Shrinking Violets -- April 07 Bandsters
Shawna, I had surgery on 4 17 and had a fill yesterday and the same thing happened!!!! After about 15 or 20 minutes she finally got it. She must have stuck me 8 or 9 times at least. I have a bandaid on it so it is covering up the stick marks. I will have a nice assortment of bruises. But the amazing thing was that it didn't hurt!!! She did numb me first. I could feel a BUNCH of pressure, but that is it. She was persistant and it paid off in the end. I got 3 cc's, wouldn't have believed it if I hadn't seen it. I also had a liter of fluid drained off my hernia reapir area, and for some reason I got woozy while she was doing it, so yesterday I didn't eat much, I am sure I will tell in the next day or two. I am going back in two weeks for her to drain the hernia, and she said she could give me a fill if I needed it!!!! I feel like I have the BEST Dr. who doesn't give up and understands what fills mean. Although she does weigh about 100 pounds! I can't sleep so I guess i am rambling. Need to try sleeping again, work will come very early!!! Have a good day and nice weekend!!!!!!!!!!!! Jane

Terry, How do they know how much is in there and how much is gone? I get my first fill hopefully thursday, not worried about pain, but find the whole thing odd. Do they think your band or the port/tubing is leaking? You are doing great!!! Jane

I can no longer be called a shrinking violet. I will just be a violet for a while. I have continually gained weight for three or four weeks. I still am thankful I have lost what I have don't get me wrong, but when you spend $15,000 for the band you expect more. Now I do have my first fill Thursday, so I am sure that will do the trick. I think I am just having mind games, because when I had lap band I had a hernia repair, and have had problems with that. I also have been pmsing for almost two weeks because I am late! Did anyone else have this problem, I haven't started my period since I have been lap banded. Oh well it seems all I do is complain! I need to stop and look at the bright side! Jane

Okay I think I win on the clothes. I have a couple of skirts and one shirt when I was in high school. I will be 44 in a week. They are size 9, one is a Gloria Vanderbilt A line skirt and the other is a seersucker skirt that I just love. The shirt is another seersucker, but I remember when I was a sophmore, my best friend and I went shopping with our moms alone, and then called each other when we got back and we both got the same shirt, and since I am so sentimental, I still have the shirt. I wonder if the other girl does (she is still my best friend). What memories, if nothing else this brought back wonderful memories for me!!!! Thanks!! Jane

I tried to post this morning, but couldn't get through. I gained one pound this week. Monday is weigh in day for me. So far I am up 3 pounds the past two weeks. When I saw the Dr. last Thursday I was still down 17 pounds since I last saw her, so she is okay with that. My problem is that I am eating WAY TOOO MUCH. I have no restriction, and I feel like I am reverting back to my old ways. I have a fill scheduled for the 24 of the May, so that is soon. Plus I am starting back to work tomorrow. I wish I had another week or two off work to recover from this hernia repair, but I don't, and if I did I would probably just eat. Don't feel great, so I am just kind of laying around watching tv, and thinking about food. Plus I am ready to start anyday now, I am late, but that is too be expected I am sure after the lap band and the hernia repair. Maybe I am just on a low spot, and this will pass. I am so glad that I have this site to unload. I live by myself and am not dating anyone right now, so only the dust bunnies hear me, and I am not sure they are good listeners. It is nice to have the encouragement of Tracy to drink our water, and a sounding board for Pam to talk of her Dad, not to mention Kat who keeps up inspired while handling her struggles with words of knowledge not to mention wisdom. I am glad I found this site and look forward to reading all the posts and if I don't comment know that it is a silent bit of encouragement or a small prayer. Jane

I just took an interesting survery about weight loss. I believe it was through a company working for "Self" magazine. It really made me think, one of the things I just thought was a quirky thing on my part is the fact I don't like my food to touch. This survery sort of alluded to the fact that it is part of an eating disorder. I didn't have any of the other quirky things people do with their food. I was just wondering if maybe other people shared this. Jane

I went to the Dr. this morning and no fill. Not really surprised though. In two weeks I will get one on the 24th of May. She also drained over one liter of fluid off my belly where she fixed the hernia. She said it would probably come back. Next time she says I need to have it done with an ultrasound to make sure they get all the fluid off. The reason I went was a pain I kept having on my left side (hernia on right) she said it was a stitch and could take 2 to 3 months for the pain to go away. I hope this is true. I can't imagine a stitch hurting this much, but I don't want to look for trouble. So at least I have a date for the fill which makes me feel better. After the appointment I thought, well at least I will get my moneys worth at brunch on Sunday naughty girl am I not??? Judy, Love the violet hair!! I am a hairdresser so I can get you more at wholesale if you want to keep that 'look'! but I think everyone is right that you should be the mascot!! Pamela, Very nice weight loss!!!!! Yeah!!!!!!!!!! Okay, I had surgery on the 17th of April and am not holding out hope for a fill, but there is a little hope? I am worried about the hernia repair and hope all goes well. I really think there is a problem there, obviously not huge or else i would be feeling really bad now, but my left side hurts and I can't take a bm without holding it. The odd thing is my hernia was on the right side. I don't think it has anything to do with my lap band because it is too high and the pain in in the bottom half. So keep fingers crossed that all is fine. Also a little fill would be great!!! Jane

I really was glad about the vitamin issues everyone shared. I think that is part of my problem! I am going to look into some of the water. I like my water with ice and from the tap. I am not nor have I have ever been a soda drinker, so I think that flavored water may taste like soda. I will go to the store and see. Do they make unflavored vitamin water? Thanks again!! Jane

I have an appointment with my Dr. on Thursday, and the woman who made the appointment said she could possibly do a fill that same day. I am having such a hard time today. I am supposed to go back to work next Tuesday, and as of today there is no way!!! My stamina and the way my tummy feels is miserable. I do remember the nutritionist saying something about needing B-12, does anyone know anything about it? Maybe that is my trouble just a B-12 defiency? Thanks for letting me babble!!! Jane

Okay, I am up 3 pounds this week. I can blame some on a scale change, but not 3 pounds. I am also having some complications (I think) from the hernia surgery that accompanied the band. I am waiting for the Dr. to call back with suggestions. I should have called last week, but I hate Dr.s. I really do, I am so bummed out right now. Jane By the way Laura your house looks neat!!! That is so exciting starting from scratch! You get to pick everything out don't you? Congrats!!!

My Doctor has BMI standards, not really weight per se. I am not sure what they are, but pretty high. I have a little over 200 pounds to lose and already have lost 60. I am getting impatient since I spent $15,000 of my money on the surgery. I just need a fill. When I think of how long I waited to have the surgery once I made up my mind a month really is nothing, and actually I am scheduled for a fill the 15th of May. I am having a little trouble with the hernia surgery I had in tandem with the lap band, so hoping that doesn't set me back with the fill. So Pamela I think it is up to the Dr. how much weight someone has before they will do the surgery. I know that I had a BMI of over 60 and she said that I had to get that down a bit before she could do it for sure laproscopically (sp). Basically I could have just made this very short and said I need a fill!!!! Jane

I came home from my mom and dads house Wednesday, I was obviously weighing on her scale, I try to just weigh on Mondays, but I have weighed the past few days and my weight keeps going up. I am now up 5 pounds!!!!!! I know for a few days I sort of ate more, but I don't have anything really fattening here. I have really be watching it the past two days and when I stepped on the scale today I just about died!!! Well tommorrow is a new day and a new weight that is official!!! thanks for letting me vent!! I think all or most of us got the band implanted empty. All of us are having to wait for our first fill. It is the actual fills that help us in our weight loss like you stated earlier. Jane

Jill, I had the same situation and the Dr. told me I could take advil. He told me not to take a lot, but it was okay. You might want to call your Dr.'s office and see if that holds true for you. It is amazing how diet, drugs, and fills differ depending on your doctor!! Jane

Pamela, I have been obsessing over one of the items you passed on!! Congrats!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Tracy, I am so glad you are spreading the good news of the band, I only wish that I had had someone to be an example, it is one thing to spread our fears and dreams on this thread, but another thing to talk to someone that has had is done personally. Still don't know anyone face to face that has had this done, and I am in a big city!! Well I found out that I can eat Quakes rice snacks, as a matter of fact I found out that I can have a small 3 ounce bag (that has 5 or 6 servings) in one sitting!!! Need that fill!!!!! Jane
