  1. We made a recipe section just for gluten free. Please add and share recipes as you find them! http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1061-gluten-free/
  2. I was able to eat most things by 4 months out. I never really even had trouble with raw veggies like lettuce, though steak was one of the last things I added and I don't have it much. I have a hard time with Korean hot pot and Vietnamese beef pho because the beef is really chewy. But everyday "western" food generally hasn't been an issue since around 4 months. I don't have much bread, rice, potatoes, or pasta because they are too filling.
  3. Thanks! I don't think of myself as the sexy slinky type, but the moves remind me of when I was a kid and used to dance to the radio. I think this kind of movement will help me get over myself a little and have fun. It's "safe" because everyone is looking forward and I don't feel like I stand out. It for sure helps that I'm not the biggest one in the room! Though now that I have gone, I'd say I would have been able to do most of it even before losing the weight and I regret that I let my weight hold me back from doing so many fun things.

Leftover dinner A salad with some fish or chicken Cottage cheese with tomato and ground pepper Plain Greek yogurt with a teaspoon of jam An egg, fried scrambled or poached, sometimes with avocado Crustless quiche with ham or crab. There are lots of recipes for this kind of thing all over this site. A Protein shake
  6. Well her surgeon had her progress a couple weeks earlier than some of us but she is talking less than 2 ounces of food total. Soft fish and soft potato. I was eating similar things at that stage, just blended first. I didn't realize the RNY progression was so different. By the way I wasn't hungry for 6 months and had to use alarms to remind myself to eat. It was so strange and liberating! But I like my new smaller appetite too.
  7. I don't force myself but I do tend to give myself more chances to drink and to drink a little more than I would prefer when I do. Like when I am running on the treadmill I try to finish 16 ounces. When I wake up in the night to go to the bathroom I drink a cup. When I take my Vitamins I drink a whole cup instead of just enough to get them down. I have coffee and tea. I do think it is super important early out though.
  8. It's harder for me now because I have no trouble swallowing food or water. It's almost like before surgery except I get really full. I get full on less food when I eat fast, which means I won't meet my protein goals. So I actually slow down to try to fit more in. It helps to be thinking that way. It also takes longer to eat dense protein so there is a little bit of a righteous glow about knowing I am eating a proper meal instead of a handful of crunchy carbs or easy liquids.
  9. Went to my first zumba class today and I loved it! The only thing is I am not graceful and I don't pick up dance steps easily, though I do have a good sense of rhythm. How many classes until you knew most of the moves? The instructor doesn't really stop to show us the moves because most people are regulars. I just tried to keep up and at least keep moving. Any tips? I am going to look at some YouTube videos but anything else I can do? I get two more classes at the intro rate of 3 for 15 but I have to use them by Jan 20 so I will get a little more practice. I would never in a million years have tried this before losing weight with the sleeve. I had a grin on my face the whole time and was so proud of myself!
  10. Most people here use MyFitnessPal.com or mynetdiary.com. There is also sparkpeople.com and thedailyplate.com and calories.about.com. Be careful because most of them give you recommendations that are very inaccurate for bariatric patients.
  11. In case nobody answers make sure you check out "Attention Australian Sleevers" in this same forum.
  12. I was given a very vague plan. Also in Australia. The US has a lot more structure. I compiled the list in my signature and made a more structured plan for myself using the resources there. Eggs, you might look at that list or get another dietitian who specializes in bariatric patients to give you more guidance.
  13. Is Prilosec a proton pump inhibitor (PPI)? A PPI like nexium works in a totally different way from an antacid. Many of us need a PPI at least for the first 6 months, if not for life. Some of our stomachs make the same amount of acid as they needed when we had our full sized stomachs.
  14. Lots of people don't dump with RNY and of the people who do, it can wear off over time. Wouldn't it be disappointing if you got it hoping sweets would make you sick, only to find out they don't? Regardless if the surgery you have, you will likely need to learn to control your sweet tooth on your own.
  15. I got the flex because I wanted to wear a watch too, and it's smaller. I wear it on my dominant band, but you can tell it you are doing that on the settings and it will account for it. The flex is waterproof so you can technically wear it while doing dishes etc, but it can get a bit funky so don't. Also don't wear it super tight. Your skin needs to breathe. I actually prefer to wear it so the clasp is on the top of my wrist and the sensor is underneath. It fits me better.
  16. Enjoy each change as it comes along. Use these boards for support. Try new recipes -- even in the liquid phase! Check out http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1052-recipe-sharing/ Read some good books. I always recommend "Emotional First Aid Kit" and "Success Habits of Weight Loss Surgery Patients"? Both of which are available as paperback or ebooks. Always be learning. Use the first 6 months to really learn about your surgery, your body, exercise, and the way you want to live the rest of your life.
  17. You can also go into your settings and turn off a bunch of the nutrients If you don't care about them as much. It was doing my head in trying to get all of the numbers perfect.

  23. This could be a soft or regular food but I'm putting it in regular because it is a side dish with no Protein. But I get a craving for it and it's worth it about once a week. You could add summer squash too but I find it covers up the mushroom taste which is what I really want. This is absolutely beautiful with morels if you are lucky enough to have some. Ingredients: Mushrooms, whatever kind you want and as many as you want. I do 3-4 white mushrooms for a single serve. Half as many onions by weight, or as many onions as you like (none if you like). I do half a small onion for a single serve. Half to 1 tbsp butter, oil, or margarine (butter really works best, with oil you need to watch the temperature). Use more if you are making a lot. Slice the onion into rings and slice the rings in half. Slice the mushrooms into relatively thick slices. Maybe 3-4 slices per mushroom depending on the size. Melt the butter in a heavy frying pan on medium-high and turn down the heat to medium. Add the onions (they should quietly sizzle but not go crazy -- if it's too loud they are too hot). and sauté until translucent, stirring often. Add the mushrooms keeping them in a single layer. Let them cook for 3-4 minutes until they start to shrink (this is called sweating them) and change color. Flip them over. They should be golden on the cooked side. Turn off the heat and let cook 2-3 more minutes. Sprinkle with salt and eat ASAP. If you had butter left in the pan that didn't get absorbed, use a little less next time. You really don't need much.
  24. This is the top of the Recipe Sharing section: http://www.bariatricpal.com/forum/1052-recipe-sharing/ I will move this thread to the Purée sub-section and anyone who is subscribed will still be subscribed.
  25. Please check out the link in my signature to see a lot of different diet guidelines for post-op from reputable surgical practices. I'm sorry you are not getting much guidance. Look for the Australia Sleevers thread too for more local support. It is under Support Groups / Local / Australia.
