Had my first fill today. Had 5cc from surgery date June 21st and saw Dr this morning. They added 2cc today. Have lost 17lbs including the 2 week preop diet so I feel positive about that. Am hoping this extra 2cc will slow down my hunger. Since my surgery I have been on this site and honestly it's helped so much to know I'm not alone. Lots of great information. The main point I do understand and received from here is that it's up to me to work the band. I gotta do the work and make the good decisions everyday. The band won't do that for me. There is no easy street. ???Š One day at a time.

Yikes! 18 fills? Hard to have compassion for the bandsters who've had 2 and complain about being hungry all the time? But, you're a standup guy and offer great advice without judgment.

As you lose weight and your stomach becomes leaner the band can feel looser. This happened to me often when I would get a fill, lose weight, then 'lose' restriction. As you continue to lose weight and get fills this will happen less frequently until you find a good balance and reach your green zone.

I too weigh myself every morning and every night. It keeps me honest and accountable.

I weigh myself twice a day, every morning, and every evening. I know that whatever I weight at night I can expect a 2 lb. decrease in the morning. I don't think this is a good thing, I'm just being honest I'm a scale *****.

You know what's funny? My first year of junior high, the gym teacher started doing exactly that. I flat out REFUSED to get on the scale. She tried to demand on get on- I told her that she wasn't my doctor or my parent so it wasn't her business what I weighed.
Of course, she called my parents to complain. Thankfully, my dad totally stuck up for me. He told her it wasn't any of her or the school's business what I weighed and that she needed to back off me.
I never did get on the scale year at school- or any other year.
My dad was (and still is!) so awesome

If only WLS was an option for me back when I was 13 or 14. I imagine I could/would be a very different person today. My self esteem would be different. Maybe less shy and perhaps I would not have hated School so much and who knows what could've been. I was 150 pounds in 5th grade. I was teased a lot and was the heaviest kid in my class. I can even remember the gym teacher snickering when he weighed me. I dreaded School and did not have many friends. I often thought my biggest problem in my life at the time was my weight and suicide thoughts came and went and if it weren't for my family I don't know if I'd be here typing this.
I agree it is a case by case situation but I think it would require a full staff of Docs, Nurses, Nutritionists and Counselors with full involvement of parents.

I might majorly regret this, but this is what I posted on her fb page:
"I agree about not giving people a free ride, but according to my BMI I am obese. I work two jobs, go to grad school full time and I contribute a lot to society by taking care of sick people every day. I also work out at least 3+ days a week. I can't even tell you how many diets I have been on and how hard I have worked to lose weight. Obesity is generally a result of food addiction, lack of access to quality food due to poverty or just lack of knowledge. I have several patients who struggle with their weight, have tried to diet and can't afford going to a nutritionist, go to therapy, join weight watchers or are working 3 jobs to keep a roof over their heads. If obesity was categorized as a disease these people might get help, lose weight, decrease their chances of getting type II diabetes, CHF, depression, and multiple other obesity related co-morbid diseases. Decreasing their chances of all of the above reduces future medical bills, reduces unemployment, and reduces their burden on society. It's about the big picture, not the short term costs."

Your life would be better if you unfriend and block her on your FB account. Life is too short to deal with callous individuals.

I think it's a disease. Alcoholism is classified as a disease. The only difference between an alcoholic and an obese person is their drug of choice- alcohol vs. food. Plus, like with many diseases, they have found numerous genetic and environmental links predisposing people towards obesity. As many of us can attest, it definitely runs in families too.
I also believe it's an incurable disease. The tendency to be obese is always there, we just need/have treatments to help keep it under control.
I happen to have two incurable diseases- MS and obesity. I give myself shots three nights a week to control the MS and I have the Lap Band to control the obesity. What's the difference? Just different tools to manage different diseases.
    Just my opinion.

You can do it! And it is worth every drop of sweat and tear of joy and frustration to feel happy with the person you see in the mirror and in pictures. I'm glad to know I can encourage and support others in this journey.

Thank you this means so much to me more than words could ever explain. There are times where i look in the mirror and just cry. I still think to myself after i get the lapband im still gonna look the same. I know you have to work hard at it i just hope i have the strength to do it. Thank you for encouraging me and inspiring me. I cried when you said you could cross your legs with ease i would love to do that. Yes its the little things other people take for granted that we all wish we could do! Thank you with tears in my eyes!

Recently, I began to ponder all the amazing things this surgery has given me. I absoutely would get a LapBand again if I had to go back in time. It has been the best thing that has ever happened to me...with the exception of hubby and kids obviously. So I thought I would make a list of all of these things. I know that reading stuff like this helped me to encourage me when I was starting out.
    Thank you LapBand for...
    1. self-confidence-I now look in the mirror or at picture and am happy with the person looking back at me. Seeing the results of my efforts is priceless...I have reached goals I thought were just dreams.
    2. control- I no longer feel controlled by food or the need to eat. Not being hungry or feeling deprived has allowed me to make good food choices MOST of the time.
    3. health- I am healthier than I have ever been. My resting pulse is in the 60s, my blood pressure is low, my cholesterol is improving.
    4. the desire to exercise- I exercise 6 days a week and have gotten to the point that if I miss my workout my day just doesn't seem right. I love the way it makes me feel and the way it is reshaping my body.
    5. energy- I have so much energy to do active things with my children and family.
    6. the ability to wrap a towel around myself after a shower!!
    7. the ability to bend down and tie my shoes or buckle a pair of cute sandals without too much effort...and painting my toes is easier too.
    8. not being hot and sweaty all the time
    9. shopping in any store I want and any department of that store.
    10. wearing a bikini...even if it is only in the back yard with my hubby and kids.
    11. crossing my legs under a table with ease.
    12. cute clothes...I've become a bit of a shopper as of late
    13. knee high boots!!!
    14. shopping at victoria's secret
and of course I know there is plenty more that just won't come to mind.
I started out at 255 and am now 175. I have 25 to go!!
I have lost a total of 57 inches over my whole body...10.75 in my waist, 8 in my hips, 7 in my chest, 3 in both arms, 3.75 in both thighs, 2.75 in both calves, (it doesn't add up cause I'm not listing it all).
I couldn't be happier with the results. I look forward to reaching the next 10 pounds lost and then onto the final goal....It can be done. Don't get discouraged!!

What do you thank YOUR lapband for???

Yup. food is an addiction like any other addiction. That's why I hate the attitude of those not addicted who say, oh just shut your pie hole and you'll lose the weight. OK then, just stop drinking and you'll be OK, or just stop shooting up and you'll be OK.
Our addiction is the hardest one to overcome. You can stop drinking, you can stop drugs, you can stop gambling. You can't stop eating. Every day, every moment, we are faced with our addiction and forced to make a choice as to whether or not to give in to that addiction.
I'm so proud of everyone on this forum and even those who are not. Kudos to all the people who struggle daily to get healthier and overcome this addiction.

I was just telling someone the other day that I've spent 4 of the past 5 years NOT seeing my husband due to deployments/training, etc...so I'm used to this...one of our favorite Army wife mottos "sexually deprived for your freedom..."
He has not and will not see any progress pics until I see him at his mid-tour leave. It will have been 9 months since he left and 7 months since I was banded. I'm really working toward a total of 75 pounds lost. Ambitious, but I'm motivated.

just having WLS wont make one automatically lose weight...although on some of the others you can and you can on this one....but one must eat better foods and YOU so early out yet...please let your insides heal.....and continue on your doctors post op diet..you will lose if you adhere to that and eat good foods......to gain weight, one must eat more calories than they burn off....i am sure you are not doing that at this point..in my case since i dont own a scale, let me say that if you are losing inches, you are losing weight....YOU lost weight...i see no reason to be discouraged....need to get that attitude thinking good thoughts......or it could harbor you in the
future........day by day....do what you can and do the best you can.......and so what if you lose slow.....you didnt gain it all over night..
    hang in there.

The average weight loss with the band is 1-2 pounds per week. You've exceeded that average. How can that possibly be disappointing?
You have to have realistic expectations of both yourself and your band.
    Best wishes.

I'm praying for her too. So I think as soon as she is up to it she will post. She has been through a lot and hopefully she just needs some recuperation time.
Doctor patient confidentiality would be a reason her doctor wouldn't let us know how she is but I suppose we could all wish her well and hopefully someone who knows her personally will see these posts and pass the word to her.
