  1. This is more true than you think. A lot of people here are saying "Not my marriage", but I hate to tell you that for a lot of us who have been fat all of our lives, we aren't prepared for the temptations that will come when we are thin and fit. Ditto for our spouses who have built their identity around a fat partner.
  2. Acually Toritz, that happens on Friday.
  3. This was an extremely appropriate video.
  4. Give her the contact info for your surgeon, between the two of them they will figure it out.
  5. Before you up your calories, you mention that you are sticking to a cup of food, but what is in that cup, and how many calories?
  6. Night times are my downfall as well. Things that I use for the cravings are a small snack, strong decaf coffee. You would be surprised how decadent this combination can feel. Then there are the distractions, I play will play my guitar, play a video game, get involved in a movie or a book, walk on the treadmill or go sit in the hot tub. Long term, try to think about why this is happening, is it boredom? Anxiety? And try to deal with the root causes even if it means therapy.
  7. Cut and paste is a wonderful tool.

I'll have a strong cup of decaf and play a video game instead.
  9. My girls are 12 & 9, they are well aware of my struggles with my weight, but we sat them down and were honest with them. That I was going to have surgery to help me be healthy. They were both very supportive and more than once I have received warnings that I need to drink my Water because we are having dinner soon. My one daughter is adopted, and came from a home ruled by two hypochondriacs who instilled in her a terror of every sniffle, sneeze or Dr. visit. She has come a long way and my surgery was really a graduation exercise for her, two years ago I do not think she could have handled knowing the details, but we were very calm, discussed the procedure matter of factly and did not go into too many details. She did great.
  10. I would love to but can't, Spin cycles don't have speedometers and the resistance is variable so it is all about heart rate. But, with that said, in the last month my calories for a 45 minute class have ranged from 350 - 450. I can feel the difference after the work out, the higher the calories burned, the more tired my legs are. As for a HRM, I use a Garmin forerunner 405 CX that I have had since 2009, but I will probably replace it with a Garmin Edge 510 in March. I use the Garmin because I love being able to track my courses and display them on a map. Polar also has a really good reputation in the HRM field.
  11. I currently am eating mine, if I am hungry. I am only doing 1300 calories a day, and I have started doing spin class in preparation for bicycle season. There is no way I can only eat 1300 calories, burn another 4-500 in spin class and then expect to have any muscles left in my legs. A word of warning, be careful how you estimate your calories burned, I use a good HRM and even then take the results with a grain of salt. Most exercise machines and calorie estimation sites are way too generous with their answers. BTW, I am not exercising for weight loss, I am exercising for general fitness, and participation in a sport so I will slow my scale loss (Scale vs. Fat) by building muscle.
  12. There were people who reached out to you to help you get where you are today, they may have left, but you are here in their place. One day, you will leave, and those who you helped will remain to help train others.
  13. One of the things you are going to find is that the band interacts with each of us in an extremely individual manner, BUT there is a constant for most people, that if you follow the band rules, you will have a tool that will help you gain control of that aspect of your life. I have eaten my dinner, I am not hungry and won't be for several hours, but believe me I want to eat. Before the band, my physical hunger, and my head hunger would gang up on me and whip my ass and I would be in the kitchen foraging. The band dampens my physical hunger, giving me the ability choose not to eat. For some people like B-52 (If I understand his situation correctly), the band physically keeps them from overeating, for others like myself it doesn't. The important part for me is that while I can eat anything, for the first time in my life, because of the band I have the ability not to.
  14. May I respectfully disagree with you? You aren't describing a love of food, you are describing a love of eating. IMHO, the band freed me from a love of eating, while not disturbing my love of food.

  16. And this is why we need a delete button
  17. Focus on the prize of surgery, keep reminding yourself this is only temporary. Others have done it, you can do it.
  18. MALE PERSPECTIVE RANT Ok, you are ticked with your DH because he is excited that you are doing something about the weight and the unhealthy lifestyle that caused it, Oh and he gets to have a wife who is a hottie now? I suggest professional help. I love my wife more than life it's self, she is beautiful, inside and out and I would love her no matter what her size, but if you don't think that I thank the Lord God above every time I see her naked, then you are out of your freakin mind. Lose the fat for yourself, thank the Lord you have a partner who is excited and supporting you, rather than some of the a**hats that some people here have. Believe me, this is hard when you have support, talk to some of the people here who are doing it alone. RANT DONE. Please feel free to drag out the pitchforks and torches over my crass comments.
  19. And no, I am not talking about the size of my butt! Just looking at my ticker and based on my surgeon's first goal for me, I am over have way there, but as many veterans have warned me weight loss has slowed, but is still on a downward trend. It would be nice to extrapolate based on what I have lost so far as to how long it will take me to meet that goal, but WLS doesn't work that way. My spin classes have been giving me great cardio, and building my leg muscles but they have also been playing havoc with the scale. As my body retains water to deal with the micro tears that encourage new muscle growth, the scale stays the same (or climbs) for days on end, then one morning I will get up and have dropped 3-4 pounds from one night to the next. But if I am logging my food, and exercise I can pretty much ignore this by knowing what is real. Next step is adding in strength training, since I don't want a lot of upper body mass, low weights and lots of repetition will tone my upper body without making me look like the Hulk.
  20. Probably not, I felt my first 1cc fill for a little while but the swelling went down after a day or two. Common wisdom is 3-5 fill befrore restriction has been achived and of course it depends on how aggressive you Dr. is on the fills. I am 2.5 cc in a 10cc band, and I think I am starting to just outside the green zone, but who can tell.
  21. Don't apologize for feeling the way you do, just don't let it be an excuse for you to give up and cater your own pity party. Control what you can now that the situation exists and move forward.
  22. Check with your Dr. but on full liquid mine didn't tell me how much. Once I moved to mushies, it was 1/2 cup.
  23. I did the same thing before I got banded, I wanted to make sure I could follow the rules. One night half way through a new york strip, I pushed the plate away and said I am bored with chewing.
