I'm doing the Vega One nutritional shakes. They are more expensive but the taste is great. I justify the expense because I am not spending money on food and this is only going to happen once in my lifetime. AND I deserve to have a shake I like.

Do your self a favor and follow your surgeons protocol do not start the preop diet earlier than you have to I'm on day six and have 8 days left of Protein Shakes and 2 cups of veggies a day and although it's not as terrible as I expected it's tough knowing I have 2 weeks of liquids after surgery as well. You miss chewing real food. Lol.

Agree with @@JamieLogical and you'll probably be doing it for at least a few days and quite possibly some weeks after. Eat healthy real food at this point. You'll do better on for surgery if you're healthy going in. I read a lot of books too (still am) and this forum is very helpful.

I started my pre-op diet today. I wouldn't do this any longer than I had to, it's brutal. (This is my second time on the diet since my first surgery was cancelled) I had a headache for 4 days straight last time.

Have you met with a surgeon yet? A lot of times their office is very skilled at reading these requirements and will help you make sure they meet all of them.

Usually means once a month and depending on which BCBS you have it can be anywhere between 3 & 6 months. For example I have BCBS through Emblem health in Ny and it was 3 months worth of weigh ins @ my surgeons office. Good luck!

No regrets at almost 2 years out. Best feeling in the world to not carry around that extra weight and not worry about swollen ankles, and possible health issues in the coming years. Yes, it's a change in your life, but these changes are a lot better than changes for diabetes or heart attack.

I agree. I had to do the 6 month thing my insurance and at first I just had the attitude I'm just going to do this and get it over with. But about a month into it I really started to evaluate what I was doing to myself and that this surgery isn't a fix it is a necessary tool for me to be healthy and thin. The class was so helpful!! My surgery is on February 18 and so far I'm down 22lbs from the class and pre op diet. Start your pre op and you will probably lose some of your appetite for addicting foods such as In and Out. Good luck!

You totally need that pre-op diet. It shrinks your liver so that your doctor can move it in order to get to your stomach. If you don't do this, your operation might get postponed or your doc might inadvertently hurt you. I lost about 5% of my body weight before the procedure, and it was a good kickstart to losing all this crappy excess weight.
I agree with @@Sharon1964 that you need to look at what food means to you. Maybe talk to a therapist who specializes in WLS. My personal advice is that if those burgers are that much on your mind, then you should seriously rethink this operation. It really is an either/or decision. Otherwise, you are not going to have a good time on what can otherwise be an amazing journey.

Ill be honest, this really isnt the place to ask for money. Many many of us are in debt over our surgeries anyway. We also have to find creative ways to fund our own plastic surgery. Secondly, you dont have a profile set up, no name, no whereabouts, no pictures, no email surgery dates, surgeon, nothing , so as far as we know you dont really exist as a WLS patient. Even your go fund me page has no name or contact information. The picture on your go fund me page looks great but it shows no skin issues. I would suggest talking with various plastic surgeons in your area, they do much work at cost or for free to needy people on a regular basis, also you can lok into contact the WLSFA ( Weight Loss Surgery Foundation of America, they give grants for WLS and for Plastic surgery as a resultof WLS. They help a lot of people every year. Your doctor can read about it below.

chubbsey1 reacted to lslblues in Organize pre-op, be flexible post-op
This has been shared before, but just wanted to share my experience. I am a planner and like to have things organized. I had the lists of things I'd need post-op and wanted to be organized so I didn't have to run around trying to get things. I had the Protein shakes I love all lined up. The Protein supplement I liked and the broth I liked. Vitamins, etc.
One thing I learned very quickly is both your tastes and what your stomach can handle can be very different after surgery. I LOVED Premiere Protein Shakes before surgery and naively thought it would be easy to get my protein in - just 3 wonderful shakes a day. After surgery, I gag just thinking about drinking one.
After forcing down RTD Protein Shakes for the first 2 days, I knew I had to find something different. Unflavored protein in Jello - hit. Unflavored protein in Gatorade - hit. Making my own shakes with soy milk - hit. Drinking room temp Water (which I used to hate) instead of cold - hit.
I had read enough about "your tastes may change and your stomach may not be able to handle the same things" to not have bought 60 days worth of stuff. But it was kind of a shock when my pre-op plans weren't working.
All that to say - be flexible post-op. Yes plan ahead, but if something isn't working, try something else. I'd definitely recommend having some unflavored Protein powder that you can add to a variety of things handy.

Hi all, I've been lurking for a few weeks and finally made an account. I had my appt at NYU Langone with Dr. Schwack yesterday and hopefully I'll be approved for gastric sleeve in late June or July (my insurance requires 6 months of weigh-ins unfortunately.) Hope to get to know everyone either online or offline in the coming months and year. :-)

@Debranua. I had my VSG surgery @ NYU Langone with Dr Christine Ren in October and I couldn't be happier with my decision. Dr Ren is excellent and the officer staff are great. My surgery was uneventful but it helped a lot that the nursing staff at Langone were so professional and caring.
I started my journey last March and went thru the 6 months of visits with my primary doctor I remember feeling like it would take forever but before I knew it we were submitting to my insurance for approval and they did on the first try. I just went in last week for my 3 month Followup appointment and all my blood work was good and I feel great. I eat about 3/4 cup of food at one time and have 3 meals a day and maybe a snack of a great yogurt. I 've loss 55lbs since my surgery and dropped 4 pant sizes.
I exercise mostly walking 4 miles 4 or more times a week. All the snow has been a challenge with my exercise.
I come up with more reasons to delay exercising but I know that the answer to long term maintenance is exercise and getting my Water in. Your suppose to get 64 ounces in but I usually get 48 to 54 ounces a day. I think I'll do better when it gets warmer
Good luck with your journey I hope you'll be as happy as I am with your decision.
