with leftovers! : roast duck from monday, mushrooms and asparagus from tuesday, and grated the very last of the parm all the way to the rind lol.
    302 calories...ate it all eventually!
**edit: ugh! totally forgot to log the arborio rice!! actual calorie count should be 377 calories

Ended up eating this instead- 185 calories

    todays lunch:
a scoop of last night's "leftovers" risotto, two asparagus spears and bacon-wrapped cod with lemon-garlic-caper sauce.
estimating 600 calories for the plate. ate ½ the fish, ½ the asparagus and almost all the risotto.
this was a little in the heavy and rich side, but still so yum. Mr. ate my leftovers PLUS his own portion that was like double my original portion, geez.

food for the day so far-
Breakfast- cottage cheese oatmeal pancakes with blueberry sauce (frozen blueberries tossed in a bit of cornstarch and Water and microwaved until thick and delicious), sautéed onion, bell pepper, and spinach topped with salsa. Oh, and a sugar free mocha coffee with half a vanilla Protein Shake in it (ate it all)
drank the rest of the Protein shake later on (not pictured)
Dinner- spinach ricotta hasselbeck boneless skinless chicken thighs and a berry salad with homemade balsamic dressing. Before and after pictures included. I did eat several berries and a small piece of chicken before I took my before picture

    Lazily written chicken recipe-
Ricotta, boneless skinless chicken thighs, spinach, onion, garlic, olive oil (about a tsp), mozzarella, and cheddar cheese. Measure everything else with your heart and judgement.
Preheat oven to 350. Heat pan over medium high heat. Mince onion and garlic, chop spinach. add oil to pan. Sautée onion, garlic and spinach until wilted. Add in ricotta and stir until melted. Remove from heat. Stir in mozzarella. Make slits in chicken thighs and stuff with ricotta mixture. Top with shredded cheddar and bake at 350 for 20 minutes. Turn heat up to 425 and cook another 15 minutes until top is bubbly and golden brown in spots (think caramel candy color)

Went to lunch with my mom today. This was the leftovers along with the untouched tortillas I took home. A kid told me it was “a whole dang meal” 😂
it was chicken with mushrooms, onions, spinach and melted cheese with rice, pico and sour cream.

the margaritas alone were like 800 cals! so warning to those drinking mixed drinks during weight loss phase! keep your calorie counts in mind!

    one of my margaritas!

In an air fryer or oven, can make cheddar cheese crisps in a few minutes (use parchment paper), and dip them in hummus. Yum! I ate those for forever lol.

4 months post-op I was really into cheese crisps. I would use all kinds of different cheese. One just has to put little piles (~2T) of shredded cheese on parchment paper, season them and air fry them 350°F until crispy. Then you could dip them in hummus or guacamole... Etc.

Tomo reacted to Arabesque in How strong are the gastric staples
They’re pretty strong. If they failed easily after surgery from simply straining while pooping or coughing they wouldn’t use them for any surgery. If they fail you’d have to have done something much more strenuous to your abdominal/upper digestive area or put a lot of strain on your tummy. If you follow the staged return to eating, not lift anything heavy before you’re allowed & don’t do any strenuous or jerking activities, you should be fine.
    Staple failures are very rare.

I’d probably give your surgeon a call. Is the area warm or red or more tender than your other wounds? What colour is the discharge? Could be an infection?

Hey @ShoppGirl, not sure if this has been discussed or not, but what are your thoughts about the GLP 1 drugs? I remember someone on Dr Weiner’s podcast saying how it stopped the food noise in her head & reduced her hunger. Dr Weiner has been doing a few podcasts about the medication which may be worth listening to. May be an avenue to consider especially has you have concerns & questions about proceeding with the Sadi & hunger is an issue for you.

food from the last week- lemon vegetable orzo and garlic cheese breadsticks (ate it all)
Sheppard’s pie, roasted red pepper ranch cucumber salad, and fresh pineapple (ate it all)
Not quite a frittata but spinach, bell pepper, chili powder caramelized onions, mushrooms, garlic, sharp white cheddar, with rosemary sea salt and saffron infused eggs alongside a slice of brioche toast (ate it all… I think?) The blue cup has light mocha iced coffee in it- drank all that.
steakhouse seasoned burgers- mine was on a Hawaiian roll with roasted red pepper mayo, pepper jack cheese, Vidalia onions, banana peppers, and pickles (lettuce and Tomato on the side) alongside Parmesan ranch smashed red potatoes. (Obviously didn’t eat it all)
Im still not counting calories right now but down another lb so I’m not worried about it.

Post cardiac rehab brunch- avocado brioche toast and poached egg with Sriracha and cucumber
also daughter’s bf’s birthday pie- white cranberry juice Gelatin with blue spirulina powder added then topped with whipped topping and strawberries in a store bought shortbread crust. Thankfully the gelatin wasn’t overly sweet and the tart was a nice balance. He loved it btw.

eggs have never been an issue until last year. Love omelettes and scrambled eggs were what i ordered if we went out for Breakfast. Oh devilled eggs. Used to make them a lot in the 70s can’t believe they’re still so popular. Somethings just always taste good. I do like a fresh prawn salad with a Marie Rose sauce … a prawn cocktail in other words. 😁
$65 for a salad. Yikes! This is what I don’t like. How we get caught with paying a lot for food or alcohol we just can’t eat or drink anymore or subsidising others’ meals (bill splitting). Think I recently shared about wanting to get a single glass of champagne for myself but was forced to join the group purchase of a bottle. I didn’t even have one full glass while they had almost 2 glasses each. My share cost me 1.5 x the price of a single glass I wanted to order. While lovely it was as an expensive bottle. And the bun less halloumi burger I once ordered. Charged the same $18 price & got a slice of Tomato, a small lettuce leaf & a slice of halloumi. Sigh!!

It sounds normal to me. Although I haven't had a gastric emptying test, I do get a little hungry after 2 hours. I usually eat every 2 to 3 hours as some of those above have mentioned.

It’s all about finding what works for you. For years I didn’t have breakfast & used to also say that eating breakfast made me hungry for the rest of the day & I would feel sort of blah after. Then I started having breakfast because I thought I should have something. Would deliberately work through that blah feeling & fight any urges to eat until dinner. Now I happily eat breakfast. I discovered that if I eat it after 8:30/9am I feel okay, not ready to eat again until about 1pm. However, if I eat at say 7:30am, I’m hungry much earlier, feel blah as before. Think that was always my problem because I used to eat breakfast at 5/5:30am. It was simply too early for me.
My window between eating gets shorter after the intital 4hr to 1pm lunch (3pm, 4:30ish, 6pm (dinner), 7pm) & is when I add my Snacks.
It may be when you eat, what you eat, how regularly you eat, whether you eat several small meals or three main meals, etc.

i've never had a gastric emptying test, but 2 hrs sounds about right for me to be ok/comfortable to eat something again after last eating.
BUT: this is the way *i* normally eat, so i dunno. IF i don't get distracted, i've normally been generally eating SOMETHING or other every 1-2 hours during my regular eating window since surgery (for the most part).
regular eating window == sometime after NOON to maybe 8-9 pm

I think a maintenance level of 2100 kcal/day for someone 5'7" who's had WLS would only work for someone who was super active - or was blessed with great metabolism. A dietitian I worked with years ago told me people who've lost a lot of weight almost always need about 300 +/- fewer calories to maintain their weight than a person of the same weight and stature who's never been obese. I heard that again from a nutrition professor last summer when I was auditing a university-level course on weight loss and obesity. There's some scientific explanation behind that that I can't remember at the moment, but it's disappointing - but that's the way it is, evidently.
that said, a couple of thoughts. First of all, you may or may not be done yet. After the first year, there were several times my weight loss seemed to stop and I'd think "well, I guess this is it..", and then I'd suddenly drop a couple of lbs. Also, you are very close to a normal BMI. Weight loss at that point is EXCRUCIATINGLY slow. I remember the last 20 lbs being a BEAR for me to lose. But I kept at it and finally got there.
