DMJ 0340 reacted to Bandista in Lap band slipped and gaining like a pig!
Hi Ann, I hope it goes well tomorrow and you are able to get back on track. I am just back from a therapy appointment. Still pre-band (one more week!) but have been seeing a therapist while going through this process. Trying to sort out those issues of what food has meant for me, the overeating, feeling like my body betrayed me at some point (the initial big gain and subsequent failed attempts to lose weight), etc. I am a stress-eater (who isn't?!) and use food to tamp down anxiety. You must be anxious about your band right now. Things will be so much better when you know what's going on with this and the fact that you are coming here and checking in means you are aware. That is important, don't you think -- the awareness of what we are doing. Just know you're not alone -- please don't feel embarrassed or disgusted with yourself. We've all been there and we're all here now. Keep us posted!

Hi all. Both hips replaced on October 8th and I'm still alive and kicking. lots of PT ahead and lots of recuperating to do but at least the surgery is over. Lots of swelling so I'm not even bothering to weigh myself. I bet I have ten lbs. of Water weight alone just looking at how swollen my legs/hips are. Doing as well as can be expected and very happy to report that since the hip surgery, My knees feel better. Will keep you all posted. Liz

I did a search to figure out what you were talking about. You didn't come here looking for compassion and at no time were you belittled. You came here, never having posting before and have no relationship with anyone here, looking for votes for your contest.
I'm sorry but people reacted with caution and honesty. When a stranger comes out of the blue posting links and wanting our help with one of the zillion potential scams out there, a red flag goes up. We don't want a virus from a link and we don't want to be part of a scam. We don't know you so we don't trust you, either. You can't fault us for having a healthy dose of skepticism.
If you want our help, trying being a part of our community and getting to know us, not just coming here for votes. Otherwise, you're sure to get nowhere fast.

DMJ 0340 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in seriously thinking of lapband
    Hi Susan and welcome!
Post op, every doctor seems to have their own diet that must be follow while you heal. But once you're past the healing phase and back onto real food, you can eat pretty much whatever you want just in smaller quantities. Ideally, you should strive for healthy food choices high in Protein, but that isn't to say you won't still be able to have old favorites, too.
The only thing that gives me problems is dry meat. Otherwise, I can and do eat pretty much anything. I always say the band is about moderation not deprivation.
    Best wishes!

DMJ 0340 reacted to Sojourner in How ofter do you weigh
    Ditto what mrsto posted...
Weighing too frequently can set you up for unnecessary negative feelings about what the scale says. Not weighing too often allows for continuing to feel good about what your efforts are every day. Also, small fluctuations in your weight are normal, but many can become discouraged by seeing them, and then question what they might be "doing wrong".
I do my best every day to make good meal choices and exercise. Weighing myself every 2 weeks or so allows me to see progress without the self doubt or negative feelings about a lack of progress.
Do the right things, and the weight will come off. Another thought...my band and my weight loss journey have served to allow me to acquire a life skill that eluded me for many years...patience!
    Best wishes...

I've had a difficult time posting a profile picture of myself on Facebook. I used to have pics of "things" but never me. Yesterday I did it! I received many positive reviews!! I didn't have the courage before. Since summer, I've been taking pictures of myself. I finally decided to do it. And you know what, it felt good!!

DMJ 0340 reacted to DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in The urge to binge
I won't even sugar coat it- it's hard. I was the exact same way. I wouldn't think twice about eating a whole cake, or a big bag of candy, or a box of Little Debbies. Like you, I only did it when I was alone so no one else could see my gluttony.
My best advice to get all trigger foods out of the house. This way, if you are tempted to give into the urge to binge, you have to physically leave the house and go to the store to get the food to binge on. The majority of the time that alone will stop you.
Hang in there, you can do this.

Hmm at least here in canada no one goes bankrupt if they get sick ! pre existing condition no problem covered! most provinces allow wls surgery but if you want it faster you can pay for it no problem ! Been diagnosed with cancer, heart disease etc. you get treated. No one will tell you you have exceeded coverage and send bills for thousands of dollars to your mail box. No one will have to make a decision on if they can afford to take their children to the hospital/Dr. If they get sick.
Our system has it's problems but I will take our system over yours any day !!!!!!!

DMJ 0340 reacted to Adrienne21 in Cant we all just get along ?!
I came to this site because I thought that this would be a wonderful place where I would be surrounded by a group of my own peers. I have posted many questions that I had questions about or had minimal knowledge on. I have received very good advice and some advice I thought sounded nice, I followed up with my doctor on. I mean it is awesome to get advice from others, but who knows what best for you besides the person who placed this remarkable tool inside of us??
We have all been forewarned about the dangers of not following the rules that was given to us. If you have orders from your doctor by all means FOLLOW THEM. Don’t take matters into your own hands and when something bad happens, you freak out.
Everyone has an OPIOION!! Do you have to agree? NOT AT ALL. Most people who do cheat their bands/themselves often look for confirmation from another person who will come out of nowhere and agree with them. I feel personally some question should not be asked on this site; especially ones that promote controversy in a bad way.
Example, I was just banded and I am hungry. So I ate some lunch meat.< /p>
You were advised against it but insisted on doing your own thing. How can you expect not to receive feedback with someone trying to make you accountable for your mistake? Not everyone is going to say something nice to glorify your wrong-doing. Before you judge a statement try to understand it for the other persons prospective. Let’s just go back to being helpful by sharing experiences that are helpful to one another. I am almost 90% sure no one on here is purposely being malicious but simply helpful.
Always remember, When you are typing it’s hard to tell someone’s tone. So when in doubt, just say thank you for your input and move one.
(I had to vent and I wanted to share with everyone. I don’t like seeing my friends being verbally attacked for stating an opinion. Sometimes you just have to learn how to AGREE TO DISAGREE. An opinion is like an Ass, Everyone has one and you are not always going to like sh*t it comes with. ) Have a nice night.

I have been doing the couch25K program and let me first say that I am not a runner! Never have been. I am not that person who can get on a treadmill and "forget" after a while that they are running. If anything, the longer I run the more I am aware that I am running. However, yesterday this girl ran 20min straight with no break. HUGE accomplishment in my books!!

    Mine does.
What he is doing is filling you until you tell him you feel occluded. Than he tells you to continue drinking as he takes out some Fluid. The feedback should be 1) that the Fluid is indeed passing but more importantly 2) that the fluid is moving much slower as if you can feel it in your upper pouch moving through the stoma. Otherwise it just passes through without any restriction which sets you back.
Don't be alarmed by him keeping the needle in. He is trying to minimize the # of times he accesses the port which 1) reduces risk of infection and 2) reduces the # needle insertions into your port to reduce any breakdown in the port that can lead to leaks.
Don't hesitate to ask q's. Not sure if this is your first or subsequent fill and he just assumes you know or he's just overlooking the education component to getting a fill.

I really thought my first NSV would be finally buttoning up my favorite pair of jeans that I haven't been able to wear in over a year. I keep trying, but ... no luck yet!
But I did however realize today that since being banded two months ago, I have not once gone to the dollar store to buy candy!!
I used to go to the dollar store on a weekly basis (at the very least) and buy about $5 worth of candy. And if you've ever been to the dollar store, you'll know that is a lot of candy. I would start eating it in the car on the way home, and I'd keep eating it until it was gone. Doing some simple math ... five boxes of candy, 7 servings or so per box, that makes, uh, 35 servings of candy a week!!
But, I have not even had the desire to go out and buy candy. My intense food cravings have almost vanished, and when I do have something sweet, I definitely find it far sweeter than I used to. I am so proud that I'm finally candy free!

Yeah I don't like being hairless down there. I am not hairy down there at the best of times (yay for Asian genes!) but I honestly don't dig the hairless look. I feel like I'm prepubescent!
So I keep it prettily trimmed and neat and keep my lady garden protected by the dark forest.

Honestly, I spend more money on food. I may eat less but healthy food is far more expensive than cheap food. It cost a lot less to snack on a Little Debbie than an apple and Peanut Butter. Cheap fatty ground beef is a lot cheaper than chicken breast, too. Fresh veggies and fruit add quite a bit to the food bill, too.

I was going to say the same as Mis. I spend more money on food than I did before. A grass fed, organic melt-in-your-mouth sirloin steak is going to cost more than a KFC meal, and if I can only eat a little bit, I want the food to be great quality and great tasting. So I don't actually think I've saved money on food at all.
