tender. Call your surgeon and see what's going on. But don't worry....this, too, shall pass.

Sorry you're in pain. All of what you have described is quite normal for 1 day post op. Your port is going to be tender and sore for a while, as Zingy said, it's been sutured to your abdominal muscles. They will pull for a while. As for the burning pain, it's most likely from the severed nerves from being surgically opened. The nerves are burning, sending pain messages to your brain. Take your pain meds now. You will need them for a week or so (everyone heals differently, some quicker than others, and some have more pain tolerance) As for the shoulder pain and not sleeping, I took beano, and walked to move the gas,and I took warm showers to relax my muscles, used a heating pad, and changed positions/locations often while I slept. I slept in a recliner a lot the first few days. But always remember, if ever in doubt, call your WL surgeon. You will get through this!!! Best wishes for a healthy, speedy recovery!

The pain in your shoulder is gas, and the only thing that really helps is walking, a heating pad, and pain meds. Incision pain is quite normal. You're only a day out, hang in there because it does get better.

I had surgery on the 16th and I have had AWFUL pain at my port site/incision! Along with what I can describe as a tearing/ripping sensation that my doc said was muscle related since the port is attached to the fascia and muscle. Take it easy, TAKE YOUR PAIN MEDS! That is what they are for!!! You just had MAJOR surgery and despite what you may think they are not gentle on your body when they are in there.... things get bumped and moved around!

I just had my first REAL GOOD day yesterday! GL!

Try putting an ice pack on the site that is hurting you. It will really help to reduce the swelling and ease the feeling of burning.

If you find that the wound is red or hot to the touch please call your doctor.

It does get better! I'm two weeks out from my surgery. My first few days were miserable...but I kept with the pain meds, used my heating pad, and walked a lot around the house. I also had trouble sleeping. I had to prop myself up on several pillows to find that comfy spot so I could snooze for a couple of hours. But, every day got better. I'm still tender in a few places (where my pants come close to incision sites...especially now that I'm back at work and have to dress decently). So, my advice...find that heating pad. I hope you feel better soon!

DO NOT use heat to treat pain, especially after surgery! It draws blood to the area, increases the risk of infection and can cause burns on already sensitive skin! Use ice....it slows the firing of nerve signals to lessen pain.

Where did you keep your heating pad at? On your incisions? Ive been getting up and walking a lot. I sleep in a basement so the worst part is the stairs. I just want the pain to go away lol

I didn't have a great deal of pain with my actual incisions...just some minor soreness. Be careful with the heating pad, don't turn it up too high and put something between it and your skin. I promise it gets better. I think on my fourth day post-op I woke up feeling totally different and began the upswing.

Okay I will do that. Thank you guys so much! Im going crazy! I dont have anyone that understands what im going through besides the people on here.

Yea im using it on my neck where it hurts the most with a towel over it
