hockeywife91 got a reaction from DELETE THIS ACCOUNT! in Carb Cycling- An Experiment Gone Right!
Thanks for the suggestions. And yes, we absolutely need to tweak it for a bandster lifestyle. I actually did put Peanut Butter in my Protein Shake, but I only put 1 1/2 tsp in, so the carb amt was only 2 grams . I assumed I would need more than that, so that's why I had the pita chips and hummus later (it was also a good excuse to have some, since they are my new addiction)
Today is my high carb day and low fat, so instead of using peanut butter, I'm going to use PB2. I've heard wonderful things about PB2, so I had my hubby drive me all over town yesterday to 5 different stores before I found it...lol You can also get it online, but I was being impatient  It has 1 gram of fat for 1 tbsp., 3 grams of carbs, and 23 cals. I may have some toast a little later after my band loosens, to up my carbs a bit. Not sure what I'm going to do for the rest of the day to up my carbs. Perhaps a potato with dinner.

Thanks Missy! I've come across several of your comments on several other threads and I truly value your opinion. You have done so well and seem to be such a caring person. I'm excited to see how carb cycling works for me. I'll let you guys know!

No I think you did great and made great food choices. It won't hinder it all!
I'm like you, high carb days are much easier for me. I struggle to even get in enough calories on low carb days.

Thanks! I just recently tried Hummus for the first time and now I'm hooked. Half of my carbs came from the pita chips (18g), but it was well worth it. Tomorrow is high carb day. I love carbs, so it should be an easier day for me. That being said, today wasn't as difficult as I thought it would be.
Oh and I can't eat 30 mins. after I wake because of medications I take. And when I can finally have something, I have to have liquids, because my band is way too tight in the morning to eat solids. So I ate my carbs (pita chips) as a morning snack. I don't think that will hinder this program...I hope.

I know I said I was going to start this a couple weeks ago, but things happened and I wasn't able to start. So today I finally started. Low carb day for me. This is how it went:
    Breakfast: Protein Shake
    Snack: Pita chips and Hummus
    Lunch: chicken salad
Dinner: Lean ground beef patty with low fat smoked gouda and 1/4 avocado
    Total count for the day:
    Calories: 846
    Carbs: 38
    Fat: 42
    Protein: 84
So, I think I did pretty good. What do you guys think? Any advice/tips are appreciated. I'm so ready to break this plateau. I've been stuck at this weight for almost a month now.

Yes, call your surgeon. In the meantime, try sucking on some ice chips or sugar free popsicles.

I've been using the EAS Advantedge pre-made Protein Shakes, but I'm getting very bored with them. I have one every day for Breakfast since that's about all I can get down first thing in the morning. I'm looking for a Protein Powder that tastes good, or has no taste, so I can add some variety in my shakes . Some recipes would be helpful as well

I've been reading the book and I'm definitely going to start this on Thursday. I figure by then, I'll be done with the book and will have my shopping list made out. I've already done my shopping for this week, so today isn't really a good day for me to start, especially since it Mother' Day. This sounds very doable, and I'm looking forward to seeing the scale move again. I had gained a couple pounds this past week, but have already dropped that this weekend, so I'm ready to keep on losing ...no more gains for me !

If I may make a suggestion....I'm not sure where you are with getting adjustments to your band, BUT for me, getting the hunger under control is a seperate issue vs exercise. I thought I could exercise my weight off too for the first couple of years being banded.
Then I continued to read on here and other places..from the one's I found who were very succesful at getting their hunger under control......I forgot/refused to do the ONE thing that's important....ADJUSTABLE lapband. Otherwise, why have adjustable band surgery?? I could have just exercised and ate like I had for all my life and NOT LOST longterm weight. If you're really as hungry as you describe, I know what I would be doing....getting an adjustment! I realize everyone's different, but this was very, very important to me. I'd exercise 300-500 calories, then be hungry, and eat everything I had just burned...or maybe even more. NOW, with a properly adjusted band, I am NOT hungry....and I've burned 3000 calories today just exercising....between biking and mushroom hunting.
Hopefully, this comes across in the way its intended.....a supportive suggestion. Get the hunger under control, the exercise and weightloss will follow. I wish you the very best in your journey. Never, ever give up! You're worth it!

First off, did you get fatter or did you get heavier? Two totally different things. The fact that your muscles are sore, means you worked them and they retain Water during the healing process. Happens to me all the time,
Now, you bumped your eating up to 1600, yet you list your height at 5.1 and a BMI of 31.2 which would give you a (BMR) basal metabolic rate of 1518 calories a day. What that means is that your normal 1400 calories a day, you are only running a 115 calorie deficit, and since a pound of fat is 3500 calories you will lose a little over a pound a month. When you bumped it to 1600 you are probably eating more calories than you are burning. But, once again, your WEIGHT gain is not fat, it is Fluid retention.
I'm not being judgmental, I am simply doing the math. I am nearly a foot taller than you, and my BMR is 2500, and I only eat 1300 calories, and about half of my exercise calories (3 hours of spin class a day, plus biking when the weather permits) and I still stall on weight loss. I lost the same 2 pounds about 5 times during the month of March.
As for hunger, according to your profile you have been banded since June 2012, I would suggest going back to your Dr. and discussing it with them or seeing a NUT.
Keep the faith, you will eventually get where you want to be.

Yes, I sometimes hiccup when I've hit my soft stop. Or I'll sigh. Then I know its time to stop eating.

Fortunately, mine didn't. But yes, I should have followed the diet before-hand and if I had to do it over, I would follow it. Since I had surgery Jan. 10th, I guess I was so wrapped up in the holidays, I completely forgot about the pre-diet.
I cannot stress how important it is to follow your doctor's guidelines. The couple of times when I didn't, I paid for it dearly. I thought I could eat something a little more solid when I was on liquids, it was extremely painful and I ended up throwing it up. It's so not worth it. Do what your doctor and nutritionists say and everything will be fine.

Yes, I stocked up on lots and lots of low fat creamy Soups. The first couple days they have you on Clear liquids only, so be sure to have low sodium Soup broths, sugar free jellos, sugar free popsicles (loved these because I had a sore throat from the tube they put down your throat). I also like the EAS AdvantEdge Carb Control Protein drinks, you can get them at Walmart or HEB by the vitamins/pharmacy. They're high in Protein about 17 grams and only have 3 carbs and 0 sugar. It's a great way to get some protein in, especially when you're only getting an ounce at a time.

Yes, but I had to postpone my 2nd fill for two weeks because I was out of town and that was the soonest I could get in to the doctor because of my schedule. If I had got my fill when I was originally scheduled, it wouldn't have been as bad because I wasn't very hungry at that point. But waiting another 2 weeks put me over the edge a bit. I still stuck to my plan, but it was difficult at times.

I just got back from GNC and purchased my first Quest bars. I bought 5 different flavors and I'm looking forward to trying them. The lady at GNC told me that the Quest bars are their most popular bars. I also heard if you put the cookie dough one in the microwave for a few seconds, it is heavenly. I'm going to try that tonight!

I agree with the others. It seems that your caloires in are still too high. And yes, definitely exercise. Even if its walking for 5 minutes and increasing it a little each day. I walk approx. 5 - 6 miles a day, but rarely do I do it all at once. Every little bit helps. Just get up and move
